ok, so on a dsm, or any car for that matter, what is the safe way to dump the wastegate gas. Obviously with an external gate you want an extension of some form, but what about on a dsm setup with an internal gate and a punishment style housing, something with just a small pipe on it, how far down should it run? What are the downfalls of not extending it at all?

You don't want the hot gases that are exiting to dump onto and intercooler pipes, alternator, wires and things of that nature. My buddy has an ebay style o2 dump which he bought about 3-4 years ago and as far as i know hes never had any problems based off of that. I would look at a few options for the o2 dump and see where each one dumps to. I've seen a few that dump very short and others that aren't to bad.

You need to get the exhaust gases out of the engine bay. My car dumps straight down right behind the traction bar under the transmission. About a foot of piping and two bends, easy as pie.
Dumping exhaust in the engine bay is bad news for a whole lot of reasons, plus you will lose a ****ton of power because the turbo is going to suck that crap back up.

wait, why is it called an o2 dump? its not dumping oxygen

Because it's on the O2 HOUSING on a dsm!
As long as it's not dumping on anything, you are fine. But yeah, the farther away from the engine bay, the better for performance as it won't heat things up!

yes, technically on a dsm it dumps from the o2 housing, instead or running it back into the normal exhaust housing.

o2 dumps are the new cool thing on evos. i havent seen too much proof they make more hp than a good exhaust, and even then the gains dont seem to be worth it for the amount of noise. maybe im just getting old?
if youre going to do it, just like others have said dont dump it in the engine bay

Your SRT-4 has one too. :-p
O2 dump is basically just the dump for the internal wastegate. Why it's named that I'm not really sure though.

It called an o2 housing because the oxygen sensor is in the housing.

i dont know about making more power, but they deffinately help to stop boost creep, especially when using the evo 16g turbo.

huh... i didn't think they could squeeze an oxygen tank in there

along with reducing boost creep, they help you make a bit more power because all that extra gas that would normally have to go into the dp creating alot of turbulance and increasing backpressure now just gets blown all over mother natures face. i had one of these on my 14b and at 14psi it sounded like poop but it worked.

I know that, doesn't mean I understand the logic behind it though lol.
