With 100 percent of precincts reporting early Wednesday, 54 percent, or 56,001 voters, cast ballots for the ordinance, while 46 percent, or 48,632 voters, voted against it.
Under the measure, residents over 21 years old could possess up to an ounce of marijuana.

dude i know this may seem like a totally loser comment but pot is just overrated and to the people who think drugs are cool your a total waste wake up and realize that there are better things to do with your life then get ****ed up and fund illegal things that take place in the towns you live in. One day your realize that that 5 dollars you spent on that bag of weed funded the gun that shot the bullet that killed a family member (maybe even just an innocent bystander), maybe not a person in your family but in someone else's.

Speed is my crack. And I'll only ever be able to afford more speed. Crack is out of the budget entirely, haha.
I had some very smart friends that were big into POT in HS. They definitely weren't the same afterwards.
I've got problems with bad memory already, I don't need anymore help, lol.

Notice how the article said that local authorities would still be arresting/prosecuting individuals under state and federal law. In other words, passing the local ordinance meant absolutely nothing.

yeah, this law is total crap. They are justifying the use of one harmful substance because it will lessen the use of another harmful substance GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR A$SES... what is wrong with people. I see how both sides have a point, but come on, please come up with a stronger argument than this.

Actually it would.
Without getting into a big pissing contest about it, the government line of "pot is bad" is just complete BS. The government has gone as far as running ad campaigns that are straight up lies regarding drugs. Additionally, the billions of $$$ that are being torched to fund the "war on drugs" is government waste on a massive scale. Instead of spending ALL of what we do now to fight pot, it should be legalized (similar to liquor laws) and taxed, which would bring in tax revenue and reduce deficit spending, etc etc etc.
Should ALL drugs be legal? Of course not. It wouldn't be a good idea to be able to pick up a syringe of heroin at the Wawa on your way home from work. What this law is talking about is the equivalent of being able to keep beer in your house.

you know i see your point but im not sure if you ever seen them commercials about buying drugs where the money you spend on drugs is all brought back to the main supplier who, you may not know, is a terrorist. you gotta think why would the governement legalize something that would be funding there enemies?
also if the government legalized it now they would have all the criminals locked up for drugs in jail gettin bailed out and then the govenment would have a huge law suit because the "criminals" would have way to question the government on why its ok for it to be legalized now rather then they put the "criminal" in jail. the goverment would need excessive amounts of proof they have found. which would be too much for the government to further prove to the joury that its ok now but not then.

It would be done within limitations. Like the article said, 1 oz. People who get caught now with less than 1oz don't generally see jail. They get fined.
I'm sure sellers would need a license to distribute, similar to a liquor license, etc etc etc.
It can be done. Easily. It won't, for the same reason that the government won't fight for stem cell research. A bunch of way too conservative religious nuts that contribute loads of money say it's bad, because god said it's bad.
