The laptop is $199.99 ONLY after you signup for 12 months of AOL at $24/month. Its $449.99 otherwise. If you want to signup for 12 months of AOL dialup at 24/month the total cost of laptop + AOL will be $488. Here is how you MAYBE able to get it for $380. The laptop is advertised for $450 and you can get $250 off if you sign up for 12 months of AOL. Signup for 12 months of the $15/month AOL for Broad Band plan which will cost you $180 for the year. SO..$450 - $250 AOL sign up + $180 actual cost of the $15/month plan = $380

Staples also has an ok deal which IMO is 4th place. Spec wise similar to the BB laptop but I don't think $80 more is worth the extra battery life and IMO Toshiba build quality is better. Plus this Acer was initally designed for a widescreen so what you have is a standard 15" screen on an unnecessarily wide laptop. Its still a decent deal though.

Acer 3613CLi
Celeron M 1.5ghz
15" XGA screen
256mb DDR ram
40gb drive
CD-RW/DVD combo drive
Wifi
Full capacity 8 cell battery (Will give you 2.5 hours)

Plasma lcd huh... there is the difference between best buy and circuit city... we at best buy know what we are talking about ha ha ha. I worked the last two black fridays at best buy, it was insanity. My finger is keeping me from (not that i wanted to) working this one so i have no idea what the deals are. But i know we always have coffee and food outside for the customers waiting. Good luck to anyone who has to work, i know your pain well.

First, any laptop with a celeron or a sempron and 256mb of ram is Utter Crap.
You'd be better off take a dump on some paper and smearing it around. for the money and rusults you'll get.

I dont care where you buy it. (I work for Dell but I would not recommend those machines for anyone.)

Also I'm just gooin on what I read here but an "LCD Plasma"? The very nature of the 2 technologies does not allow them to be mixed. 1 is the Liquid Crystal between 2 panes of glass withe backlight. Plasma works by Heating Xenon gass to excite the Pixels.

I'm not trying to be negative, but when it comes to technolgy and computers. The old saying "You get what u paid for" certainly applies here. Be wary of what you're buy and dont expect those things to be very good. If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

Just my $.02

just pointing it out, nothing more.

It's funny that you mention you work for dell, I am about to pull the trigger on buying a 9300 inspiron with the 256 mb video card along with a few other toys. is it a good machine? as good as my inspiron 8200 which still serves me faithfully? I spec'ed the machine out to around $2100 without any coupons applied.

got any discounts or coupon codes that you can pass out? I'll be your best friend!

thanks!

sweet. my buddy just mentioned they are doing $500 off of $2k or more and add your $100 works for me.

regardless of that, I'd be more then happy to hook up a fellow TSTer with a commision/sale! you'll hear from me either Friday or next week. I'm guessing you guys will drop ship to my residence in PA, right? I can't pick up the unit right now since I'm posting from West Africa (work).

maybe you can find me with a new keyboard for my 8200 too...I'm missing the backspace key now. :D

hell, if I knew this earlier, you would have had my axim sale AND taken the credit for my entire office full of LCDs!

Dell takes Paypal now, does that also apply to you?

Yea uh-huh...there is a reason why I will never go back to the Best Buy in WG

I don't work in the TV department SOOOO SORRRRYYYYYYYY I don't know every single thing in the store.

I just finished tagging for Black Friday and already got a couple calls for people saying they will be outside by 3:00AM.

Careful there slugger...both the forum members with a ban button in OT are circuit city crew...6 years myself. I gurantee I know enough about anything in the store to talk a circle around any technophile.

Its always a store by store thing though, the Best Buy in Allentown used to tell just about every customer in 2002-2003 that the plasma would leak out of the set, and they would need to get a recharge. "no sir, you aren't buying a grill, you won't need to 'fill a tank'".

Anyway, to all those that suffer in retail, see you in January.

FWIW, I second this statement.
However, if you're simply looking for "something" that you can plug in and post on TST without spending $$, go for it. A lot of the techo-savvy people (like myself) often forget that not everyone spends as much time on the computer and really only needs a system with minimal functionality. But, if you're looking for anything performance-oriented, stay away. Same idea with cars really...not everyone in the market is looking for a car that runs a 12s 1/4 mile, simply something safe to get them from A to B.
