I'm lookin to maybe get some jdm parts for my 04 sti. I'm not a huge expert on jdm parts so I'd like to know...what parts would be worth getting for my usdm sti that where much better on the jdm version. I'm not lookin to spend a huge amount of money. Just a few hundred or so at most. Thnx

before you get flamed a bit - let me help you out a bit.
when you ask about JDM mods, what exactly are you referring to? Exterior / styling mods? Performance mods? interior mods? there is an endless amount of performance parts & accessories for your car. when you say "is there a better part on the JDM then the USDM" are you referring only to OEM parts? or aftermarket parts?
the question is too open ended to be answered.

I'd recommend you buy the JDM "Can't make new threads button" in Sti Pink, Subaru of America might import them.

I would say for this form's purpose, performance mods. cuz the others will depend on my personal preference. Im not sur exactly what im lookin for, but what i meant was this... if im gonna buy jdm parts, id want to buy a part that would be a good bit better than the OEM part on my car. I already have an intake, and a full exhaust. im kinda just lookin for suggestions on things to look for that would be a worthy buy.

why spend all of your money on JDM parts? why not just spend it on performance?

Thats what i have been doing, and thats my plan for future mods. But me and my friend are goin to a jdm warehouse sometime in the next few weeks. so im just curious about whats out there. id say mostly for things like suspension or whatever, cuz i already know what im gonna do with my engine with respect to mods. but if anyone knows any good engine stuff, i deff wanna hear about it. But ya, my overall plan is to buy aftermarket performance parts, but since im goin to this place i wanna know what stuff i should be on the lookout for, performance wise.

keep it simple. do accent pieces like buttons, interrior, body. performance parts get complicated because jdm motors are usualy 100% different. im not a subaru guy but i know most mitsu and honda stuff is 100% not interchangeable without a motor swap. i would stick with parts for your USDM car. you can get JDM parts like intakes and exhausts from JDM companies.

my friend was tellin me about jdm pinks, does anyone know how much theyd actually do compared to the usdm suspension?

I believe they lower the car around 1 inch or so, and are probably a bit stiffer. I'm not a Subaru guy though. I just searched. As an Evo owner, I don't believe in lowering springs or any of that stuff. Coilovers are the way to go imho, but JDM Pinks are a genuine Subaru item so I'm sure they'd do fine if you're on a budget.

Pinks are more expensive than other brands like Tein, Swift, etc

JDM parts are stock parts your right! BUT they are Stock to the Japanese market not our market. There are plenty of worth while differences with JDM verse USDM.
-Is a SR20DET or RB Series engine just a little different then the KA24DE?
-Are Civic type-r seats just a little different then civic usdm seats? Do the JDM type-r seats not hold you better and not have harness slots?
-Is the VF22 turbo from a JDM Subaru the same as the td04 US spec turbo? How about the VF23, VF32, VF34?
-Can you go to the junkyard and find a Celica GT4 engine for me?
-Are 1jz's and 2jz's as easy to get here in the states as opposed to japan?
Besides alot of JDM parts actually having a true performance or styling difference then what we have in the states its just much more satisfying to have something that wasnt ment for us in the first place.
Then of course theres the JDM aftermarket which has some serious sh** that we dont get here.

Ndubz - there really isnt much you could benifit from JDM cause your sti allready has most of the good stuff. The sti pink struts like mentioned are no better then say KYB AGX's and cost twice as much. Only real things I oculd think of that would as perfermance would be the JDM STI strut bars (carbon fiber), and a VF22 turbo that came on the earlier model wrx in japan. The VF22 is known for its "lag" with the 2.0L but with the 2.5L it spools quicker and has higher boost and HP potential the the VF39.
vr-4-life - You mentioned most Honda stuff isnt interchangable but im pretty sure most of it is. Even without a engine swap not to mention most honda engines can even swap Heads / internals from one another.. DSM's are a whole other story though. i know nothing there.

Yeah, most Honda stuff is interchangable. The only real thing off the top of my head is that the ITR intake manifold doesn't fit on the GSR head, other than that just about everything fits no problem.

Whatever you do, DON'T do what the STi owner did in this video because it clearly made him slower than a honda: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0G0VHIs6NIM
On a more serious note, why don't you call up a few vendors and see what they can do for you and see their opinions. I would imagine they would be able to answer your questions quicker and more intelligently than the average TSTer.
Apparently EliteJDM hand picks all their JDM parts when they personally fly to japan to load up crates. They might be a good place to start, there website is kinda lacking at the moment but it gives their contact information. www.elitejdm.com

Try changing internals in a JDM d series. Im not talking about bolt ons.
It's not JDM.. but a lot of the guys like to put the limited lip on the 04's. I think it looks good. As far as JDM, I hear putting the JDM tail lights is a thing to do.

EH? Please explain. From what I believe all D series have the same bore of .75mm and the only difference in displacement is the stoke on a d15 being 84.5mm and a d16 being 90mm.

Thats where Duzs and I are going when they get their new shippment all organzied and what not.
Nick if the jdm pinks are only as good as the KYBs then you should prolly just get some AGXs and some springs that only lower the car <1in.
Those JDM buttons sound hawt tho lol

JDM and cheap are not interchangeable.
I have a good deal of JDM parts on my car and things just arent cheap.
The JDM engine mods just dont make power like the USDM parts generally do...and plus the JDM WRXs have 2.0... we have the 2.5 motor which is a different beast all together... i used to have JDM exhaust and just wasnt worth having.. sure it was SOMEWHAT rare and all but just wasnt giving me the power i was looking for.
The JDM exterior mods are out of this world and can definately set your car apart from the rest but again definately not cheap.
The body kit i have on order is well over 3 thousand dollars and thats without paint or install :bigeek:
