Does anyone know how long manufactures continue to make parts for their discontinued cars? Links to any creditable site with this info would be greatly appreciated.

I believe they have to make all replacement parts for 10 years from the first date of production, and after that its totally optional. MKIV Supras were first made in 93 so after 03 they have stopped making some parts, and its a big bitch.

Like said before depends on the car how long ago the car was discontinued you could try www.autoanything.com
Or www.originalpartsgroup.com not 100% if that is the correct web site I know that is the name of the company

I thought it was 10 years too.

yeah pretty sure it's 10 years and then after that it's up to the Manufacturer what parts they carry and that most likely goes on how much they are selling.

Really depends on the make and model, and how often they need the parts for customers.

I believe its 10 years as well, but certain places make exceptions. Mazda is about to stop producing 3rd gen rx-7 parts soon. I'm scared!

Hes talking about the Acura RSX. Basically his GF wants one but her dad says no because his theory is "the car is doscontiniued, you will never find replacement parts for it"

Funny, I know.

parts for that car are going to be available for a long time...

its really nothing to be concerned about unless you've got a limited production car with special parts on it.

my car for instance... limited production... but mostly neon parts, not a big deal to find parts for it 10 years from now... hell, the engine is mass produced in mexico, and the trans is from a truck in europe... won't be an issue.

an RSX... you've got at least 10-15 years to be able to find parts easily. You do realize that Napa has a vortex in the back room where they can pull any part for any vehicle right?

That car was only discontinued what? 2-3 years ago???? Im sure parts are WIDELY available for it still.

Also, doesn't it share a lot of parts from the Civic's of that generation?

parts for the mr2 were on their way out for a while but the mr2 community stepped up and now there's a couple different toyota dealerships in the country that are top sellers for mr2 parts because of it.

Farther proves the point that Honda's are nearly like legos.

The MR2 was also discontinued a WHILE ago, where as the car in question, MAYBE 2-3 years.

this is how it was for the 300zx, parts started getting discontinued but you can get pretty much anything now through a dealership in texas courtesy nissan.

If the real reason for this thread is because some girls dad won't let her get a 3 year old car because the parts may be discontinued thats ridiculous. they wouldn't sell used cars if that was the case haha

lulz. are you ****ting me? Parts for that car will be available until like 2050. its not even an issue to get parts for ef civics yet. old preludes are sometimes a little difficult to find parts for, but thats about it. plus, as someone else said, hondas are like legos and the engines are used in a wide variety of models so engine parts will be around as well. Also, has her dad ever heard of aftermarket parts(no, not upgrades, just parts made to oe spec by a non oe source).

It also depends on what you are looking for. For example, I was able to order most of the coolant lines and water pipe for a 200SX SE-R (1996). However, some of the vacuum lines were no longer available from Nissan.

Other manufacturers may be like that as well. Smaller parts that are less likely to fail will have a lower demand and will probably disappear sooner.

i look at it like this....if my dad could rebuild a 1966 mustang using parts like hoods and the what not from just ordering thru magazines (he doesnt have the net), you probally wont ever truly have a car they "stop making parts for" maybe OEM parts, but never parts in general.
