The initial S2000 came equipped with a F20C engine block, 2.0 liter, inline-4 engine producing 240 horsepower (179 kW) at 8300 rpm and 153 ft·lbf (208 Nm) torque at 7500 rpm. Because of its high-revving nature, it is one of the few naturally aspirated engines to produces over 100 hp/L (75 kW/L). Others include the 3.6 liter V8 engine in the Ferrari 360 Modena which produces 112 hp/L (84 kW/L), and the 1.5 liter inline-4 engine offered in the Radical SR3 which produces 168 hp/L (125 kW/L). However the latter is based on the engine from the Suzuki Hayabusa.
When operated like an ordinary car at low revs, the S2000 could be driven economically. However at low rpms the torque the engine could provide was limited until the car could be pushed beyond 6000 rpm in order to engage the VTEC system. This made driving under normal conditions more strenuous than in a more conventional car since rapid and frequent gear-changes were needed to keep the engine in the "power-band".
However, under the right conditions, the engine could be revved up to a limit of 9000 rpm. Honda's VTEC variable timing system activated at 6000 rpm, giving the car additional torque and power. Keeping the car within this 6000 to 9000 rpm range was the key to speed.

Yo Matt, I assume you mean 1/4 mile times. LS Hatch claims to have run 13.7 in a stock car. I'm guessing most people are running low 14s. It will be a real good race for you Mustang.

13.7?!?! Holy Cow!! What have I been doing wrong??
Even magazine times give it 13.9

I have timeslips, so it's not a claim.

Facts on the S2000:
-Most people think they are slow because 95% are driven by idiots.
-They are difficult to drive fast, be it drag, autox, or road course.
-When driven right, they pretty much destroy autox, can pull off 13 second runs easily, and are a threat on the road course.
-The average stock S2000 dynoes around 200whp.
-They run a final drive stock that Camaros should have come with. (4.11)
- Swapping the hardtop and taking away the soft top drops 100lbs.
-If it has a body kit and stupid exhaust, it will probably be slow.
-Majority of the S2000 guys are "show" only.

You asked what have you been doing wrong. I made a suggestion. Driving plays a huge part in making the car go fast.

What's the best time you've run with all the mods you have? It's a shame I never got to see it in action...

Never ran it fully modded. When it's finished, it should be deep 12's all motor.

For a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder, it is a good claim to fame.

great car, blast to drive.....traded cars with a neighbor for a whole day and I must say that the S2K is definitely a fun car to drive, especially on backroads. Car is like an oversized go-kart, and the high redline is phenomenal. On the highway, I wasn't too impressed power wise. All in all, nice car, but I still wanted to hop back into my car.

Aside from the power/stats, probably one of the best shifters (short) in the business-IMO.
Handling characteristics speaks for itself.

Why wouldn't they put that motor into the civic and RSX-S too, is it that much more expensive to make.

the S2000 is roughly 35k out the door

Depends on where you buy it from. You can get them for around 31k out the door if you really want to.
They don't put it into the Civic and RSX for the same reason they don't put LS1's into Malibus and Impalas. That would cut into sales.

because they are FWD platforms and the s2000 is rwd...
no other tranmission bolts up to the f20c either, so thats why no one swaps f20's into civics/tegs/rsx's yet...
only thing i see an s2000 motor in is some old ae86's, or some old 280z's...

Got ya guys. I'd love to see a RWD civic with an S2000 engine. Then again I'd probably just put a SBC in it.

I saw one swapped into a first gen miata in a magazine. Almost double the original power of the stock motor and a much better powerband.

speaking of civics there was a black bubble that couldn't pull away from my s2k today but I couldn't pull away from him either. Got it up to 109 before I shut it down, then he passed me and put his hazards on
Although I am a little happy that he didn't pass me when I was trying, I think he was a bad driver. I definately heard a blow off valve over the exhaust

Just remind yourself that he possibly needed a turbocharger to keep pace with you.

very true but he must've been happy as hell. I'm putting serious thought into changing my final gear to 4.77 on the s2k
