What do you guys think? lately I've been thinking about trading my S2k for a WRX. I used to have a 1995 3000gt vr4 with an open atmosphere hks ssq bov and now I really miss the sound of a bov, feels like something is missing everytime I let off the gas. So if you had an s2k would you keep the s2000 or go for the WRX?

it's such a tremendous decision, you need 2 threads. personally, i'd be happy with the s2000 and m3. they're rarer than a wrx.. and i bet you can afford to supercharge/turbo the s2k anyway

I've never been a fan of the s2k's look, so i'd say get the wrx.
avoid 2002 WRXs, some on here may disagree with me but the trannys are crap.

I vote WRX, but i'm partial, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
With the Scoob you'll get practicality and versatility, things you lack in the S2K. The S2K is more of a drivers car on the street, but you can go out in the snow/mud in a WRX.
As for the 2002 model year? The transmission is weak, and the gears were changed in MY03 to have thicker teeth to reduce trans warranty claims. BUT from what I have read/heard, stock 02s tend to dyno around 10hp more than stock 03s.

s2k hands down
its a less popular car, but will take the twisties amazing when modded right...yeah you have to know what your doing to make one nice. im an open book on the s2000 topic. mods are more expensive than the wrx.
only plus to a wrx is you get awd turbo, and its cheaper to make one go faster...

Why not a 99 vr-4 spyder? I used to own a vr-4 and I loved it.

What is this?

According to this they stopped making them in 97. Convertibles = heavier
VR-4 is heavy enough as is. Get a 1g! j/k No but seriously go with AWD, one you do it you won't want to go back to FWD.

I haven't considered many cars except AWD since gettin my WRX.
Well....a few other cars are always in teh back of my mind.
But Sandra is right, AWD is the way to go.

Let me get this straight: You are thinking about trading your s2000 for a WRX because you miss the sound of the bov? Is it me or is that the silliest reason to get a WRX? Do not take this the wrong way, I love my WRX, it is a great all around car, but I wouldn't switch cars just to get the bov sound back.

I didn't really like spyder 3000's in the years they were available (2nd gen) because of the long trunk in the back. I did however really like the 99 vr4 back when I had my 95 vr4. Its just twin turbo breaks down a lot and I always beat the crap out of my cars.
When I picked up my s2k I was really thinking hard about both that and the wrx. Now that I see we are suppose to have 10 inches of snow on thursday I realize that maybe I should've gotten a wrx lol. I don't mind driving the M3 in the snow but when it hits over like 5 inches even the blizzaks don't really help uphill.
How dependable are wrx's? I see some 03's for like 14k but with 80k-ish miles on them.

yea the BOV sound is a silly reason to consider a car, especially if it's the only reason.. but since you're talking about the weather and all i guess i'd tell you to go for a WRX, since 2 driving wheels are always half as good as 4.

I was trying to tell you that when I researched the VR-4 Spyders there is NO SUCH THING in the year 99'. In 1999 that was the last year of the 3000GT period. 1997 was the last year for the 3000GT as a convertible.

Go buy a leftover crossfire, they're all dirt cheap compared to sticker (~24K for a coupe, ~28K for a roadster, ~32K for the srt6, vs 35K, 39K, 47K). Someone on my other forum just paid $23,500 for one of the two leftover 2004's at Reedman's in July (and to think it is supposed to be worth 22K after 39 months, HAH).

M3 is already RWD, might as well have an AWD and a RWD.

I know, 2nd gen, 99 being 3rd gen.
99 was the last US year, 01 or 02 was the last year worldwide :)

Now AWD would be a reason to switch, there are plenty snow friendly cars out there. My WRX has been dependable except for when I spun a bearing at the track (at over 90k miles). The tranny has been fine all along. I would be wary of any car that seemed too cheap. There are modded, abused, unmodded, now for sale WRX's out there, so be careful, they may not be reliable any longer. The '02 tranny issue seemed to fade away fairly fast. It may have been more hype than reality even from the outset. The ABS issue however has more substance behind it, and there is a "re-calibration" available from Subaru.
I also hear plenty of good things about the Forrester XT (2.5 turbo) and it would be less likely to have been beaten to death.
