There's two squeaks: one's definitely from the tape deck when I rewind the eighties rock music.

The other only occurs when I'm idling or when I'm cruising at a constant speed. Could it be the belt telling me something? I guess if I replace it now, it's a good idea. Car's got 104000 on it as of today.

I dont know how your engine is setup, but im assuming the water pump is in there too, mise well change that while you get it ripped apart

or are you talking about your serpetine belt that is making noise?

I don't know much about Saturns, but my ex-girlfriend had one that I did some routine maintenance work for her and it had a timing chain. From what I've read and heard all Saturns have timing chains not belts. It could be the serpentine belt(loose or worn out) or a squeaky pulley. Just some food for thought.

Well if it has a timing chain then its gotta be the serpentine belt....

It's a twin cam, I4, transverse engine. The squeak comes and goes.

It has to be the serpentine belt. Does it sound really loud when you first turn the car on?

Timing belt cannot squeak because it has teeth on it.

All searches come up with a timing chain. Heres a small trick, the next time it does it, give it a quick spray of WD-40 not alot just a quick tap on the nozzle and see if it goes away. A serp on that car is a very very easy fix and probably no more than 10 dollars.

I used belt dressing on a friends sisters car before and it got worse somehow. I grabbed some baby powder and it went away for a good month.

Yeah, I told her she needed to get it fixed but naturally she didn't get it fixed for a while since she couldn't hear anything.

Timing belts don't squeak.
