So the time has almost arrived for me to be reinstalling the motor in my STi. For those of you who don't know the history, go here:

http://www.tristatetuners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=55661

(Cliff notes: car blew up twice since buying it 6 months ago. Cyl #4 ring lands and now Cyl #2 piston)

I know a few of you offered assistance and I'd like to take you up on that offer. I can turn a wrench as good as anyone but I'm worried about getting the timing belt/cams set up correctly, as well as getting all the vacuum lines hooked up right.

So I'm trying to see who would be interested in giving me a hand getting this thing running again. Vince from RT is currently working on building me a short block with forged pistons, new rings/bearings, etc. He said it should be ready by the end of this week or early next week.

I'll be working on the car nightly after work (starting around 8:00pm) as soon as I get the short block back with the goal being to have the car running by sun night the 23rd.

So who wants to help a brotha out? I'll supply beer and food.

I'd help as I've taken the motor out of my wagon and put it back it but I did not assemble the motor. I had the shop put the heads on and set the timing for me.

I think I spent like $300 (3 hours) to have the shop assemble and set the timing for me. Then dropped it in.

I know, I was really only hoping for weekday help from the locals.

If you could make it up sometime during the weekend (sat 22 or sun 23) that would be great.

Hopefully I get the SB back this week. If I do and you can make it sometime this weekend we could maybe get the heads on, cams in and timing belt set, then I'll have next week to get the intake, exhaust, accessories, etc on and then maybe you could make it back up on the 22 or 23 for dropping the motor back in and getting it fired up.

I'm counting on you Ray.

I'd help but I'm in school. But if u give up on doing it on ur own, there's a great shop that specifies in stis in Neptune new jersey called precision tuning. They ain't too expensive and they WILL do it right

oh yeah cool, you guys all wanted to help out when it first broke...

Basically what will happen is, if you don't help me install my engine, the terrorists win.

Rodder, for the little amount of money it costs to get the timing belt, cam gears, etc all on and set right, i'd go that route. I'd hate to see a 3rd ****ed up motor over something so little.

this is the truth, when i assembled my long block i closed the garage door and had only one more person there. you do not want alot of people there trust me.

so in that case, I guess it'll be just you and me assembling the long block Ray!

I seriously don't have a dime of extra cash to spend. I just started a new job after being without work all summer (got laid off right after buying the blown up STi - this is the second time I've had to pay for a complete engine rebuild without any income :() and I had to take a 50% pay cut. Hence the reason I'm trying to do as much of the work as possible myself. It's barely enough to cover my mortgage while my wife is stuck paying every other bill we have on an even smaller salary.

I'd still like to recruit as many people as are willing and able to help for the actual fully assembled engine install. More people = more eyes to catch any mistakes I might make.

that sounds cool to me, though I was kinda hoping to do it at my place and you did offer to come up and help. Once I get the short block back from Vince I'll let you know. Should be early next week but I probably wouldn't be able to make it down to you until next weekend.

Any chance you can at least come up for the initial fire up and break-in? I need a tuner on hand to make sure I don't over-fuel it and wash down the cylinder walls before the rings get a chance to seal.

yeah I totally understand that issue. My new job has pretty ****ty hours.

What I'd like to do I guess is bring the short block, heads, cams and timing belt stuff down to you for assembly. Then I'll bring the mostly assembled long block back to my place and install everything else (intake, accessories, exhaust, etc.) I bought a set of defi gauges to help keep on eye on vitals so I have to get them wired up as well. Then once the motor's ready to get dropped back into the car we'll arrange a weekend day that we're both free so you can come up and keep an eye on the tune during the break-in procedure.

Sound good?

oops, just heard from Vince. He can't get main bearings until next week so I probably wont get the SB back until the end of next week. So Ray, can I plan on bringing the SB and heads and stuff down to you on the 22nd or 23rd?

dont have many free days but if i'm available i'll lend a hand... i'd like to do something to give you a little hope that subarus arent all bad news... the community can be pretty cool sometimes. let me know and if i'm able to i'll help out with pulling the motor...

Say when and if I am around I will be over. Don't know how much I could do but an extra hand couldn't hurt.

Post date and time and i'll see if I can attend to lend a hand.

uhh, guys? little help here??

I guess the plan for now is to assemble the long block at Ray's, then do the rest at my house. My work hours keep me from doing much during the week so if anyone is available for any weekends coming up I'd love a hand getting this thing running again. I'm now shooting for either thanksgiving or the following weekend (Dec 6 & 7).

oh yeah, I'm about 15 minutes north of allentown/whitehall.

anyone around to lend a hand? I got the short block back last weekend and have been wrenching a little bit every night. I'll be reinstalling the motor in the car either this or next weekend.
