View Full Version : Whats your next car?
NOPSTNS

recently ive been thinking about what my next car will be after the rx8 and ive seen my taste in cars really change. So i was wondering what other peoples next car will be. we all think about it so i wanna see some ideas.
jokes aside, realistically, what are you planning on buying next and for what reasons?

I'd really like to get a truck, just to keep the miles down on the DSM, and for more practical reasons. Preferrably something older, and carb'd. Thinking about swapping a 350 into a s10 that my buddy had lying around.
Project wise, I'd really like to get a Miata will some type of v-8 in, mostly for autocross and limited summertime street use. And the only way I'd get rid of the DSM would be to pick up a clean 2G Talon or GVR4, so that's doubtful.
What are you thinkin' about, NOSTOPNS?
I'll never sell my STi, but I'll probably add a C5 Z06 to the fleet in the future.

Im thinkin i'll eventualy wind up with 2 cars. One car as a fun performance car, and one car as a practical DD. Right now, my STi is both, but it will probly become the former. My next car will probly be a cheap reliable, yet sort of nice car to use as a DD. Then for my next performance car, well alot depends on my financial situation. As for my sti, i may not sell it at all, ever. But for my next performance car, if im in a good situation id like to get (all used) one of these...BMW E92 M3, Lotus Esprit V8, Porsche 996 turbo, Nissan 370 Z, others in that range.
As for the DD, im thinkin like an 03-07 Accord 4cyl, a Nissan Altima, Jetta, used lexus, etc. something kinda nice, but cheap/ practical.

i have 3 in mind. im leaning toward a new mustang. ive always been a ford guy and just like the way they look over most other new cars. i was thinking new challenger, but im still undecided about that one. but its pretty much between the stang or an SRT8 grand cherokee. i love the SRT and a decent 06 or 07 should be in my price range by the time im actually ready to buy. now to the third...............if a decent turbo diesel f250 shows up at the right price im jumping right on it. i want something that i can throw stacks on SOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAD!!!!!

Jeep wrangler soon for a DD
BMW 5-series later down the line for a DD
at that point
MSM will be a weekend car
Wrangler will be built for mud duty
May buy another Miata (NA body) to build specifically for racing.

I really honestly couldn't say. I have enough interesting cars to last me for a long time as it is...
My best guess would be just another cheap nissan, either s or z chassis. Possibly another pickup.
Reason being... They are tried and true for me, I know them pretty well by now. I definatly like them, and i seem to find them stupid cheap once in a while. (probably not anymore)
Seriously though, I will have nothing new for a long time.

An FC... I need to add another somewhat unreliable car to my collection on top of my 240... That way I can minimize my chances of having no transportation...

I'm getting a cheap daily D soon. Like a 96-00 civic. But I'm not counting that.
My next big car purchase will probably be a Porsche 996 TT when I'm out of school.

When my parents house is finished soon, I would like to find an STi or an EVO, and work on that. I may keep the Ranger, and swap it for a 302. I may also decide to get rid of it and get some kind of 4x4, prefer to get a Chevy, because there are a few Chevy dealers in the DE/MD area for service, so I'll see when money starts coming in and I'm out of college. Right now, continue working on the Ranger, and thats that. I may also consider a Wrangler, since there are a few good places to go mudding, nothing to extreme though.

One of those two will be purchased soon. It's going to come down to a coin toss because I can buy a camaro and build an LS1 to handle boost for less than a stock supra. Then on the other hand, I've never seen a Supra anywhere around my area so it would be rather unique. decisions decisions...

Debating between an AE92, Legacy GT (an older one obviously), or an AE86(least likely), while i'm in school. After school I'm certainly picking up an elise. I'd consider a cayman. The MR2 should be staying the entire time. Probably still incomplete.

Well I plan to drive my SAAB DD until it's either wrecked or won't go anymore...then get another. If they ever bring FIAT's to America I'd consider a 500 Abarth SS as a DD, but that's not happening so I'll stick with SAABs. As for a project, I can't seem to get the idea of 3rd gen Supra with a 1JZ swap out of my mind, but a camaro with a 350 is starting to creep back in.

Since the wife and I are back to one car again, we need to trade up to two. We need one for the family hauling duties and are looking at Cadillac SRX's and Mercedes R class. I'm leaning towards the R class as the prices have dropped like a rock and you can't find a more luxurious family mobile for 20k. I'm back to debating between an E46 BMW M3 or an '04+ Audi S4. The S4 is winning out right now since it has to be a DD and a toy. The AWD and 4 doors makes it a lot more practical then the M3.

Realistically this year I would like to buy an 02-08 2500 Silverado Crew Cab diesel. Reason being I want something to tow my camaro especially if I use the enclosed trailer this year. Parents got a truck I use and it's not a 4x4, but I'm in love with diesels. Could pick one up for cheap now too.

I see myself getting something in a couple years. I want to wait and see how the TTV6 Mustang looks/performs.
Its kinda tough though, because i'm also starting to get more interested in driving some daily, that isn't sporty... I'm thinking of looking into a used 07-08 CTS later this year, early next. once my credit is better. Not sure where they've left off with the coupe version, but that may be a possibility when new. Maybe a used 125i... who knows really.
And of course, the usual interests... gt500 in a couple years when the prices of the used have come down to the 30 range, c5/c6 vette, etc etc etc.
Personally, i don't want a car i'm going to want to mod.

well my taste in cars will likely never change, but my needs and responsibility will. I don't even have a car now that I'm "interested" in. I went with practicality and functionality instead.
My next car will either be an SUV/quad cab pickup...or a full size family sedan. 4 doors and significant cargo space is a must for me. I'll probably be taking that step in a little over a year...so i'll see what catches my eye at that moment.

Jeep GC SRT8 , i like these alot for some reason.
MB c63 or M3-E92 , if my wife lets me go that high.
used 08 ZO6, good chance since i do not need more than 2 seats for myself. WE have 05 eddie bauer expedition and a tahoe and toyota for the kids and such.
And lastly, i realy like the new Caddy CTS-V :)
I realy like the STi, and may get rid of the Tahoe for a different suv like a pathfinder or even the honda ridgeline (nice) and keep the STI for much longer. For my needs, and many, the subaru is a great car in many many ways. i just dont want to screw that up by 'over' moding her, which is most of our tendencies on here.

I don't see any reason why I'd move out of my Supra in the forseeable future, though who knows, that may happen one day...in which case I'm eyeing up Porsches...the recent vintage Porsche Turbos are going for pretty good deals now and there are certain tuners developing more reasonably priced upgrades (compared to other well known high-dollar Porsche tuners) for them to allow ballpark 700whp type numbers that appeal to me.
I am also thinking of some kind of dedicated track car...roadcourse track that is. My two boys are now 12 & 13yo and will be more and more interested in driving at the track; for this I don't want anything heavier than 2000 lbs. and no big motor stuff either. I'm thinking maybe a Spec Ford Racer seems almost perfect, sort of like this:

As long as my Buick wagon lasts (not worth sinking a lot of money into it) I'll be driving that for another year and half while my SS sits in the garage and goes out on the weekends. I honestly don't think I'll ever buy a brand new car, the depreciation is insane. I'm hoping in late 2010/eary2011 to get an 09 Pontiac G8 GXP. Hopefully by then it'll drop from around 40K to 20K and still have some warranty if GM doesn't go under. Full size, RWD, 415HP, 6 speed, Brembos, etc. LSx motors respond very well to small mods, so for not much money at all that car could be 600HP or more. I like everything about that car except the tail lights.

I can't imagine selling the cars i own now but I'd like to finally build the '98 240sx i been dreaming about since 2001. I'll probably end up spending more money on the stuff i own now and then just keep updating daily drivers depending on my money situation and school.

E46 M3 CSL, or at least CSL wheels/bumper and other related parts. It has become my goal to have this car, not as a DD but as my garage queen that I beat the piss out of on the weekends. Will probably get something nicer as a DD lol. I already have a deposit-only savings account towards the car with a 5% interest rate on it

I don't see myself selling the Civic anytime soon, but I figure one day in the next 5-10 years I will want to let it go.
By that time I'd love to pick up an NSX preferably, but I would settle for an S2000 without much of a thought. Really have no interest in anything out side of Honda/Acura honestly.
As a DD would like to buy an AWD RL and VIP it.

I'd like to see what the high-end/exotic market does over the next year. We haven't seen the full effect on the credit crunch, so my best guess at this point is the prices of all late model ferraris, lamborghinis, and non-rare porsche models will fall due to the market being flooded. The 360 is there right now, non-LP560-4 Gallardo's dropping fast, F430s hovering at the 140k mark, etc.
Ideally, I'd like either a 997TT, GT3, or F430 coupe 18-24 months out. A lot can change between now and then, but with the prices generally falling, there will be some "steals" in the luxury sports/exotic market.

i know for sure i'm keeping my car for at least another year and a half or so. But plans right now are to either get a truck or a jeep of some sort. Probably a wrangler rubicon. Still a year out, but a F150, Suburban, 4Runner or other suv/truck capable of towing 6000 lbs. The Miata is becoming more of a track car...well less of a street car...and I will have a car for w2w racing in the next two years, so towing will be required.

Lots of cars I'd love to own in the future but if I were to do anything in the near future it would be sell the Audi, and buy either a exceptionally well kept up 5 speed civic coupe for the reliability and mileage, or what I really want to do is buy an exceptionally well kept up Classic Mini!

my buddy has a car you would LOVE, its the best of both worlds for you... a honda and a classic MINI :)

Would love to do a project car (240sx, FC/FD, E30 M3) But I need something that is reliable and it has to be a DD for me, so really any project car is out of the question at this moment in my life.
But next car hopefully in a couple months will be a slow AWD turbo'd car in white.

some very interesting responses!
so far as me personally, i havent gotten it decided just yet bc i made a list of things i want and pretty much no car fills them ALL.
needs to be:
sporty sedan or coupe, twin clutch trans with paddle shifters (up shift on right, downshift on left), rwd but will settle for awd, nav, active suspension, great interior/exterior, good well rounded performance. this car has to perform well out of the box since i will be doing ZERO mods to it, but it must also be willing to drive to target or the mall without me loosing some teeth, hense the need for active suspension. every car i own from here on out will be bone stock.
so far the only cars close to that mark is the Audi S5 or lexus IS-F and the IS-F is not a twin clutch so im not crazy about it, but people say it does still shift fast but id have to drive one first.
and i also thought the v8 M3 but dismissed it bc every jerk-off out here owns a bmw and i dont want to blend in, the next car has to be semi unique. in fact, i think every car ill ever own will need to be unique...

A lot can change between now and then, but with the prices generally falling, there will be some "steals" in the luxury sports/exotic market.

i've been thinking about digging around to find a Mk 1 or Mk 2 GTI and building it up from scratch to be a super clean daily driver. no crazy motor work or swaps, not lowered excessively (if at all), and most certainly no loud exhaust.
i want to rip the motor and interior out and then stand it on its side and rip everything off of the underside of the chassis. i'll replace everything i can, and rebuild/restore everything else. i'll paint the body inside and out.
call me crazy, but for some reason i've recently become obsessed with the idea of building myself a *new* old GTI. i'm pretty sure i want to finish and sell my Integra so i can do it.

honestly i have no idea. i own a 1987 Audi 4000S right now and i've only recently started looking into what's possible for it and other older VW's. i know nothing about them besides the differences in body styles. i'm still researching. i actually just got done spending about an hour reading through a few different build threads in the MK1 section over on vwvortex.
my problem is that i know honda and nissan very well. VW is a whole different ballgame. i'm just now learning engine codes, specs and details and what it takes to do certain swaps. from what i've seen so far i think i might like to put in the 2.0L from one of the newer jettas. it would leave me with more power than stock (obviously) and still be weak enough for me to only want to drive it for gas mileage, not to rice it around.
we'll see though. a VR6 might end up finding its way into the engine bay

I really prefer Japanese cars when it comes to toys or reliable dd's but for SUV's I'm a domestic guy and for nice classy cars, I am German all the way.
You can't beat the bang for buck fun factor of 75% of japanese cars out there though which is why I am going all out on my 240 ang keeping it for a while unlike many people who buy cars, build them, and turn around to sell them.

I know, I have to save a little bit more just to keep some spare cash in the bank if anything happens. But once my tax return comes in on the 9th of march that should cover most of the tax, title and tag cost I hope. Hopefully this weekend I'll get a couple hundred for my birthday from family and I'll put that towards some springs right away.
I still need to go to the dealer and see if they can find a white one in the area and have it shipped in and then order some other ish for it from the factory. Hopefully if every thing goes to plan I hope I can get one by blown euroz and the sonic meet in early April
Alex if you want to take photos for me be my guest. I'll be taking some once i get it for sure you can count on it.

if you're looking for white w/ black int. good luck.
I looked for that combo for about 5months and only found 1 that had decent mileage and in a 5spd and it was sold within 24hrs of the for sale posting.

New 09 Spec B comes in Satin White Pearl with Black leather interior. If I can't do the Spec B I'll do the Diamond Gray Metallic or what ever it is in the regular legacy GT.

well the fiero is up for sale as i was left a 94 buick with 39k miles that will be getting the hood painted and 2 10 inch subs or 1 15 and drivin daily as it was my 86 year old grandmom who just passed so it is MINT never had food, smoke, drinks in it and it will be the dd. and i will get another fiero to drive for a weekend car but since i wont spend more then 1k i will list what is the bigger plan/project.
short term im going to go look at an orig. owner(there like amish type people cant think of the type but very simple people) 68 dodge dart 4 door very good condition was parked about 4 years ago with a slant six. it will be getting a home built simple 360(ported heads,cam,4 barrel holly, headers, and have a nice street car
long term
a reconstructed title focus hatch and will be pulling the 4cyl and will be going with a built and blown 351 smallblock ford and a built 9 inch rear done all in the garage hoping to hit somewhere in the range of 450-500hp around 500-600 tq and hopeing not to spend more then 5-6k and looking for high 11s and street legal :)

And ya, I kinda want a 4 cyl genesis coupe as a DD to go with the sti. But I really think the temptation to mod it would be too great. I really wanna 20g one of those. It would be such a nasty street car with around 300whp. I just dont think itd be good for me to have 2 money pits. and 2 cars that only take premium gas. Sometimes u gotta do wat u need to do, not what u want to do.......DAMN

I've been watching the depreciation rate of Bentley Continental GT's...they're creeping downward to my level. I think there's a lot of them around coming off leases. Even though I'm not a pimp, I think I'd enjoy driving around in one of those as a DD.

I thought the Genesis Coupe would be nice too, but it should be much faster than it actually is.
The 300HP+ V6 accelerates like it has 250HP and the 4 cylinder turbo accelerates like it only has 180HP.
And it is a heavy car. But looks and handles great.

yo dude Viper GTS FTW, who cares about comfort. Its a damn Viper. Rarer than a Z06 and in my opinion, more potential, if u know where and how to look. Not much else is badass like a viper, its about as Raw as it gets. 8 liter V10 with no assists. I just hope, sean3, that u know what ur doing with a car like that. Cuz thats not a car someone can just step into. Ud better know how to drive some ****, or it WILL laugh while it kills you. Vipers are no effing joke yo, i love them, but they are some serious ****. I have to disagree with that move, the Evo is more fun, I had a NISMO 350z and have driven Evos/STis. Just feel like you'd have more fun with the Evo that has a TON more potential.

Ya JonGT's car is sex, even more so now with the chrome'd wheels. A limited white on black LGT is fire, but very hard to find. When I bought my LGT last October I found one, and it was sold before I could even go look at it. I ended up getting Black on Tan, tan blows, definitely wait for a car with black interior. I started checking car-parts.com here and there to see if I can score a black interior to swap out.

White on black is only hard to find if you're looking for a used GT. I'm not looking at used GT's. Hopefully the dealer can find a local 09 White on black Spec B for me. Drop it right away to remove some of that ugly wheel gap and then save up money over summer for some rims.

Sounds like a plan, atleast the Spec B's come with Bilstein's, the stock springs and struts on the LGT's are crap, can't wait till I order my Stance coils in 2 weeks. What wheels come stock on the new Spec B's?

I've only driven a 2.5i and not sure if the LGT is the same way, but it rode fine for me. I'm used to driving a pickup with a stiff suspension. Probably going to order the JDM pink springs since I doubt I'll be going crazy and getting coilovers.
