My DSM has been down and out for about six months now. It is beyond frustrating and I'm ready to get it back on the road. Here's where my problem lies. My block spun a rod bearing. I ordered a new crank , main and rod bearings , pistons and piston rings. The mechanic took my old block out and sent it to the machine shop to be assembled. (which would consists of taking the old crank out and putting the new one in , replacing the bearings , and installing the pistons and balancing everything). It's been three weeks since I've heard from him , so I decided to drop by tonight. So he says since it's the holidays and blah blah that the machine shop is taking forever and yada yada. So I asked him how much the machine shop would charge for the work . He said just a little under $1000:mad:. Now Am I over-exaggerating about this absurd price or is this 'normal' for the work I'm having done. I figure I can buy a short block for $1000 if that's the case. At this point I'm just beyond and am totally turned off about my car because this has become a complete nightmare. If anyone can offer me advice or recommend a normal machine shop in New Jersey , I would greatly appreciate it guys.
