Not sure which one is the best but i do know the PS3 rates as one of the better players on the market.....

You want to look for one with the Profile 2.0 thats the new firmware to allow interactive play, aslo features true full 1080

look on like CNET.com just google best Blu Ray players

well if you dont plan on spending a few hundred on a blu ray player dont even bother.....

thanks... i think i said i'm not going to spend a few hundred on a ps3...

I don't need, nor want, game features or extra game controllers sitting around. on top of that, blu-ray players appear to have a slim design, whereas the ps3 is not slim. further, a ps3 costs $400 as per best buy, where a number of blu-ray players are well under that mark...

so yeah... i'm not spending a few hundred on a game system that has a blu-ray player... when a dedicated blu-ray player is going to be cheaper and most likely have the same, if not better, stats.

which is why i asked about players... not gaming systems...

Yeah, pretty much. I'm not sure if any other payment is accepted but AmEx is the only card they accept afaik.

Amex, cash or debit (enter your PIN) only.

I'm tempted to get the PS3 as my Blu-Ray player since I've been wanting an excuse to buy the PS3 and I need a Blu-Ray to watch movies on my new LCD.

I use the PS3 as my Blu-Ray player and to store photos and videos. I barely use it for gaming, mostly because PS3 games suck.

With the new updates coming for PS3 its going to be an unbelievable Media Hub, but OT you dont need one with Internet connectivity its just the new thing as well as profile 2.0 which allows BD-Live, has more features, better playback, better quality with the video/audio....

So you're saying, "Wait to buy one"? Or do units currently available have these new features?

You dont have to wait, Sony has constant firmware updates for any verison of the PS3, as soon as you have an internet connection it searches for updates, im saying Sony has updates that have already released and plan to continue to unlock features many did not know about.....

Although the new 80g PS3 do not support Backwards compatipility, and a lot of people dont know that

If you don't get a PS3, get one with internet connectivity. Why? Because other players also have firmware updates also!

Oh and the new 160gig PS3 isn't BC either.

PS3 games don't suck. I wouldn't trust an xbox with my money at all.

PS3 is cool but that isn't what he is looking for guys.

SG, if you're still looking check out Sony's BDPS350: it is inexpensive, will do everything you are looking for and has a great quickstart mode.

^^^ I have a link for that one above, its a solid blu ray player and only complaints are the recessed HDMI ports, which who really cares about that

I actually just bought my dad that one on black friday for 199.99, couldnt pass it up for him
