Take it out, pull out the bowl from the bottom, clean the jets and make sure the floaats move freely, then adjust as necessary..Sounds like an awesome bikes, I LOVE 80's!!lol

Do I need too take the jets off too clean? Should I buy carb cleaner?
The bike is really fast for an 85, Fully done up, And sounds amazing.

Ive had mannnny quads and dirt bikes.. Love two stroke. First bike was a rm80 last was a trx250r that i sold about 5 months ago.
Just like mentioned by petey pull the carb out and check the float, etc.
Take the bowl off (the bottom). If black gas poors out then yeah you have a dirty carb or one that has been sitting for a awhile with gas in it. Check the float and make sure its moving freely and not sticking (prob not cause you mention the bikes running and not flooding and that your power band has gone). Un-screw each jet and blow air threw them with airgun. If you dont have an air gun use the wire from a twist tie (or something as thin) and clean them out. Be carefull not to scratch the insides of the jet with the wire. Then soak the jets in carb cleaner and spray the inside of the carb while everythings out. re-assemble.
If this doesnt do it then it could be electrical (I had this problem on my KX125). Get an OHM meter and check your CDI. water or something could of messed it up. Also check your stators Voltage. Im not sure on the spec's but they can be found online.
If you do all of the above and still no power band check your compression. You may need a rebuild.
Also not sure on the 85's but are they powervalve? if so your powervalve may be sticking closed.
