View Full Version : A question for all of the 240sx owners on the site

Are you genuinely a 240sx enthusiast or are you a bandwagoner? How long have you owned your 240? Or when did you get your first 240? And how do you determine who is a bandwagoner? Me personally, I dont know about myself. I wouldn't really consider myself a band wagoner. I've owned 240's since I was 17, I'm almost 21 now, and this is my 4th 240. I've had an 89 SOHC hatch, an 89 sr20 coupe, a 95 base model, and now my 93. What about you? Which are you and why?

I've had seven. two s13 hatches, two s13 coupes, two zenkis and a lone kouki.

started with them in 2005 right after high school when i wasn't poor anymore.

I am guilty of financially benefiting from the bandwagon, but i got into the "scene" through friends back then.

I have had only one 240 but its been forever. I can remember being down on del ave when this kid showed me his red 240 that he had just put in an sr20. ANy one to guess this kids name " Matt " , yes Matt from Import Inttlegance..... I wish i could find pics of that night, my red coupe with white wheels :)

as for being on the bandwagon , na....

Dann, do you think a bandwagon jumper would ever admit it?

No buts thats why I also asked how long have you had your 240 or when did you get your first one.

i bought mine in '04, before any of the more recent drift hype as i stated in the other 240 post. not super OG, but also not bandwagon. i never went through lots of them, i've always had the one i have. it's my daily drivers that i've changed... one of which was an automatic '92 S13. i never put any money into that one though.

To me it shouldnt matter how long you've had a certian car or how long you've been "in the scene". What matters is HOW your in the scene and whether or not you built/building a clean car or actually use it. The band wagon jumpers and trendies will be gone soon dont worry. Be thankfull for them though because when they are gone you can all buy their parts for cheap.

FazdaGt
01-18-2009, 08:08 PM
I agree with you completely there...

I've always bought, driven, and modded my 240's to my liking for daily use. So I guess technically I've never really been into the scene of 240's, just the car itself.

Man, scene is a terrible word. I'm embarrassed I even used it.

I'm not a "Drifter" by any means, I just enjoy the look and feel of the cars a lot...every time I sell one I find myself searching for another soon therafter.

Ive had mines since about 2002-03. I just always loved the look of em. They are becoming the new civic though.

They are becoming the new civic though.

I don't think its possible for them to become the new civic. One not enough were made and two most have been killed in a tragic drifting accident:supz:

I don't remember exactly how I was introduced to a 240SX all I know is when I saw one, I fell in love with the coupe. This was long before I even knew what drifting was. If I remember right, it was '05 or '06 when I learned wat drifting was, if it was even that long ago ad no, it wasn't because of The Faast and the Furious .

I've never drifted my car. I didn't buy it to drift, I bought it because I love it. I love the pop up headlights and the flat rear end and the fact that I can do almost anything I want with it.

As CleanNeon said, the bandwagon jumpers are not going to raise their hand to promote that they bought a 240 because it's the "cool" thing to do.

OMGJACKI, you are such a 240 rookie and i say that in the nicest way..... Having a a 240 far from a love, it more like ike and tina tuner.... Once you own a 240 for a good amount of time you will develop such a love hate relationship :)

omgjacki
01-18-2009, 10:52 PM
Well when I first saw them they were just another car, but it was my favorite. I didn't know aything about them. A friend of mine bought one and I was driving it everywhere. I learned about their issues real fast. Before I had my own I had driven a few, and knew many people that had them. It stil didn;t change my opinion.

I already have a love/hate relationship with this thing. I hate it when it breaks down in the middle of 611 in 5* weather. I hate it everytime I'm near the passanger side ad I catch a glimpse of that eyesore of a quarter panel. Or when I'm parallel parking and there's a line of powersteering fluid following my car into the parking spot.

It still puts a smile on my face though.

i fell in love with my dads 97 240 ever since i first drove it and knew nothing about 240's then i winded up buyin it,did donuts, started to learn to slide it,made it faster, then sold it like a idiot and kickin myself in the ass everysingle day for selling it dirt cheap, but since then ive owned 7 240's and im still lookin for that perfect kouki again. never a bandwagon jumper though. i just liked to be diffrent and not owning a me 2 car although i have a me 2 mustang right now but i got it myway unlike all the others with the same ol cobra r rims and cowl hoods

Well I got into rx7's in 02-03. Kinda liked the s13 coupe around the same time. Dealt with rx7's for 4 years, finally decided to transfer to something new. Insert s13. Picked up a 90 hatch in 07. I'm currently at four 240's, owning three right now. I was never into drifting, I just transitioned to them since they were similar to fc's in terms of comfortness and driveability.

I had a fwd v6 that was reliable but no fun to drive and while looking for a dsm to work on I found out about 240's and mr2's. I found a 240 before I found an mr2 so I picked it up and used its incredible aftermarket support to do what I wanted with it. I wanted the 240 because it was light, rwd, cheap, and it has almost unlimited possabilities. Think about it, you can have a na ka, ka-t, ca, sr, rb, 180, 240, silvia, s13, s14, s15, skyline, drift, drag, autocross, etc how many cars can excel in so many different ways without breaking the bank?

I'm a straight bandwagon'er. I just like the idea of what 240s represent: dinosaurs. Old, probably gay, potentially powerful, and cool as hell when done right (think raptors, not pussy brontosaurusses). Plus all those multi-colored body panels act as camoflouge. Really, I get it.

Ive had my 240 for a year. Its my first one. I bought it because its what I wanted, not because its the stereotypical drift car. I just wanted a RWD japanese car, and this one fit my needs the best and was in my pricerange. Its also a great platform for what I'd like to do with a car (mean street car, kinda sleeperish). Tons of motor options, rear seats, relatively light weight, and good gas mileage... It meets all my needs in a car without breaking the bank.

I got my 240 back in march I think...and I'll admit, I'm half bandwagoner. I first really "loved it" back when I played NFS:Underground and I used it as my starting car. Then I forgot about them, then when F&F:TD came out I was like oh yay drifting, then I really started to look into drifting and it's definitely a motorsport I'm learning to love...and after looking around I found the 240 for a great price.

Then I finally drove it, and realized that it's just such a drivers car. Plus it's really easy to work on, which is great for my newbness at car modifying...but right now I just wanna get it to be a fun street car/drifer/semi-sleeper.

i wouldnt say im a bandwagoner but i came into the 240 scean after drifting had made its presance known. i started looking into the 240 in O4. i loved the way the car looked. i learned about drifting in O6. i have had 3 240's. 1 coupe taken out by a hit and run lady with no lincense or insurance. i also had an 89 sohc hatch. and my new love/hate girl a 93 hatch. do i want 2 try drifting yes is that y i got my car no. i want to keep my 240 or a 240 for ever they will always be my fav car.

I've had a vast erray of fun cars RX-7's, EVO, 350Z, etc. and i would buy the "right" 240 in a second if I found it. B/C I'm a fan of the car if nothing else.

I wouldnt call myself a bandwagon guy either.
Ive had 3 240s and Im only 18.
a fully loaded (power sunroof, mudflaps, i mean everythingggg) Coupe 93 now belongs to LJ
a totally base coupe 91 totalled :'(
and a base 92 hatch which i have now :)
I gotta say i was never rly a fan of the hatches cuz i loved the coupe but i still really love my hatch
Ive worked on all of them myself, swapped KA-KA, auto-manual...
I just love them
I couldnt imagine driving a FWD car as MY car
it would suck... I think i would die a little inside
And yeh i love drifting, but I they have so much more potential than that so i hate when ppl automatically think 240= drifting

im on my third s13, all of them dohc in the beginning, my current one sr powered, i dont consider myself a bandwagoner, i have been in love with them since i drove my first one home from north carolina....yea i got into it around 03, when the "drift craze" emerged, but to me its more then that, its a joy of building something and wanting to work on it after working a 13 hour day, its the joy of driving it, regardless of problems

And my dream even before Fast and Furious the first one, was a 240 with a skyline motor lol. well i hate them with a passion. but i love them for there all around wow factor. i owned my first one back in 01-02 it was a two tone coupe with about 60 something thousand miles on it. i bought a silvia front end color match to the car and a set of 15" watanabe wheels. hacked the springs then purchase a set of sport line drop springs i think. i did a home made turbo kit with a starion intercooler a ford turbo coupe turbo and a safc I for fuel managment. man was it fun. i sold it for a good profit back in 04. bought several afterwards but none ever gave me the satisfaction my og s13 gave me.

i dont own a 240 but i figured i would give my .02 anyway. ive always had a thing for 240s when my friend josh got his first one a s13 fastback. i had no idea what a 240 was then, this was like 04/05 maybe. yea sad i know. he introduced me to them and ever since then ive always liked em and wanted one. i was almost going to buy one before i sold my teg and then decided to get a newer car. ill probably be looking at them again once my car sells, so you could say i hopped on the bandwagon. but ill end up stayin in the honda game.

i think that a lot of people jumped on the bandwagon and its sad since it is a pretty cool car with a ton of potential for fun especially with boost :supz:. and ive meet enough people to have realized there is actually a 240 bandwagon to get on.

I have lost count of how many I have owned I think im up to six or seven I have had one since I was 17 im now 27. I have had a few other cars but nothing like the love of a 240. I remember when getting parts was almost impossible and not to many did an engine swap let alone an rb cause mounts you used to have to custom order and cost about a grand. I do like it now that I can get tons of parts for my car but now I see way to many of them and it pains me in the heart just a little bit to see some bandwagoners take them and basically destroy a beautiful car and not really care.

i fell inlove with 240s when my boy gave me a ride in his freshly swapped sr20 during high school in 02 and esp. during street races in philly over the weekends. when i had money finally coming in i bought 2 hatches from a coworker for $800 in 05. I ended up keeping one and selling the other to fund my project. Now i'm KA-T with help from anthony(structure240), will(jdmwill), my honda friends, and my boy ruben. i love my car!

Majority of my friends own 240s about 10+ Usually hit up drift events in wv. I'm always working on either my car or helping a buddy with their car.
I've owned my s14 for 4years now and had another s14 for 2years before, got hit and sold off. I doubt I will ever sell my current s14, I've done way too much work to it.

I wouldnt say its my favorite nissan but sooo fun to drive and cheap on parts, im sure all have it for a long time until a z32 or 280z project car tells me to buy it, id also love to own a kouki one day or maybe just do a s15 front end on mine.

I can honestly say I am in a love/hate relationship with my car. I've had it on craigslist, here, zilvia and 240sxforums for sale. Unfortunately I've been made fun of for trying to sell my car by everyone. Not just friends as jokes, like actually people calling me and harassing me for trying to sell a 240SX because, to them, the 240SX is worthless. It really f**ked me up mentally. right now I'm having a shop trying to fix the wiring issues...

I've had my car since September 28 of 2006. So much mental stress. I don't know what got me into the car. Had to take out the alarm and the stereo wires. The #1 absolutely worst thing I definitely HAD to replace on my car was my 18" Falken tires. They all popped so I said f*** them and I traded for 16" FWD offset and never had a tire problem. Next was the battery and then the starter.

Performance: I chose to replace the struts and springs, put better tires on factory 5-spoke rims, and adjustable toe links.

The interior body harness was replaced and now a shop is trying to figure out why the gauge cluster, dome light and automatic seat belts aren't working properly. Oh, and its hit in the front, which doesn't bother me.

I'm not a fan of coupes, but I don't hate them. I just really like how smooth the hatch looks compared to the boxy coupe. I'm all for the factory look so I would never do a body kit, but I do eventually want an S15 front end. I'm also never-ever doing an engine swap. Undecided on KA-T. Definitely doing a manual swap and getting the rack & pinion replaced too. haha! I would love to have an S14 kouki but only as the DD bippu style car. the S13 is the choice of performance for me.

*sighs* love/hate relationship. Everyone hates my car. I love him. He's my brother.

i wouldnt call myself a bandwagon jumper my buddy came across one and picked it up and i drove it a couple times and loved them everysince then never really new much about them beside them being different looking. Then just this month my buddy came across one with 94,500 miles on it with what is said to be rod knock but story short i ended up buying it off of him for 800 bucks which apparently is a great deal. Ive always been a honda guy but ive grown tired of every young kid getting one and ricing them out and ive noticed that the nissan crowd is usually a bit more mature and seem to be older people. Hopefully my first adventure at a 240 is a good one.

Everything kinda fell in place my normal buddies i hang out with all have 240s. Ones on here 240vert,one has a clean hatchback, the other is building up a kat, anther has a sr and the final kid i knew had a 502hp pig nose sr and no is possibly doing a rb swap. so im defintly liking the diverese crowd my little town has.

I got my 240 like 3 months ago. But I've wanted one for about 2 years. I love the look of the car. And the fact that like they look amazing with no stupid body kit and what not. And its RWD...I love the lights. And its pretty small. Only thing that makes me really depressed is that one day we will all have to move on..because there was only 25x,xxx 240's produced from 89-98...thats NOT alot at all..It makes me depressed because so many people wreck them and their like alright lets part it out and then get another..No they should attempt to fix that, even if there would be alot of work, it'll be worth it. :(

Thats pretty funny you moderate a honda fourm which one is it by the way. And i get your point theres not as many around. Everything kinda fell in place my normal buddies i hang out with all have 240s. Ones on here 240vert,one has a clean hatchback, the other is building up a kat, anther has a sr and the final kid i knew had a 502hp pig nose sr and no is possibly doing a rb swap. so im defintly liking the diverese crowd my little town has.

i'll play along. i'm on my 4th s13. all hatches and i got my first in 05. it was a 90 in cherry red metallic. i sold that car for money plus another s13 that sat for 3 years. i got that one running and sold it for $1k. i then took the money from selling both of those s13s and got an sr swapped 93 se, but the 93 had high miles on the chassis and turned out to have the worst frame rot ever. so i bought a $300 90 shell and i'm in the process of swapping everything over. i wouldn't say i jumped on the bandwagon, i've been around these cars since highschool (about age 16) when my friend had a 92 se coupe, then shortly after my younger brother bought a 90 coupe when he was 14. before owning s13s at all i purchased my clean fc at age 18 which i still have.

i've owned one 240, but was into drifting before i got it. i've dailied it since highschool and am selling soon because of money probs and im going into my 4th year of college.

a bandwagoner is someone who buys the car to fit in, become cool etc etc, but stays that way not bothering to research the car or plan on improving it for a purpose, only to have it cause everyone else does.

i think in the beginning dam near everyone is some type of bandwagoner, because they have to see a car that is like by some people or croud but then loves the car for its capabilities, not its coolness factor

i liked the 240 because my boy adam had one when i was 15 and i loved the styling. he was the only one in the area to have one. i didn't want a civic or a beat ass probe since that is what's in style. i wanted a 240sx since i was 15. then i got mine off of ebay 3 years ago. been building it ever since

I don't know where the whole "everybody has a 240" thing is coming from, because I never see them on the street and out of every 150+ car meet there's maybe like 4 240's there at one time, including mine and my friend's. I have to cross the bridge and go to philly 240 meets, and even then there's like 20 cars and thats it.

But regardless of that, my friend was fanatical about 240's like 5 years ago, and he looked for one for 8 months before he finally bought it. I had a Chevy S10 that I was working on at the time. I loved that his s13 was RWD, light, manual and had endless potential. He ended up doing a lot of work to it, and the car ended up growing on me. I helped him work on it whenever he was putting new stuff on, and I ended up learning a lot about the car. I eventually wanted one but I also couldn't find one in good condition. He ended up selling that car to me, and he bought another hatch with a silvia conversion. Now we both have nice SR swapped hatchbacks to cruise around in and work on. I've been doing a lot more work to it since I've had it, and I will be doing a lot more work in the future.

It's not about being cool or fitting in at all. Everybody I know who has a 240 just does their own thing and doesn't give a damn what people think. Call me a bandwagoner, that's cool... the more haters, the better.

I't's a rare 240 owner that does their own thing. They really all do the same things if you really stop to think about it. Buy it, swap it, claim to drift it lol.

I want a third one but I plan on doing the same thing I did with the other ones. Keep it stock.

Oh and you guys need to stop talking about age. You were freshmen when I graduated lol.

i just bought my 240 about a month ago, but it took me a while to save up the money. it all started when my friend bought his first s14 se about 3 years ago. if it wasnt for him, i wouldnt have known what a 240sx was. i guess you could say im on the bandwagon considering i bought my 240 so late in the game. i catch the **** from a lot of people saying how im "jumping on the 240sx bandwagon"...but you know...whats wrong with that? lol. you see people building civics all the time and no one really says they are "jumping on the civic bandwagon".

I got my 240 a little over 2 years ago . The reason I got mine was because of the shady low lives that invaded the honda scene and turned it into sh*t. I always liked the 240 for it's body lines and really like the way the interior is set up.

Let's do this, how many of you guys build real cars and how many build puss cars. How many do cool stuff how many hard park. Let's be real tons of people are gonna build the same car, some will build garbage and seldom actually build an awesome car.

No not at all, I don't care what you own, I just think its funny how all theese people say they are og's the only og's are 30 year old dudes in japan. Everyone built their cars after someone else. I hate the whole I am cooler cause I was before the bandwagon, but I built my car in 2003 its just lame.

I just picked up my first 240sx. Its a 92 coupe. stock, automatic. I bought it saturday. Straight clean body and interior. 125000 miles. Driven by a girl. I paid 330 bucks including tax and tags and fixing it. I guess ill see where i go from here with it but let me tell you.. I never had so much fun driving my bagged s10 or my old civic or my lifted jeep or my old jetta. I had all these cars but nothing compares.
