I need to get my bike inspected and it only has low beams, no highs. Will that be a problem when i take it in (cause a fail)?

Its because of my HID kit. My bike uses a dual-filament type bulb (single bulb) and putting the hid kit in removed the high-beam filament.

Should I just take the bike apart and put a halogen back in to pass?

1) Yes you will fail inspection.
2) This is not only illegal but highly dangerous. Retrofitting an HID bulb into your stock halogen housing causes a huge amount of glare. You're essentially blinding all other motorists for the sake of looking cool. Put your stock headlight setup back, or do a proper retrofit.

Well the bike is getting sold soon so I need a fresh inspection sticker on it before it hits craigslist.

I know the hid ordeal, been doing it for a while. I actually used vinyl on the top-front of the headlight to reduce glare. This actually worked pretty well, that and turning the adjustment knob down a bit. I rode my car (miata so its pretty low) and there was little glare.

But yes, there was some glare. Now my next bike has projectors and cant wait to pull them out and put some real bi-xenon valeo units in there!!!

You can't just take halogen projectors and put HID bulbs in there. You have to get the specific projector matched to that bulb. It's been done... up to you to decide if it's worth doing.

But yes, you're going to have to either take it to a 'friendly' shop or put the stock stuff back in. I vote put the stock stuff back in... for both of our sake.

I've never had my streetbikes inspected, except to sell them. In my experience, cops don't know where to look for the sticker.

THAT BEING SAID,

Unless you're mechanically inclined, its a very good idea to have it checked. I see way too many people with bald tires, oil leaks, and loose chains, and nonworking lights.

How do you actually read that sticker? I had my inspected but it's hard to see where the expiration on it is...

Yea my buddy got busted on both his bikes for inspection last year while we where out riding. As long as the bike is legal lights tires etc insured and registered should have no problem getting a inspection.

That was a year ago... better go have it inspected. It's probably fine, but you can't risk having a major safety issue in order to save $30.

It's the two huge numbers. Just like your car one... not hard to read at all. 6 09 would be june 30th, 2009 expiration.

if u have about 2500 miles on your bike you should be due for a oil change at least. I change mine every spring or every 1,000 miles

That's the issue...my sticker only has ONE large number...and it's a 5.

i paid 150 for the 600 mile service. I'm sure I could get it cheaper somewhere else. I went to the one dealer located on castor and aramingo. I recommend not going there cause they have some really grimy people there.

1,000 miles?!?!?!?!?

Why?

keeps it fresh, doesnt really cost me anything anyway i just do it at work, only pay for the filter. It really come down to how much and how hard you ride the bike. If your racing all the time and in the high rpm range alot its a good idea to keep the oil clean and fresh, if you just cruise around and occasionally play then you dont need it done as often, you could get away with just doing it in the spring depending on your milage

Ha, yeah, if you get the oil for free then why not.
