Assault187 AKA Dsm2gnick's Member journal!

This is my 97 eclipse GST spyder.

Some back-story about the car... 2/2004

Ever since the 2GB body style dropped in 1997 it had been my dream car... It's no Lamborghini but it made a huge impression on me at a young age with its timeless body style and aggressive stance. At the time I knew very little about turbo engines but picked up a bit when my brother bought a dodge spirit turbo, I learned as much as I could. When I was finally old enough to work a full time job, I saved EVERY penney to save up and buy this car. I would read in magazines how people were modifying their cars including the DSM's and I knew I wanted to be a part of that crowd. Then, one day a friend (Jim) from high school spots me at a WaWa and we were talking. I ask "what are you driving now?" He pointed over to the eclipse and said "that"...I was soo envious... We walked over as he was telling me a bit about it, claiming tons of HP and tons of mods. I asked him to pop the hood and we look around. My friend claimed it was twin turbo and he was going to add more stuff on it including a crank and cams (Was not twin turbo...) That night, like every other night, I was back to searching for my own. I was prepared to spend around $8,000-$10,000 for the 97-99 COUPE. That seemed to be the going price for them at the time in decent shape.

On a cool march night I found myself sitting in a parking lot, imagining IF I had the eclipse.. I was already working on my project long before it was a reality. The second I pop out of my day dreaming I get a call from my buddy Mike. He called to say that Jim's car was being sold. Supposedly a street race with a mustang had claimed the stock 7 bolt engine.. I asked how much the car was going to be sold for, he replied $4k. I doubted him and asked a hundred times if he was serious.. That was quite a bit under value and I had saved $3,600 so far.....I told him the car was mine and to tell Jim I would give him the cash that night. We still had to wait for a local shop to stick a replacement in for the beat engine. This gave me enough time to come up with the extra $400 to buy the car. He came to my house in the car and let me test drive it, I was soo excited that the car would be mine. We get back to my house and I hand him $4000 cash but I still had to wait another week for the car so his dad had the time to sign everything over. I barely slept that whole week! The day came to sign it over, It wasn't the coupe I was originally set out for but it was just as sexy, a bit different, and I got it for a STEAL!
I now owned my 1ST car. Now to make it mine..

I owned the car for a couple of months.. I had tons of ideas of what I wanted to to but, replacing the stock T-25 turbo came a bit sooner than expected. I was a car audio enthusiast who would spend some free time over at a local shop called Good Vibrations Auto Salon. It was there where I met 2 good friends, Carl and Steve, who took the time to lead me in the right direction. Fortunately for me, they were also both DSM guys. They set me up with a Garrett T04-b V-trim turbo, RC 550cc Injectors, the ORIGINAL AEM UEGO Wideband, and a SAFCII. After the parts were installed, Carl helped me put a baseline tune on the car. Carl and Steve gave me the basic understanding of tuning. I learned everything I could and ran with it. With the new turbo upgrade, it didn't take long to heat-soak the stock Side mount intercooler so soon after I picked up a GReddy FMIC and installed it on the car. The car felt like a rocket ship and ran great with the new parts! The car sat around 280-300 hp @25psi

Soon after I was preparing to attend a car meet at Good Vibrations. As I was driving around and the clutch pedal dropped to the floor...I managed to get it to a parking lot to get clutch fluid and drove it home. When I got home, I found a tiny hole in the clutch hard line. I picked up a new length of line, bent it up and threw it in. Afterwards, I back out of my driveway, throw it in 1st, rev out, drop 2nd and BANG.... The trans exploded... Well, that was on the list somewhere anyway... I arrived at the Good Vibrations DSM meet with my car on a flatbed, unloaded it, then got with Carl about finding a trans. Carl let me use the shop to pull the trans out of the of the car, I had no idea what I was doing but got it done. I ended up having a trans fully built by JNZ Tuning with LSD. 5 or 6 months later I had the car back and nearly teared when I 1st drove it again.

About a year later, following many races, the engine developed a rod knock. I pulled into a gas station and the car stalled. I thought, Ok, I'll let it cool down, check the oil and go from there thinking I could baby it home. I started the car 20 min later and the knock was LOUD, I rev'd the motor to 3,000 rpm then it seized. That's alright, that was on the list somewhere, too. Can't expect a salvaged replacement 7 bolt to last too long. The Next day I pulled the engine out. I sourced a 92 running 6 bolt for $300 from a guy 3 hours away. That's a deal! So some friends, my brother and I loaded up in my brothers work van and rolled out. Upon getting there, the guy starts the engine to verify, we pulled the engine from the car, loaded up and made our way back. When arriving back, I was tempted to just get it in the car but my goals suggested a different route. At that point I didn't feel I had the experience and knowledge to build a motor myself so I sent it out for a ross/eagle setup (its not what i recieved though). After A LOT of frustration I got the motor back, freshened up the bay, dropped the motor in and wired it up for the 6 bolt swap. With the help of DSMLink, I got a much better understanding of tuning.

A short while later @25psi the Garrett T04b turbo came apart. That's when I found my next crush, The Holset HX-40pro. I then threw in HKS 272 cams, an FP exhaust maniold, JMFabrications Sheet metal intake manifold, and rc1000cc injectors. It was then I was starting to realize the cars limits on pump gas. After I couldn't get past knock/ detonation @ 25 psi, I picked up a Coolingmist methanol injection kit then cranked the boost to 30psi. As I learned more, the car continued to get more powerful and continued to change. The car made 427 hp at this point.

The engine that I had professionally built had burned a significant amount of oil ever since the day I put it in. A long story short, there was a mix up at the shop and I received a "race" engine with huge ring gaps. After spending a ton of money on oil, sick of the issues, and tired of dealing with it, I pulled the motor to do a tear down diagnosis and step up for my next few goals. That's where this build thread begins... A slight bit of history and on to the newer stuff.

Here are the pics from only my most recent project (winter 08) 'till now. If I can find the pics of the past, I'll post them up!

WHY? After having the bottom end assembled by a reputable DSM shop, it burned MASS amounts of oil. Not even 2 years later from installing the motor I said enough was enough! I did one last burnout then parked it.... Here it goes...

Dam, so this is why no BBQ for you huh. It looks real good though so far.. First couple pics I was thinking "man he needs to clean that bay up" good stuff.. and if you do the AWD conversion on this this car will be 10 times the sickness.

Keep it up

lol yea, I really wanted to make the BBQ too but I couldnt let it go on any longer, Engine oil just skyrocketed and I was spending too much on it to begin with.

I used to get the 5 quart bottle of mobile 1 for $21 ....Now its a 4 quart bottle for $26, unbelievable.

Thanks for the compliment!

I would use something a lil more accurate then that digital caliper to measure your bores. Esspecially if u plan on staying .020 oversize and just running those, or different pistons.

That was only for reference so I know if the block I have is the block I should have recieved. After finding the Crower rods that I didnt pay for (I supplied Eagle rods) I started to think they had givin me someone elses block. The block and rotating assembly is going over to your guy Greg to be checked, decked, cleaned and have everything balanced with the new crank.

You definitely want to measure the entirety of the bore, especially with that piston scarring. I wouldn't doubt those cylinders are out of round a bit.

What you mean by cut? I'm an idiot.

assault187
10-17-2008, 01:30 PM
I rev to 9000 rpm...

Well, When a crank is scored you can Micro-polish it to a super smooth finish again, but if the scoring is a bit too deep for the micro-polish then you can have it cut and they'll shave .010 off the sufaces. When using a cut crank, you have to use different sized bearing and the longevity of the crank is decreased from the cut taking off its resistant layer.

I started with the rust spots and sprayed some rust disolver (it actually works) then sanded and sanded untill all rust was gone. I started using 120 grit sand paper, then moved to 300 grit, Cleaned and wiped down with alcohol then sprayed a few coats of primer. I then sanded all primed sufaces with 600 grit sandpaper, cleaned and wiped down with alcohol, then layed some paint. Rite now the painted sufaces feel a bit rough, not as smooth as I would like it to be so im going to see how smooth I can get it with 1000 grit sandpaper.

Looking good nick! I just recieved an interesting pm....matt (97turbodsm) still has his dsmlink and offered it to me.......what do you think???? I want it sooooo bad. The only thing that sucks is that i'd have to invest in a eprom...but i saw one on dsmtalk already socketed for 250 which is kinda a lot...but this could be fate, it was meant for me lol

How much is he selling the DSMLink for? If its a good price, Go for it! You can find the 95 e-prom ecu's for around $150-$250...I pick them up at junkyards for $15 and sell for $200  I think you should pick it up! Get used to the tuning propertys of the V2, rather then the soon to be here V3 which will be a bit more of a learning curve and may be a bit too much for somone who doesnt have much experiance with the many different variables. V2 is easy to learn, easy to use, and proven to make power. What are you using now? Apexi SAFC or somthing?

yep....safc. Thats why i didn't gain to much power on the dyno. Tuning your fuel curve isn't the greatest way to make power on our cars....its all about timing. I'm seriously considering it. If it was 5 months ago i would have bought it without thinking about it. Now with xmas coming up, all of my bills and whatnot, the timing kinda sucks

I love the fuse box relocation thats sick I'm definitely doing it the next time my motor comes out which I'm sure i'll be building myself at this point with all of the stories i've been hearing. I'll have to stay up on this thread and stop in when you guys are wrenching. Good luck, seeing your car is what keeps me motivated to push through and get it done!

Anytime...Im always available to kick some knowledge and help out.

Depending when I get my stuff back from the machine shop, I should have the entire motor assembled within 24 hours. I will most likely be waiting for my JMF Drag mani and my turbo, mani, and 02 housing from a friend of mine. We made a deal when I put the car down and he popped his turbo that I would let him use my setup untill I needed it back and he would make me a 1 off JMF Drag SMIM while he's waiting for a Tial 35R

I'll have plenty of pics from the build to post!

Some History....
I have had the car for 5 years now, I recieved it bone stock with an exhaust and a upper IC pipe. I picked it up from a freind of mine for $4000 cash with full intentions of building what I have always wanted. Ever since 1997 when Mitsu dropped the 2Gb body style, I fell in love, It was my dream car.

Popped the t-25 and picked up a Garrett T04B V-trim, Apexi SAFC II, and rc 550's from GVAutosport.com (Good Vibrations)

Picked up the GReddy type 24 FMIC
I developed a leak in my clutch line from the upper IC pipe rubbing on it, Fixed it, took it out, dropped 2nd gear and my trans exploded....The sound from and thereafter are indescribable!

Next was a full on trans build "Bullet proof" with all the tricks

Folowing 5 races within only a few min. on a summer night My engine developed a knock....I rolled into a gas station where my rod bearing spun and siezed the motor, I couldnt help but smile

Motor build #1 took place. 6 Bolt swap, New everything with rods and pistons, stock 2g head. 1000cc RC injectors, DSMLink and some other goodies

1G built head, 272's crower S&R, ferrea 1mm oversized valves

Many things were left out but, Now then 2nd build...

So Clean Nick!

I've always loved your car. As far as the process goes, you live and learn I guess. But it seems to me like you made out, supplying Eagle Rods, and having Crower's Installed in the block. Once it goes back together, it should be quite a monster once again.

What has become of the AWD swap?

assault187
11-22-2008, 03:04 AM
Yea, Live and learn....Cost me alot of money, frustration, and headaches though. I basically paid for the rods in the cost of oil... But it was a nice suprise.
My AWD funds were raped due to some family financial problems but I still plan on doing it before it gets warm though. Whats the deal with your car?

This car took one hell of a hit in the back passenger side rear. This could be a body shops attempt to repair a broken bolt....weld another to it.

It almost looks like the one bolt is the shorter FWD bolt and someone had welded another onto it so it could be used for the AWD bolt. This has me baffled... could this be a manufaturer fix? There is no evidence what so ever of that sheet metal being cut and welded back down or the bolt support that keeps that bolt from spinning.......????????....

Im guessing you'll win. If I cant feel my hands within the 1st 5 minutes of touching my tools, i'll wait for another day. I did this saturday into saturday night which is why I didnt make it out for ya.

you are truly a madman nick!!! Doing all of this NOT in a garage.

I was going to build a garage or atleast have an outdoor lift installed but like everyone else, money has been tight.

Unfortunatly for me, I choose to do all my work during the winters without a garage.... I have no idea why but I always get it all done. This year is going to be tough to get done by my deadline, I still have so much to get done! I have to finish the swap, build my motor, finalize the fusebox relocation, make my fresh engine harness, and soooo much more.....

My goal is to finish by March 27th-30th and be up and running with no loose ends or issues.

I've noticed alot of DSM guys on the forums commenting on how there are no REAL 4g63t motor build videos and they want to see one, a detailed "how-to" and whats what when building this motor. There are honda build videos and such but still no dsm ones for reference when building. Which tools to use, which parts, and most importantly the specs and tolerances to abide by when building a performance 4G63. I figured since im about to put mine togather, I may do a miniscule part for the current dsm community and put togather a video, im still undecided on the matter though. I searched myself and didnt find anything credible for a dsm...If this turns out to be just one more build video, oh well, Knowledge is power...Literally.

Please keep the comments constructive! Do you guys want to see a detailed build video? Feel free to sway my decision.

I always enjoy seeing new resources made and posted.

It's a great thing to see someone who is at the beginning afraid to change their oil move onto things like building engines and tuning themselves, it's made possible by people willing to put the time aside to make videos and build threads such as these. The DSM owners are one of the best for this, coming in with basic skills and learning to build street terrors from scratch. I enjoy helping people get to this level.

I wish I had documented my latest build more completely, it's so much easier if you have someone to follow you around with a camera rather than stop at every step, peel a barely used set of gloves off, or wipe the assembly lube from your hands to take a picture and write a note. Maybe I'll do a ultra detailed aluminum rod shortblock build when I get home, I need to put my spare together.

As doe the build video, if you have the time on your hands then do. Everyone will critic everything your doing though, guaranteed. There are plenty of vids on blue printing everything right now online and what not. If someone opened up a motor before, they should know pretty much what they are doing.

I could really care less of how people critic the video, its no different then how they critic you as a person or your car, Someone is always going to know somthing you dont or do somthing differently and say its better. I've seen quite a few people crack open a motor, put it back togather, and see it fail a few hundred miles later or never run again after the rebuild. I have also seen a professional build a motor that burned MASS amounts of oil where the rings were gapped more the double of what they should have been, and 20 over pistons in a 30 over block, how's that for Piston To Wall Clearance?....

So basically what your saying is, waste the time if you have time to waste but its unnecessary?..

I'll just say this:

Where would we, as DSMers, be without Vfaq, plymouthlaser.com, and the Talon Digest?

Answer: Nowhere. People like you, and the people before you and me, are the people that set stones in the path for us up-and-comers to be able to keep the DSM moniker alive. Even if you just did it in, say, 5 five-minute videos on simple how to's or before/after's (think block pre-machined, post machined, and what they did while machining), I think that would work great. Plus, that way you'd know what you were getting into. Anybody can take parts to a shop and say "Put this together, and eliminate the balance shafts while you're down there" but I think if you were able to illustrate where on the engine the BS's were, and then then explain the dangers of having that old belt on there or whatever, I think we could expect more longevity out of the scene, less ripped off kids, and a more educated populace, which would be totally awesome on all fronts. Or you could go all out and do an assembly vid as a video journal type of thing, which would be totally awesome for everyone involved. I know I'd like to see it.

Cliffs, do it.

I started a video, went to review it and noticed you couldnt hear a single word I said, the audio was horrible so I aborted the vid. My girl took some pics though that i'll post up. Still have my friends motor to assemble and also my brothers stroker from start to finish including machining, B/S removal. I plan on doing both with his video camera which is a decent camera so both should come out pretty good. It will be a 2-4 weeks before I get one togather though but it should be worth it. In the mean time i'll post the pics I have and explain whats going on.

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics022.jpg
Lets get started...

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics024.jpg
Get your bearing out (im using ACL Race bearings) and clean them, they have a coating that you can remove with some carb cleaner and a rag or you can polish them with a scuffy pad untill they loose the gloss

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics027.jpg
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/DSCN0948.jpg
checking the clearance and specs for the crank.
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics026.jpg
ARP main studs and head studs only thread in finger tight, If they dont thread in properly with the stregth of your fingers its a good idea to chase the threads out so there clean

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics032.jpg
Mic'n the pistons. Wesico recomends to measure the pistons 1.300" from the oil ring land. Im using Wesico 1400 HD pistons .040 over
Each piston mic'd to exactly 3.382"

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics030.jpg
Measuring the cylinder bores. You want to measure on both axis from top to bottom of the cylinder, by doing this you will know if the cylinder is out of round and if it is you'll know by how much. Measure the cylinder walls with a dial bore gauge then subtract the value of the piston for that cylinder to achieve you PTW piston to wall clearance. My PTW clearance was .003", these wesico pistons have a coating on the skirt which is .0005" thick which brings my PTW clearance to exactly .0035" which is exactly what wesico recomends. My cylinder walls were 3.385" across exactly - 3.382" (piston size) = .003 " - .0005" for the coating = .0035" rite on point
More with video....

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics045.jpg
The black logo is the skirt coating

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/DSCN0930.jpg
moving on to the block again, thread in the main studs and torque down the main caps to the block. Use your dial bore gauge to get the internal diameter of the sadles, subtract the value you got for that respective crank journal then subtract the thickness of the bearing and you will have your crank clearances. Mic out the bearings, then double it (for both sides)

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics121.jpg
Clean the bearings up and throw them in the sadles, Notice that the grooved bearings go on the block side and the smooth bearings go on the "suit case handles" or caps

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/DSCN0932.jpg
cap bearings

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/DSCN0935.jpg
Then I removed the main caps, inserted the crank, and used Plasti-gauge to double check the clearances
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/DSCN0933.jpg
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/DSCN0936.jpg
throw caps one at a time, torque to spec (do not rotate crank) 60ft/lbs 20-40-60 release cap and check the crush with the plasti-gauge gauge

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/DSCN0934.jpg
remove crank and lube em up. I used Lucas engine assembly lube

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics070.jpg
Torque crank to spec. ARP spec is 60 ft/lbs ....I dont have a streatch gauge

assault187
01-26-2009, 10:48 PM
Back to the pistons...

Before proceeding, check the rod clearance the same way you did with the crank.

For gapping the rings, I picked up this piston ring squarring tool from Summit racing
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics034.jpg

And this piston ring grinder
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics040.jpg

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics035.jpg

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics042.jpg
square the top ring up in the cylinder and see where your at with a feeler gauge.

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics060.jpg
Grind the ring down to reach your desired ring gap. Be patient, this is a time consuming process. The bottom ring is usaully made out of a different material that will grind away alot quicker then the top ring so be carefull. You want to grind the ring as straight as possible. My ring gap for the top rings were .018" and .020 for the bottom ring, I gave an extra .001" for the higher boost the motor will see

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics064.jpg
Once your rings are gapped, throw them on the pistons
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics066.jpg

You should be keeping trackof whats going on here....
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics139.jpg

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics096.jpg
Next, lube the piston, rings, and cylinder with conventional non detergent oil (do not use synthetic oil). Compress the rings in a piston ring compressor so they can be installed in the cylinders

If you are installing the pistons to the rods, keep in mind that the pistons are directional. Some pistons, like Wesico are designed with the same piston offset as the factory pistons which have to be installed in the opposite of the crank direction. Some You can determine the direction of the piston by looking at the indentations, the larger valve pockets will be for the intake side. The wesicos valve pockets seem to be the same size but they do have a marking that will face towards the front of the engine (Timing side)

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics082.jpg
True the compressor with the deck surface and gently tap the piston into its cylinder, rotate the crank to its bottom dead center position so you dont accidentally nic the crank surface.

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/nicolebuildpics068.jpg
Pull the rod down untill it meets the crank, grab your rod cap and torque to spec with the plasti-gauge to double check the clearance. If all checks out well, lube the bearings and torque to spec. Crower recomends 50ft/lbs in 2 stages for these steel rods (once again, I dont have a stretch gauge) These rods in paticular have both bearing "tangs" on one side some other rods have one on oposite sides. Dont forget to put assembly lube on the rod bolts for accurate torque readings

http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/DSCN0941.jpg
At this point, check your rod side clearance with your feeler gauges, you wanna be between .004" and .010" closer to .010" the better, but if you have excessive clearance here, move parts around untill you find what you need. If its too tight, you can send the rods out to your machine shop to have them thinned a tiny bit
Also check your crankshaft thrust clearance which should fall in between .002 - .0098...optimum is between .005-.006
http://i480.photobucket.com/albums/rr162/dsm2gnick/DSCN0942.jpg
Rotate the crank by hand (I did when I torqued the crank, and after each rod) to make sure there is no binding and it rotates smoothly
If your machinest removed the block to head dowel pins you must replace them. They keep the head steady and prevent head gasket failure from the head shifting. These can be picked up through ExtremePSI.com

More to come......

LSD came standard of the 95-96 gsx's but not the talons...for the other years it became an option to have an LSD diff or an open diff. Usually with LSD you will notice a tag stating LSD on the rear and a sticker on the driver door sill

oversteer. i took an exit for a rest stop (very suttle bend) when i first finished the car and i felt like the car was about to spin around and crash into the divider. it's 10 times worse on wet roads.

Check for some picture updates on page 8

Updates:

Shep stage 4 is here, the build sheet differs a bit from what I wanted but shep assures my it has the options that I ordered but we'll see when I check the diff installed.

Head is back from the machine shop

Head assembled

Head installed on block using my super fresh Fel-pro race gasket

AND...I'm taking the rear out of the car, taking the rear out of another car, installing my rear in other car then installing the other cars rear in my car lol. The whole reason I did the swap was because the lack of traction....im not about to settle for an open diff over LSD.

Needless to say....I have a very busy weekend if you know whats going threw my mind...

I've been feeding the Holset off the head for years and never had any issues so I saw no reason to switch the location. I also thought it would be a better idea to feed off the head for the lower oil pressure although I run a restrictor.

The reason I ask is because the early production AWD 95's have larger rear brakes then the later 95-99, and i'm having a bit of trouble finding aftermarket pads for the rears...

They're different too, I even removed them to bring them with me while looking for pads and the pads are a good bit larger then normal as well as the rotors.

Well, I started the car tonight after a loooooong and very tedious 7 months! The motor runs smooth, trans feels phenomenal, no noises from the motor, trans, t-case or rear, and absoulutly no fluid leaks what so ever. I was soooo nervous to crank it over considering the huge amount of work I did since it last ran but it fired rite up within 2 seconds after priming the motor.

The only issues I have to work out are adjusting the clutch pedal a bit, adjusting idle, adjust suspension and trouble shoot my fuel level gauge, other then that the car is a dream so far.

Its late, im tired, and my nerves are shot so i'll have to post pics and video later.

Did you ever end up getting the right set of rear pads/rotors? I also have a 95 with vented rear brakes. Production date 5/94. I'm looking for a good place to pick up new pads and rotors. They are different, had a friend put in non vented rear pads into a vented setup. 5 miles later the rear pads fell out the bracket onto the ground a stop sign. HA.

I couldnt locate any performance pads for the rears but suprisingly Pep-Boys had the pads in stock...Just make sure you bring a pad with you to compare when buying. They didnt have anything special, apparently they dont offer these pads in metallic or ceramic so i'll roll with these untill I can find somthing better.

Thanks! I was soo nervous I was shaking. Some of my friends that came over for the start-up were being ass hats and taking bets if it was going to start, they all voted in my favor but it just added to the torture before starting

I have a stupd question but do you know if a shifter from a 1g would work in my 2g? Mine came with some crappy short shifter and i want a stock one. I know someone with one but its a pretty far drive and i want to know before i go.

Fuel level problem is most likely the sending unit.

No, the 1g shifter assembly will not work in a 2g due to different designs. People give them away for free after they install a short shifter usually, otherwise im sure you can pick one up from a yard for cheap.

congrats home slice.

Thanks Matt!
