i kind of hate these threads, but i'm bored and i really am having a tough time with this. I am on vacation until the 3rd but when i get back i pretty much have the Z sold. I'm selling the car to pay off some debt. I should have up to 6 to spend when its all said and done, but probably rather spend around 5. I really don't know what to get for my next car, and thats where you guys come in. I want to stay with something fun but also need it to be very reliable.

I have been looking around (i have no preference on what type of car i get) and have been kicking a few ideas around in my head:

-240 (preferably swapped)- would still be alot of fun (probably the most fun out of the group). reliability isn't always there with swapped cars, and KA i don't think will cut it. parts are everywhere and very cheap

-M3- really taking this into consideration. problem being miles and
condition won't be the greatest for my price range. they have come down ALOT though, i have found like 5 or so below $6500 in decent shape but with high miles

-Another 5.0- I can pick up a H/C/I car for pretty cheap these days, but it is still a mustang. no fun in anything but romping on it unless i drop some serious $ into suspension

-A4- reliability is my biggest issue with these cars. would be the ultimate since its nice on inside, awd for the winter (going to school in NY next year so this would help alot), still "quick", and moddable. they just seem kind of unreliable

I'm looking for suggestions for other cars and feedback on the cars i have mentioned. I'd love to find a wrx in my price range but that just isn't going to happen. that would be the ultimate for me at this point. i was also looking at galant VR4's but reliability steps in yet again and i'm still so so on the looks

Just out of curiosity, why do you say the KA wont cut it for the 240? For $6k, you could surely have a nice RELIABLE 240, whether its swapped or if you turbo the KA.

well obviously a turbo KA would be fine. i meant an N/a KA. it would get very old very quick for me, especially coming from the Z. i have driven quite a few n/a ka's and they are alot of fun will coils and such, but a little down on power.

i want to get something i'll keep a while (probably won't happen haha), so i'd liked to get something i'm not going to be totally bored with in a month

Well, for that price you could definitely picked up a nicely swapped S13, or if your willing to put the time in, you could build a nice KA-T. I mean shoot, pick up that coupe FazdaGT is selling for $1200 then you have $3800 to put into it which is more then enough to build a fun car. Pick up a KA24DE, throw a set of rods and pistons in, ARP head studs, new gaskets etc, slap a turbo set up on, voila.

DO IT!

Dude with 6k you can find a nice 240sx with a sr20det!

Think of all the amazing pixel cars you could build with $6K

:-p

If I were looking to spend 6 thousand dollars on a car, it would probably be a clean rwd nissan with a fresh 6 cylinder.

If you don't have the extra money to spend after the purchase of a car don't get an M3. M3's, M5's, etc... are high in maintenance.

selling a car to pay off debt... but looking to pick up another project? i'd say get a used civic and be happy w/ that for a while... but it will get stolen...

so i say get a used toyota corolla

honestly wit 6k, u could only afford a 240 or a 5.0. personally i would venture into the honda world and pick up a swapped civic and maybe boost or a gsr. an a4 that would be reliable for that price is out of the question, and they arent quick. an the same for a m3, it wouldnt be in great condition

you couldn't pay me to buy a modded honda... they disappear from driveways way to quickly anymore.

that or with any modded car, your getting someone else's problem. be very careful when looking.

Thought about possibly a Prelude? In your price range, reliable as all hell, fun to drive...and they don't get stolen like crazy.

You can have cheap, fast, and reliable...but only 2 at the same time. :(

I hate to sound like a dad, but you should just buy a 4 cyl econo car. College only lasts 4 years and when you graduate you can buy something you really love.

Save your money for books, food, and most importantly going out. It sucks sitting in the dorm watching hordes of hot girls go out and you have no money to spend.

i am paying off some debt, and will still have the majority of the $ left to buy something else. i don't really see why this would warrant going to an economy car? also i'm not looking for a full on project, obviously anything i buy is going to need a few things and i'm going to want a change a few things to my liking.

i'm already in school, but i'm not going up to new york until august so i'm not going to drive an econo box for that long. also no FWD for me, i have done the honda thing i don't like it at all. honestly coming from the Z, upkeep is something i am pretty used to. i'm thinking of going with the 240, as mentioned a few times here. the market is right for those cars right now. the M3 was an idea but I don't really think its me, as with the a4.

You could def. get a swapped s13 for that price range. How about a AWD Impreza L with wrx swap? You can search rs25.com for one... Or you could pic up a SC300 but it would most likely be stock.

Celica gts if a very fun car to drive...where it lacks in torque it makes up in handeing and looks...most importantly the girls love it!
down side is you dont get the response to mods like a rsx...though with an extra 5k you can turbo or sc that biznatch! They are very very reliable but your not getting a nice one for 6k unless it has almost 200k best you could probably do is "ok". got mine for 7k with 125k on it looks like it only has 70k on it..very well maintained.

--OOPS no FWD, should of read more...well you could do a rwd conversion and drop a 2JZ-GTE engine in it!:supz:

Sure, its a wagon.
Sure, its slow.
Sure, its two tone body paint job.

But it has AWD.
But it has room to bang chicks in the back.
But with the $2,400 you save, you can do quite a bit to the wagon!

But man, old impreza's have such great potential. Plus, its only $3,600 with just 101k on the ticker.

buy a non M e36 325is...

not quite as powerful as the m3, but much cheaper to pick up, and you can easily disguise it..

i've had a few e36's and if you don't mind fixing the little things here and they they're great cars.

I've found that when I buy a 240 and don't have a ton of money to dump into it as i'd like, i get extrely bored with it very quickly.

Haha, that goes for Honda's, 240s, etc etc etc. Unless you dump some good amount of money into them they aren't really that much fun and you can't really stand out at all. Pain in the ass really.

the guy is supposed to come pick it up monday or tuesday but if it falls through i'll let you know, i'd love for it to go to a true enthusiast...

As for other cars, i noticed that as well... every 240 i find i want something to be different haha...but thats most cars. As for the non M bmw i've been thinking about that... but i feel like i would get bored with it very quickly.

i found an 86 mustang just like my old one except with a built 347. i'm afraid i'll get sick of it quickly but i have a soft spot for the 4eye cars and its basically what i wanted my old one to be: ~350whp, 5lug, suspension, etc.

no clue what to do haha. gotta hope my car goes this week before i can start really worrying.
