Think your the best? Well show the rest!

So i had this idea since there seems to be lot of threads in the gallery of people showing off their work on some pretty dirty cars.. So my idea is to have whoever is interested sign up by emailing me @ FlimFlam32@gmail.com and we can set up a SHOW DOWN! The way i have it figured is we will set it up by pairing each detailer with a dirty car from TST..

The people who are getting their cars detailed will have to cover the cost of supplies to make it fair. The cars being detailed will be picked later after the detailers submit there info to me and i see how many we will have participating, at this point I will pick a date that works with all involved..

On the day of after everyone is paired up, the cars will be driven by the owner to where ever the detailer wants to perform his work... At a set time all the cars will meet for judging..

What will you get out of this?? RESPECT and BRAGGING rights that you are the best TST detailer and a ton of customers and publicity as deatailer

What you need to email me:
Name;
Email;
TST user name;
A place to do your work Y or N;
Available on weekends Y or N;

This is a difficult situation as all paints are different. How do you plan to match up cars to detailers?

It will be random.. A good job on a hard car to detail will surely get you points..

In the spring people will wash their own cars.. Now is the time when no body wants to do it because of the cold.. So this is the time of year you need a good detail person...the cars will be judged by everyone who participates..and who ever else wants to come hang out. Well have the meet/judging at the KOP mall or something so there is plenty of parking and then we can go to champs or something and all sit down and eat...

I agree my evo is in shambles right now, it's to damn cold to be washing and detailing. Unless someone has a detail shop with heat that would be willing to host a weekend event? just an idea.

I also advice that judging should be done in person, if possible. Then have a best improvement catagory vote here on the site. Pictures hide to many fine details to be judged and better cameras will take better looking pictures, which will sway a vote.

Would the detailers be able to freshen the cars up when they got to the meeting place? I'm sure some would need the wheels/fenders/fender liner wiped again.

Wow everyone wants to complain and say how bad idea this is then why even post at all. If people wanna participate they will if not they won't. This is why TST sucks cause people don't think they just speak and think they are funny and witty.

Not to speak for george but i would say some time would be allowed like 10-15 minutes just to go over the car.

I think it's a cool idea. You could just get anyone who isn't participating in the competition to judge by ballot? I don't know. I wanna see this though. Or just get a lambo for each detailer and we'll see who's got the best lambo in the end ;)

Its a damn good idea but seriously it to damn cold for that right now. Everyone that details may not have a facility to do that. First of all its no fun working in water in the dead of winter. two, the minute u spray the car down the waters gonna freeze. If u have a facility then ur good. Another thing is the car owner has to fund the supplies. well the supplies are too damn expensive to have your car done then the weather is messed up the next day. I would be pissed. Trust save this e event for the spring. I know this because i own M and P Mobile detailing. If u need a reference im in the phonebook (philly)

i think its an awesome idea, settle who's the better detailer once and for all, but definitly wait till spring, have everyone go mudding first and then detail

Seriously I would pull out my supplies and try to compete in this. I think it is a great idea and with some ideas and planning it could be competitive. Most cars are going to take all day to compete, so I think just paying for supplies is shorting the detailers as I am sure there will be neglected cars rolling in.

good idea, not a good time. Its ****ing cold and no one wants to hang out outside for something like this.

There's still going to be a lot of salt and crud on the road too, regardless of it being dry out... i think this would go over better as a spring/summer deal. Good idea regardless... should spend the time now planning for this in the spring/summer

My mini is very dirty and I'll pay to have it cleaned, you can tape it down the middle and have 2 detailers work magic on each side:-p

I'd be willing to judge as I know most of the rules that the NCCA judges check when they are judging cars for the main shows. Not to mention, my car is always spotless and I know what looks good and what doesn't haha.

I'm in.

Only one suggestion. Try finding the same color car for each detailer, and I would cover a little more than the costs because it isn't the easiest, and it is time consuming.

I just want to throw my 2 cents in here, this is not directed at ANYONE.

If it is too cold to detail, then why would you offer detailing services just for the warm months when everyone would rather "wash" their own cars. Cars need more protection in the winter, that a PROPER detail will provide, and if it is done right a little drive to the meeting place should be NO concern because dirt should wipe right off. Also main roadways, will have most of the salt/crud removed from other vehicles frequently driving on them. Cars need to be detailed year round, if you only do it during the warm months, how are you going to keep customers?

I will take this one....because washing your car is not detailing. Washing a car is something I do twice a weak when the weather is nice. Winter, I still spray my car off at least 2-3 times a week.

My car gets a full detail by me (8-10+ hours) every 3 months. I think alot people confuse a wash and wax, with a full detailing. I do everything, taping of my windows, dressing everything, painting wheel wells, engine, etc.

BTW you never wipe dirt off.

If anyone on this site thinks this is cheap or easy labor, think twice.

My generalization to "wiping dirt off" was my way of saying take a wet towel to clean out the fender wells. If absolutely necessary a microfiber towel and detail spray to small areas of dirt.

Like you said, a detail is not simply cleaning a car. A detail is cleaning a car, then taking it beyond that with paint correction (to get rid of swirls/rids/waterspots/etc.) to give the paint that flawless look that washing will never get you. In fact washing your car causes rids/waterspots if not done with the correct materials/methods. It requires such attention to detail (hence the term :eek:) that some people are just completely baffled by it. I can name off....8 steps just to properly clean and protect a wheel.

It becomes very involved, I've had plenty of details take me the course of days, for various reasons, such as the cure time for glazes/glosses, the size of the vehicle, how dirty the vehicle initially was and so on. This is a time consuming process that can not be rushed and can not be done by someone with little experience. However, if you enjoy it as much as I do, it is rewarding every time.
