scrap dudes love these things. do they just take them to scrap yards?

should i do any disassembly before bringing em in, like your supposed to do with radiators?

nothin special, just have 2 s13 converters ive had for years. figured i would try to grab some cash for them instead of letting them rust away

if anyones got any advice, thanks in advance

took some down to a scrap yard yesterday. Just bring them down there and they will take a look and give you a price. I got 35 for each cat in my subaru which were "small" ones

35 sounds low. Should be able to get 100 bucks each minimum.

are you serious?! I'm gonna start buying stock exhaust systems for like $30 and just trash all the piping and sell the cat hahaha

I heard most places give between 75-100. My buddy gets cats and takes them apart and puts them in a 55 gallon container and some place from texas come and picks the container up and he gets some really good money for them.

I know a guy on a different forum that said that he would buy subaru downpipes for 100+ (cause they have 2 cats in em) but i would have to ship it
I got a total of 70$ for the dp and I went to another place that said $60. Iam pretty sure prices r down on these things right now

I don't know about in your guys' area, but in mine people/dealerships have had issues with people stealing cats off the cars and selling them because there is good money in them.

You def get big bucks for cats off high end/european cars......the place i went to said some go for about 200+ depending on size and what car it came off of.

I remember hearing that the honda element was having big problems with people going to dealerships and sawzall'enem off because those ones bring in more.

Just because a catalytic Converter is small does not mean it is not very valuable. It is what is inside that is valuable i.e. rhodium and platinum etc... Back in the summer OEM Honda and Mazda (basically anything foreign was bringing in good money) cats were going for a very good penny! I'm talking the 200 dollar range. Not sure where the market is with the cats right now. I haven't dabbled with that crap since the summer. I know the guy that bought the cats at my dads scrap yard, so we got some of the best prices. Unless you are a scrapper and collect many many cats, then it is hard to get top notch prices. So, I'd advise you to take what you can get. On the other hand, aftermarket cats don't bring crap. At my pops scrap yard they were getting 12 bucks for them. Hardly worth it, but it was something. lol

Steel on the other hand has dropped significantly! During the summer there were record high prices of 13.50 and now since the economy has gone to crap it has dropped off to around 3.50. The shredders don't have any orders to fulfill so expect prices to go even lower. If ya have any steel, or light iron I'd advise go scrap it while you can still get something for it. Just cause I have to put it out there, all the steel that was being bought was not just going to china. Most of it was actually going to the turkey area if my memory serves me correct.
