Still cool as hell, I'd enjoy breaking it's tranny.

Why do they have a picture of parts and have a 4cyl/8cyl head gasket?
Forget about the power and start trying to swap in a 350z 6speed or the ZR1 6speed.

Why must you come into every thread on the GTR and say you don't like it? We know dude, we know. You are way too badass for it.
Anyway, when I think of this car, the last thing I think it needs is two superchargers up front. Still interesting to see people doing different things, though.

Notice they say its great for street course and time attack, but not drag racing.
Amazing low end grunt, but I bet the superchargers are more of a restriction than anything at high rpms.

Not so much jokes, the owner of Seabox in Riverton NJ has one, waited 3 months to get it and the first week he had it the trans went, and the estimate to replace was over 20K.

Ok, here his problem, and the problem with all the other IDIOTS busting GTR trannys. He was launching his car with only 200 miles on it?!?!?!?! what a f*cking idiot!!!!!! let the damn car break in before u drive it hard, I promise, if ppl would just have some damn patience and wait till the engine and TRANSISSION had broken in, there would be nowhere near as many problems. And that is true of any car. let the car break in for 1000 or so miles b4 u beat on it. That's probly why Nissan hasn't jumped to fix the tranny issues, because there probly isnt anything wrong with them. The real problem is too many stupid f*cking ppl with too muck f*cking money. and that is also why they dont cover it under warranty, and i agree that if the car has any problems due to excessive driving before the break in period is over, then the warranty should not cover the costs at all. If someone is stupid, then it is THEIR fault.

Some part of what you say is true, but he didn't break it on a launch. Getting on it yes, but it locked up somewhere around 60mph. The warrenty was however void...... he road races and this car never made the event yet, but it had stickers allready and they would not honor the warrenty. He also has a Fererri, Viper, and an M3 all treated the same, all road raced, and all with working trans.
Break in period, reminds me of back in 2002 when i test drove the WRX. The sales guy said you cant spin the wheels, and asked me to try and I did. Took it to redline and dumped it. It chirped then made a loud pop. I then got back into my car and went home.
SovXietday
12-29-2008, 05:57 PM
Not in the sense that you're implying, they don't just fail because they're "not broken in." They break because they can't handle the power. It's also more of an "initial wear" when it comes to a transmission, where as an engine needs to smooth the bore with the rings using combustion pressure in order to "seat" the rings correctly. Which, I might add, it's better to break in an engine with the foot on the floor than it is to baby it around.

God it was a while ago.... Something like wha wha what happened what was that noise. I probably said I dunno I think it broke. It was the dealer in Feasterville and it happened on the road right beside the K mart and Sunoco station. I drove down there turned around and he said that its fast, launches good and cant chirp. I was like really, he was like yeah test it out so that's why he had me go down that road, its really quite. We ended up pulling it to the side and walking to the dealer it was right next door pretty much. He went to the manager and said the car broke down, I told him I wasn't interested I was mad at the fact it was 4 door. I liked the 2.5 RS from previous, and I left. Now hearing about them I think we broke the front axle.

you must've missed the part in the whole debate about this is that nissan has gone on to mention that the trans only holds up to so many launches using the launch system... w/o that system being used, the trans holds up longer...

Why is the GTR so cheap? Because Nissan will make the profits back through tranny replacements. It's like they planned it, theres a page in the owners manual to log transmission replacements.
A car like that should be able to put it's power down, seems like the transmissions require replacement more frequently than the engine oil. Never a GTR or Nissan product for me.

they planned it like this? orly???....can you please show me a link to your sources that says "here at nissan we intentionally gave this car a weak transmission to screw you over when YOU LAUNCH THE **** OUT OF IT (against warranty) and break your tranny so you have to pay 20k for a new transmission" theres probably a place in the owners manual to log every bit of information on the car...including a part that says
"hey if you launch this car 4 times the warranty is voided....the transmission will only last 10 launches."
because thats an actual part of the user manual/ warranty info....but im sure you read that part, right? because you know everything.
i want to see that, or something besides **** talk from you...actually contribute to a GTR thread for once...or shut the **** up and dont post in one.

once again... the trans doesn't blow from launching... it blows from using the launch controller that is able to be turned on or off at the owners discretion. It is noted from nissan that using this feature will void your warranty, because in tests the $20,000 transmission only held up to launches using that feature...something like 10 times... they let you know that this will result in the eventual destruction of the trans, that is why they void the warranty. they're not replacing something they told you would happen...
but hey, if you're on a race team and can afford to replace the transmission after every 10 runs (b/c it helps you win 20k+ races) then by all means... its there for you.
now, will you butt holes shut the hell up and pull the pen out of your urethra?

Now that I think about it, this is pretty dumb. I think they tried this with the 2003-2004 Cobras. The thought that by adding twin turbos to the current roots blower they could make an unbeatable machine by facilitating the immediate torque from the blower with the top end power of the turbos. They failed.
They should have just added some juice to this thing and it would have made more sense and not been such a toll on the tranny and more of a toll on the intake manifold which I haven't heard of breaking. NOS would get it off the line quite well and get it up to where the turbos operate very well.

Not really, I don't even like any Mazda's aside from the Miata, not even the RX8 or any of the other Mazdaspeed cars, I just happen to strongly dislike the GTR, I would rather get a used 911 Turbo if I wanted a good performing AWD car, and I would have 3 pedals in that car as well.
