I'm trying to help my buddy get his speedo and odometer working. His car is a 95 SE with a redtop swap in it. He has tried two guage clusters, and replaced the entire dash harness. He checked the voltage coming from the speed sensor, which is good. Upon climbing under the car, I spotted what I *think* to be the problem, which is an S13 speed sensor in his trans. Problem is- when using an S13 speed sensor in an S14, it SHOULD read double, right? His speedo sits at zero. It looks as if the s14 sub harness was removed for the swap, and the last owner wired it up to use the S13 VSS. My question is... wht would you do in this situation? Buy an S14 sub harness and speed sensor and hope that does the trick? Whats involved in installing the harness with the transmission still in the car?

s13 ss will read double on a s14 cluster. why dont you try hardwiring the sensor right to the cluster harness?

I may have an S14 ss for the transmission.

^^ what he said, why not just hardwire it?

I have wires going directly from the signal of the sensor to pins 28 and 35 on the gauge cluster. and it still reads nothing.

like on the back of the cluster or down by the ecu?
