they can pull you over for just about any tint that is not factory, but you can't fail inspection for it

well you can fail for the windshield....but you can get a ticket for any window on a coupe or a sedan...the way most cops go is they want to see in...

yeah its basically up to the officer....usually small quiet towns are where they have nothing better to do theyll bother you for it....only my township in my area bothers you...everywhere else around me they dont care.

like many have said it depends on the area. also it depends on the type of vehicle (ie car, truck or suv). all have their own tint laws. not sure on the state requirements as i forget. i have 15% on my car and dont have any problems

i have 20% got a $108 ticket last year. "legal tint" is 75% in PA but no one will pull you over just don't drive through whitpain township with your windows up at the end of the month
i've heard that's it 30% and i've heard that it's completely illegal. I'm going to go with Shades of Gray on this one. It's probably based on the cops digression.

some cops dont even understand the law because its very convoluted. basically, you can go as dark as you want on the back of an suv, cross over, mini van or truck. you can have NO TINT on the front 2 windows of those vehicles darker than 70%. (which is almost what the factory is). As far as sedans or coupes, you cant have ANY TINT on ANY WINDOW darker than 70%. BUT you CANNOT fail inspection for tint other than the windshield itself. SO if you put tint on a car or on the fronts of a truck/suv, you can get a ticket depending on where you are driving in the state of PA. You CANNOT get a ticket if you are registered in another state, you can only get a ticket from the state you are registered in for tint. Most cops dont care to much about tint as long as it isnt blacked out, but some townships(blue bell, warrington, upper moreland, warminster, ivyland, jamison and a few others) are ball busters..

I know it's been said before but my personal story: I had a '92 Dodge Dakota. I purchased it with the front door windows and rear windshield tinted. I'd guess 35% or something pretty dark. I drove around for 2 years like that. I had sat next to countless state, local and other police officers and never had an issue. The week I was selling it I got pulled over in Uwchland Township. I had 10 days to remove it and show it to the officer. It was a major pain in the butt and almost cost me the sale of the truck. But good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I *knock on wood* have not been pulled over with my tint yet, and I drive everywhere lol....
I have been pulled over, but I have not had any inquiries on my tint at all. Not even a slight mention... its weird... lol

yeah stock windows are usually already at 70% so nothing on the fronts is technically legal....like was said stay away from small towns with nothing better to do...sucks living in the only place that bothers me for them.

Even though this may be pointless since you've already stated you plan to move to Levittown, I'll throw it in here anyway.
I've never heard of anyone in Philly being pulled over strictly for tint. However, if you're pulled over for another reason ecpect a ticket for tint, as well.

I was pulled over right out front of my parent's house in Levittown at night and the cop didnt say a word about my tint. Albeit, its only 30% so its not very dark. I don't think you'll really have a problem unless your car stands out a lot as it is or something.

Everything I've researched makes it seem like the DMV recommends 70% as the legal limit but that's not how the law is written. The law is written as basically they have to be able to see in, so anyting 20% or lighter really should be legal. What it comes down to is the officer's discretion. I got pulled over once and the cop said to me "there's a lot of things wrong with this car." He pointed out my tint (I showed him a copy of my application for a medical exemption, signed by an optomitrist and he said it looked fake...), tinted tails, loud exhaust, and blinding chrome wheels. All that said he didn't give me any tickets because I was straight up with him and acted friendly. Just don't be a dick and you'll be fine as long as the cop isn't having a bad day.

haha i've been pulled over twice now by the same cop in fogelsville and both times he bitched about my tint i guess a bright blue wrx with 15% stands out a bit but i never drive like a douche bag like alot of these kids said depends on the cop and their quota!

I get pulled over every other week right in front of my place. Never a ticket, its just an excuse to pull me over to check for DUI. I live across from a bar and a block from a police station, so it's probably never gonna stop.
