So I was readin thru the latest subiesport and saw an ad for TXS' Knock light... I've been looking for something like this for a while and it sounds great... what are your thoughts? $120 sounds a bit pricey but then again, not as pricey as blowing the F out of your motor... I think I am going to get this. Anyone know of a better product?

here's the info on their site:

Detonation or "knocking" can destroy an engine in no time flat leaving you with a repair bill that can cost you thousands of dollars. So how do you KNOW that you are knocking BEFORE it's too late? The TurboXS KnockLite (TM) will detect even minor, inaudible detonation and flash the multicolored LED to alert you to the knock so that you can do something about it before it's too late. The KnockLite is a must-have product for anyone that is modifying their engine for more power. The KnockLite wires into either your factory knock sensor or into separate knock sensor (sold separately) that is mounted to your engine block. As an added bonus, the KnockLite also comes with a programmable shift indicator.

So why drive around hoping that your engine isn't knocking? Drive with confidence with the TurboXS KnockLite!

i saw that too and was thinking about it. I think it is a good buy for modified cars. I have two worries tho. The price. And second if it is using ur factory knock senseor wouldn't ur car see a knock anyways and limp mode the car.

I know with 2nd gen DSM's, there is a knock sensor but it's completely worthless. The SAFC V2 are suppose to be able to log/see this knock but it just does not work with 2gs what so ever. The cheap option to see this knock or detonation would be through the dips in timing that we would see when logging data/timing.

Now that I have a complete EMS system I should be able to see this much better. Since your car is newer and obviously has better technology I would do some more research before forking out $120. For all you know it may just be some cheap wiring and a pretty bulb that you could make yourself. Also look into the EMS systems that are offered for Scoobys and see if they could read/sense this knock. I wouldn't recommend getting this unless you are running race gas most of the time or have any mods that would require you to lean out your injectors.

Other then that there is no way I am paying $120 for a shift light...

the stock knock sensor is fine. the light works just like the ecu....but instead of pulling timing...it flashes. The knock sensor works by transmitting a voltage depending on sensor readings. When that reading reaches a certain voltage (when piston knock aka detonation occurs) the ecu pulls timing.

The TXS UTEC uses the stock sensor to determine knock and adjust accordingly. This just piggybacks(I believe) and gives you a visual indication that knock is occuring.

Oh, and you CAN use it without the UTEC.

I have it on my "dashboard" in the street tuner... but I dont roll around all the time with my laptop so it'd be cool for something to be in the cabin.

I think I still may go with the other unit "Knocklink"... it has a series of LEDs.
