So many people think its just cars going in circles, (i was one of them) until i started to realize, NASCAR is awesome. Not only do strategies play a major factor, but also draft, teams, drivers, spotters, etc. Its a really fun sport if you really pay attention to whats going on and not just watch it for the accidents that happen.

With that said, any other NASCAR fans here?

I use to be really into this but now I only watch the Daytona 500, Ive been to a few race's back when it was busch in dover. it was cool. I liked to see Dale Jr win the championship this year.

i got some expectations for montoya #42 since he teamed up with DEI forming "Earnhardt Ganassi Racing" so now an experienced driver with well built engines should have something packed up for this year, but also maybe a 4 peat for jimmie johnson? i've been to poconos, dover this past year also.

Not into it at all. I get it, I know that it's hard and there is strategy, but I don't think it deserves the popularity that it has. The only race I will watch it Watkins Glen.

Yeah it would be nice to see him win this year but i dont think it will happen. He was strong at the beginning of the season but once he got to the end he did horiblle and if Johnson gets into the chase then somebody is gonna need a miracle since Johnson is so good at the last ten races

true, the problem is his team never seems to make the right adjustments for the car. he needs a better crew chief. or better crew members either or. they just do enough to be in the top 10 in all honesty. Dale Jr can't handle a tight car like his father could. I bet if he made tighter adjustments the outcome would be different for sure.

I was a big Bobby Hamilton fan, may he rest in peace. I am a Clint Bowyer fan though now. I have been to Daytona, the year Earnhardt died. Didn't see the 500 there but saw the IROC, trucks and busch race that year. What a beautiful track. Hopefully they can keep their fans coming out. I will admit I have lost some interest but I'm still a big fan.

Wait what u said dosent make sense that he cant drive a tight car and that they need to make his car tigher that would just mess him up but i dont think he can drive a loose car. Like him and his crew chief work well together i just thing the his crew chief dosent know what adjustments to make to the car to make it work right. But hes at a new team so we got to give him time and hey he won a race by fuel milage which jr has never ever done they would always get gas if they looked like they were gonna be short but the risked it so i do see the team changing which is great. But another thing Stillen Jr is way different then his dad in the way he races and conducts businness and he should be that way cause u dont want to be know as the son of the great he wants to make a name for himself

I'll watch the big races and the road courses, but I have completely lost interest over the past year and a half. I used to be able to name every driver, team, sponsor, even crew chiefs... I only watched probably 10 NASCAR races last season (between NSCS, NNS, NCTS). I didn't even go to the Lowe's races which I can hear if I open my dorm window.

I just got sick of the commercials every 3 laps, the dumb commentators that say the same exact thing every week because they think they're informing the viewers, etc - mostly stuff that is controlled by the broadcasts and NASCAR execs. I'm still a big Jeff Gordon fan (and I'm excited for the new paint scheme - last time he drastically changed paint schemes, he won a championship). And I still enjoy watching the racing. I'm just sick of the commercialism of it all, I guess (which now that I think of it, is the foundation of a capitalist market, but whatever).

They need more road courses. Or at least a road course in the Chase. You can't have a well-rounded playoff system if you don't test all abilities, in my opinion...

namdoogwerdna, it's soooo much better in person.

I used to like watching nascar but now I think its boring especially last year kyle busch wins half of the season then the chase jimmie johnson wins everything and the championship. it just puts me to sleep, but I do like watching the daytona 500 thats probably the best event on the schedule and I miss the old style cars I hate that car of tommorow I think its the ugiliest thing they ever broought into nascar.is it to improve safety after the dale earnhardt tradedy besides the soft wall, yes indeed but im sorry im not sold on that car at all. at least the nationwide series still runs the old style cars at least I was reading that they were going to the CoT thanx god they didnt what a mistake that woulda been at least chevy should switch over to the impala for that series since the monte carlo is no longer in production thats my 0.02 cents on NASCAR

and also I hope Dale Jr wins the championship this year he's long overdue for one he's on a better team now more like a dream team my god jeff gordon, jimmie johnson and now mark martin you cant go wrong with the Hendricks

im a big dale sr fan and when jr went to hendrix i lost all respect for him, cant stand gordon or johnson. im more for carl edwards now. i am prlly going to daytona this year but i would really love to go to either bristol or dega. i was also a davey allison fan(old school) actually got to meet him and when he got into that really bad wreck at pocono i sent him a get well card(i was like 8) meet him the next time he was at pocono and my mom said something about the card i sent him and he was really surprised needless to say i got invited to go to the race that weekend with pit passes and got to talk to robert yates and ernie irvan as well. really nice guys nd got a whole bunch of cool stuff including one of the tires off of daveys car from that race.

i'll agree with you on that i aint much of a gordon or johnson fan but the jr move to hendrick was suprising to me. I would have thought he would at least go to RCR. I mean he had to do what he had to do Im still a fan. he had a bad relationship with teresa earnhardt at dei. yea I hate the fact he left too but man that team suxs now

Definetly go to Bristol. I have been to the dragstrip a few times which is directly next to the NASCAR track and it's amazing with it being so loud in there. My uncle went there not too long ago and it was well worth it .

NASCAR PLEDGE

10. I will frequent message board dedicated to my favorite driver. I will make life long friends on these websites. It will become a major part of my daily routine. Ever spare minute I have will be spent on these boards talking...even sometimes arguing. I will be con the computer so much my family will call me things like, obsessed and addicted. I will get a lot of useful information from these sites and I will bookmark them on my favorites list. If Im true, I will make one my homepage. This is my pledge as a NASCAR fan. May I never waver in my loyalty.

9. I will do everything humanly possible to get a job with NASCAR. If I am a true fan, I will go to college and take mass communications to be a PR rep or a motorsports journalist. Ill take engineering or advanced auto mechanics to be part of the team. I will sned my resume to NASCAR at least once a month. If worse come to worse, I will try to become the next Miss Nextel.

8. I will gladly put myself through hell to go to a NASCAR race. I will spend my lifes savings on tickets and pit passes. I will drive 12 hours straight to get to the track. I will either spend outrageous amounts of money on a hotel room or I will sleep in the mud, using a rock as a pillow. I will wake up at 4am to be sure Im at the track as early as possible. I will sit in traffic for 8 hours trying to get to the track. I will park three hours away and walk to the track in the hot sun. I will fight crowds with pleasure. I will spend $18 on a hotdog and $20 on a soda. I will sit in crappy seats that only allow a partial view of the backstretch. I will spend $80 to rent a scanner to listen to my favorite drivers conversation. I will stay until the end of the race, then fight the crowds and the traffic again. I will drive back home without sleeping and tell everyone who will listen that it was the best weekend of my life.

7. I will do everything I can to meet my favorite driver, but as a true fan, I will never be an autograph hound, or one of the bag people. If the opportunity arises I will take full advantage of it, but I will NOT chase my favorite driver around through the garage area, screaming his name and making a fool out of myself in front of 100,000 fans.

6. I will know everything about racing. I may not know who the current president is, or what day it is, but I will be able to expound at great lengths on subjects such as: tight, loose, camber, toe-in, toe-out, stickers, scuffs, racing grooves, restrictor plates, wedge, air pressure, aerodynamics, etc.

5. I will hat at least one driver in the field (or really dislike them). This driver will usually be someone who has done an injustice to MY driver. This may change from week to week, or lap to lap. On a really bad day, I will hate all of the other drivers except for MY driver.

4. I will love Bristol like it was my home, even if I havent been there. Every year I will try to get tickets to the Bristol night race. I will call the offices every day until they tell me to stop or they will get at restraining order. I will make it my mission in life to go to this race at least once in my lifetime. If worse comes to worse, I will see one of my children, or a kidney, on ebay to raise the money to buy tickets off a scalper. I will do this just so I can rub it in to other fans faces that I have been to the Bristol night race.

3. I will own at least one item bearing my favorite drivers name and sponsor. If I a truely loyal, I will go and spend my hard earned money on many pieces of memorabilia. I will go out and spend $250 on a diecast, even if it means my family has to eat peanut butter sandwiches all week long. I will search the world over for cardboard stand-ups of my favorite driver. I will own shirts, hats, socks, bed clothes, glasses, coffee tins, collectors cards, signs, flags, etc. I will put myself in debt for these items and never bat an eyelash(reserving the right to complain about the price...it is my money, you know?).

2. I will complain heartily about the sport, but will also be the first person to defend it. I will complain about the sanctioning body, the rules, the race tracks, etc, until I am blue in the face, but DO NOT let me hear another person bash my sport of choice. I will tell them that NASCAR is the best sport ever and give them at least 25 reasons why.

1. Above all else, I pledge to be a loyal fan to my chosen driver. I will rejoice and celebrate when my driver wins. I will lay blame on every other driver in the field if my driver spins out on the first lap. My driver can do no wrong. He is perfect in every sense of the word. I will tell this to everyone I know and I will actually believe it. I will stand up for my driver if another drivers fan says something off-color about him. If necessary(especially if beer is involved), I will come to blows for my driver. Even if my favorite driver is no longer racing, I will make it clear that is my favorite driver of all time. I will know everyone on his team...from the crew chief to the PR rep. I will talk about him so much people will tell me to shut up. Also, I will never lose faith in my drivers abilities. If he has finished 30th or worse in all the races in the past two years, I will have faith that my driver will win next week. My loyalty is strong and never shall change my favorite driver. He is the best.

I forget who in their family has all the money and connections, but when you have that you can go anywhere. A little bit of talent and money and you can go anywhere in racing unlike any other sport unfortunately. If you have the best equipment money can buy and don't do very well, well there is an obvious problem there. lol. To me its ridiculous, but what are you going to do? I wish him the best of luck, I just wish it was me cause i'm pretty damn sure i can match what he did with the equipment he had (Jealous much? lol).

Don't be comparing the rolex 24 to nascar. 2 completely different styles of racing right there :-p. Who knows how he will do though. I love seeing the cup drivers get into them cars. It tests how good they really are!

In NASCAR it's unofrtunately like that now. Just look at those multicar teams like Hendrick, Roush, who all have money and always seem to have the edge. Those seem to always be the dominant ones. I like going to Grandview Speedway but have not been there in like 8 years. It was fun when I went.

Yeah its unfortunate. I love it when the smaller teams beat the big boys though at short tracks and when the road course experts come in and do well on the road courses. Makes for a good race!

You should go back to Grandview if u haven't been there in 8 years! They put a good show on. This year neets is hosting 8 enduro races there. You should check it out an maybe even build a car! Its a lot of fun! If ya need anymore information go to Neets Racing (http://neetsracing.com)

I'm sorry but I thought the Chase format was good when it first came out but now I'm not so sure I like it. My dad and I have lost some interest in it because Johnson keeps winning all the time it seems like. Out of the past 4 championships he has one, who knows if he would of won them if there was no chase. I think that just only having 12 cars being able to win it is getting old. They should change it so everyone still has a chance.

angdefeo
11-23-2009, 11:13 AM
I am a new fan of Nascar. And after paying attention and watching many races for the past 2 seasons, I can say that i didnt care about the races this past weekend. Jimmy Johnson's constant winning has made it boring to watch.

I read an article somewhere, i think on my Sprint phone's Nascar application, that going into the Arizona race this year, Tony Stewart would have been in first place if they were still racing under the old format before the chase format started.

2 questions for everyone about things that i dont understand.
-1. Could Jommy Johnson's team be cheating? I find it hard to think that his teams ability to set up the car makes him so much faster than his Hendrick's teammates and other teams using Hendrick's motors.

-2. I remember that about 2 seaesons ago, Toyota was on a winning streak and Nascar changed the rules which ended up slowing down the Toyota cars. Why and what did Nascar change in order to affect just the Toyota cars?

HickRocket1258
11-23-2009, 11:42 AM
Ang, I remember the whole thing with Toyota. I don't remember what the difference was but apparently it was a big enough advantage for Toyota that they had to change whatever it was they changed.

I don't think they are cheating, when you have crazy funds from an owner such as Hendrick, you tend to get more money funded towards your program. As long as teams like those are around, the small team owners will never have a chance unless at a restrictor plate track. I feel bad because I'm always pulling for some of those small teams to have a good weekend and you are always seeing them in the back of the field. It's a good format to make it interesting towards the end, but then when things happen like they did this year, it doesn't make it quite as interesting.
