There was a post a while back about the M5 that went across the country in under 32 hours, 7 minutes. This weekend, we're doing an event something like that. Only not at all.
I figured I'd share with you guys because I think it'll be pretty ridiculous and enjoyable... multiple teams/cars, no one can spend more than $2904 on everything. This includes car, fluids, food, etc. Brooklyn Bridge to the Golden Gate non-stop... except if/when our 1994 ex-cop car breaks down.
You can track our progress via live-blog at http://www.topgear.com/us/blog/more/the-2904 , and on the homepage with the most recent links at www.topgear.com. While you're there, poke around the new US site which has plenty of the excellent UK feature and video content for you to waste time looking at.
Wish me luck!

thats good time... i used to make that drive (boulder, co to langhorne, pa) and it took me just about 27 hours. i'd usually do boulder to chicago the first day which is 15 hours, then chi to langhorne the second day for the other 12. that was basically stopping for gas and quick food and thats it.
and chris, sounds like fun... had no idea you were doing it but good luck...

Oh man, the excitement has begun and we're not even out of Brooklyn yet. Car is now on a lift getting an alignment since it was downright scary. Holes in the roof, holes in the floor, game on.
I'll try and post here as we update the blog, but it'll be pretty constant once we're on the road. Shooting then editing, writing, and uploading from the back of the car via 3G card.

Thanks to those of you who checked it out, thanks, what an experience. Just got back. (http://www.topgear.com/us/blog/more/the-2904-the-neverending-journey-ends/)
I know people say things like this all the time, but as a car enthusiast you absolutely owe yourself to drive across the country. Go now while gas prices are still low. Go with two or three friends, bond with them, bond with the car and look at the diversity of this country. You'll also smell like the Great Depression and start wondering what the hell you got yourself into somewhere around Nebraska, but it will be more than worth it.
If you want to catch up on the blogs they're all listed here; http://www.topgear.com/us/blog/more/the-2904/
I think it's pretty damn entertaining but I guess I'm a little biased.
I would love to do that...been cross-country in a car once for vacation, but I'd like to do it again now that I'm older.
Just don't have the time or money.
I'll make a documentary of it if people pitch money! haha
