Im bored once again at work and thought i would see what kinda oil everyone prefers. List whatcha use and if you vary weights from hot to cold months, etc. While your at it, slap in what filter you use with it.

Me= Royal Purple 5W-30 SuperSynth + K&N oil filter (currently using purolater pure one.....parts store was out of K&N's last time i changed the oil) Im thinking about going to one of those lifetime filters that you just unscrew and clean the element and put it back together. My buddy is running one of those on his dragcar, seems to work very very well, and they filter out more than your conventional disposable oil filter. Just my .02

Mobil 1 5w30... Purolator PureOne filter...

change it every 5k miles.

before i get slack for not changing ever 3k like all your hardcore race car drivers out there, my choice to change every 5k is based on the fact that i'm using very good oil, a very good filter, and these oil analysis reports from others with the same setup that show its good for 7000-9000 miles easily.

I only use mobil 1. In the manual for both of the M roadster and m3 it states to only use BMW or Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil. That tells me mobil 1 has to be above the rest.

After the headgasket: Castrol 5w 20

A few days later: Redline full synthetic 10w 30 with 1 quart of castrol 5w 20

Next time I might use castrol non synthetic.

Doesn't matter all that much to me, anymore.

I use to be really anal about all that stuff. Didn't really make all that much of difference. The only thing is I try to use good stuff when I plan on beating the snot out of the motor.

Sometimes I use cheap stuff to flush the motor out.

You can mix and match synthetic with non and it really doesn't make a difference. The oil companies do it, right.

The motor should start up quicker, especially when it's cold. Otherwise you shouldn't notice a difference once it's warm.

And I change my oil every 1000 miles or so on the DSM. Just about the time when the color is starting to change.

The Honda will go 3-4k.

The Saturn will go 7k. That car is going to get traded in a couple years anyway. And my wife drives it real slow so it doesn't matter.

Back from the dead!!

Changing the oil to all three of the vehicles that are sitting next to the house.

Teh Astro: Regular Valvoline 10-30 with a regular fram oil filter

RX7: Switching to Castrol Syntec 20-50 for the warmer temps with a factory oil filter

Talon: Castrol Syntec 10-30 with a bosch filter. Haven't had time to get some factory filters. Probably order some before the next oil change.

For me it was to get rid of the omp lines and injectors. I remember seeing pictures of motors that where pulled apart with the stock 4cycle injection system and you can tell that they where not lubricated well at all. There would only be one shinny spot where the oil was beeing injected into the engine. When they pulled apart a motor running "premix" 2cycle into there gas the whole face of the rotor and apex seal was clean and lubricated.

Cleaned up the motor some
I felt that in ran smoother and revved better
You can switch to Synthetic oils
One less thing that can break and harm your motor
2 cycle burns clean where 4cycle doesn't, leaving more deposits

Its still a big debate on the forums if removing the oil metering pump is more beneficial. Some say it might make it harder to pass emissions testing.

I don't have to worry about passing smog. <--- New Mexico tags

I say do more research on the forums and see if it is right for you

Nothing but mobil 1 in my baby!

I see a lot of people are running different oil filters than the factory. people, think about this, your car manuf. has spent millions on your car that will make it last 100,000 plus miles... don't you think they designed the right oil filter? lol, just my two cents in the thing...

anyone wonder what kind of oil filter i run in my 05 evo now? lol

Amsoil 5W30
OEM filter

+1 on what olsookie said. You can't beat OEM filters for quality and peace of mind-plus they are about the same price as an aftermarket premium oil filter. I worked in the aftermarket for about 6 years and can honestly tell you that I now only use OEM parts on my vehicles. Take Fram as an example for oil filters-they are some of the poorest manufactured and designed filters on the market. The oil filters use a cardboard reinforcement plate instead of steel like most other filters use, and they have a lot less filter media. They are a popular name and that's why they sell well, but in reality are complete crap.

ouch, see a lot of people changing there syntetic oil every 3k... why? waste of money in mho.

Synthetic oil is good for up to like 15k miles... the oil filters are what can't hack it. oil filter change ever 5000 miles, add a quart of oil to the car and your good. change the oil every 2nd or 3rd oil change man... save some dough.

i use to change my oil FILTER in my Eclipse GSX every 7500 miles and add a quart and change the oil every 2nd filter. baby was still running strong at 120k miles when i sold her...

I agree with you in some aspects...but its the way that I personally was taught and also money depends on each individual person. For me its not a big deal changing syn. oil every 2500-3000k. My friend Dave changes his oil with syn. in it every 1000k. Just varies from person to person.
