so i got home and my dad is bitching at me saying i haven't payed for a parking ticket which supposedly i got 12/19/08. i was like i haven't gotten no parking ticket recently, and if i did. i would of payed it lol. anyways i did some research and the license plate for which the ticket is for is for my old suzuki swift gt which i sold 2 years ago but was under my dads name and i owned it/drove it so he has a right to be pissed.

the red one.

now im confused becasue i have the license plate right next to me but yet the paper i got in the mail says issue date 12/19/08.

on the top it says "our records indicate that you have neglected to make full payment or properly contest the parking ticket(s) described below within the time limit prescribed by law. because this ticket was not resolved in a timely manner, penalties have been added to the original fine amount. failure to respond to this notice within 15 calender days from the date of this notice, by either paying in full the amount due shown below or by contesting this ticket, will result in additional penalties."

someone please explain this to me. i had it in my room ever since i sold the red car, and never let any of my friends borrow it to drive any car or anything. i dont even remember parking this car in center city when i owned it and if i did and got a ticket back then, i would of payed it. i would never leave it alone for more than 5 mins anyways since it was my 1st car and didnt want nobody to touch it.

what should i do? the ticket is only $61 and i dont mind paying it if it was my fault, but i didnt even have the car when the ticket was supposively issued. can this be fake? this came from the city of philadelphia, not traffic court, police district or something else. also in the paper it does not mention the street name or where i was parked, it only comes up on the website listed on the paper www.philapark.org. the page seems legit, but something seems wrong like i mentioned, the car was sold 2 years ago and i have the license plate.

there should be a court phone number on the ticket somewhere, If not get in contact with the state and ask them.

hmmm if it was issued 12/19 and they give u 30-45 days to pay it that would put you right around this time period....i dont think they would have added what 20 dollars in additional fees in a week or two tops?

sounds easy to me... call the philly parking authority and get them to connect you to someone who knows what the F is going on. tell them what you told us in your first post. if you didn't do it and you have proof, then you shouldn't have to pay it. it's not the amount of the ticket, it's the idea that you're paying for something you didn't do.

this happened to my mom a LONG time ago...got a ticket from the city on a day she wasn't anywhere near downtown. I think she called and got it straightened out.

maybe they just send random ones out hoping people are dumb enough to pay?

It sounds like they probably put down someone elses tag # incorrectly. Does it list anything about the make/model/color of the vehicle?

Use this link:
http://www.philapark.org/faq.aspx

And it's funny, I just got finished watching Parking Wars on A&E .. it's about the Philly Parking Authority for those who don't know.

So the car was sold 2 years ago and the plate hasn't been on anything? If so your plate number got stolen guy I work with is going threw this right now. He has recieved 5 tickets from philly and doesn't drive in philly and neither does a vw rabbit come up on any of the tickets. Good luck with it you will need to straighten that out at the address they gave you.

theres no make/model/year/color on it. its not a ticket, "just a notice of violation" i saw that faq but none of them answer my questions.

does anyone see another phone number on that website i can call besides 888-591-3636 which is only an automated machine? im gonna go dwon there tomorrow cause theres an address on the notice that says if you want to pay in person go there.

You should turn in your plates to the dmv when you don't need them anymore. I know I have a few lying around but I brought back my most recent ones. Saves the hassle of something like this happening.

if it isnt a big deal and the ticket isnt much, the best thing to do sometimes is just to pay it and be done

Call Philadelphia get this straightened out. DO NOT CALL THE NUMBER on the ticket. This sounds like a scam to me.

The address they listed to send the payment to IS the City of Philadelphia. I checked. No scam. At least in that regard.
