View Full Version : How often do you guys think about selling your cars for something else?

Personally, it enters my mind every now and then. Recently, Ive been thinking about getting an sc300. My problem is I like too many cars. Don't get me wrong I love my 240, I guess too much since Ive never really taken the giant leap of putting it up for sale, except one time. Sometimes I try to convince myself into taking out a loan for something out of my budget but the idea gets trashed way too fast when I think about insurance, payments, and all the other crap I want to do with my money.

I think about selling my 72 cutlass every once in a while. I don't really drive it very much anymore (can't remember the last time actually..) and it just kinda sits around. I guess my tastes just have changed and now that I have this 240z, its all that I can think about. I like the cutlass going straight, but anything other then that is awful. I wanna make this 240z into a track/daily so I have something that handles like crazy as well as the rest of the good stuff.

Another car I cant get outta my head. I still want a Z so bad, that was the main reason I put up the 240sx for sale last time lol.

Lol, they are SO much fun, but the 240sx is too. Its kinda just a preferance, do you prefer the new car feel or something that makes you drive it? Even stock they are fun to drive, I can't wait to get some sort of suspension on it and some better wheels/tires. I think i'll be keeping the L24 for awhile, but at some point I would like to swap in an L28ET from the 280zx turbo.

Never. My dad thought when I bought the car I'd get rid of it in a few years. Almost 8 years later still have it and will never part with it. Plus were only around 12k made so why buy something not as rare.

With previous cars I would think about it alot. With the wrx though I can say only a couple times in the 2 1/2 years since I bought it. I was thinking about trading it in when I found out my trans was going to go at some point. At that time I was thinking of an EVO. Then back in Feb I almost traded it in on a BMW 135 but I was having second thoughts when my tranny did die. I dropped in enough money then that now I just save up for a new engine block and parts because I decided to keep it for as long as I can.

The thought, in all honesty, has never passed my mind in reguards to the Civic. 3 year long relationship and the only thing I want to do with it is make it faster. I don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon.

weekly, but only for the daily driver which i'd love to swap out for something super economical on gas.
the toys... nah. i've said i'd sell the subie if someone was really interested in paying a lot for it, but i doubt that will happen. otherwise, i'm good. sick of cars too but i'm hoping to be somewhat home free soon enough then i can just chill and enjoy what i've got without spending too much time wrenching.

All the time, love my Teg but after 3 FWD cars (Civ Hatch, MX-6, Teg) Im bored to tears. It's especially tough with so many clean Evos and WRXs around, nevermind the RX-7s that I see creeping around during the summer. It's enough to drive a man crazy!

Pretty much every day. I've had my car for 4 1/2 years and i'm just getting tired of it. I'm at the point now where i just want something economical and easy to drive. I'm almost positive my next car will be an acura TL automatic. I drive stick everyday at work and i'm pretty much sick of it and ready for something different

Same here, Its not that I dont like my car because I love my car but if I'm going to spend the money to beef up the transmission I would rather just get an STi.

i think about trading in or selling the focus at least once a week, just for a daily driver that's a little more fun... and awd for winter. fuel economy and laziness keep me in the focus tho.

i always have ideas running through my head.... i just dumped alot of money into the Z so i'm going to keep it for a while. i would love to put the money from the sale of the Z down on something newer (and faster haha), but payments would not be a good look for me right now

my truck... no... selling that now would be a failure of epic proportions...
the srt-4... i love the car, but i'm ready for something a bit more "adult"
I've also been thinking of looking for a 97-98 viper
The elantra I've been having strong thoughts of selling because it's "done", and while it's fun to drive...eh, I want something a bit more sporty, and AWD.
But the fact all I have to pay for its maintenance and insurance, and the 40-50mpg on the highway is so nice...
The 240, I'm pretty much re-building, kinda wanted to sell it to get more camera stuff, but eh...

when I first got my car and started dumping money into it, it crossed my mind a lot because I had thought it wasn't worth what I was putting myself through to keep it. but I didn't give up and now I love the car to death. It's my baby and she runs so good and is SO much fun to drive. Plus I get 25MPG in the city which is just as good as some new cars coming out... AND my car looks sexy as hell...not like some of the spaceship bubbles out... I have plans to boost in the spring/summer of next year and with so many other things I want to do, there's no use in selling my car since I'm in way too much money already. The only way I'd sell my car is to just buy another MR2.

I have lately thought about trading in my daily driver mustang for something like a jetta. I already have a camaro that is fast enough so why try and bother with something like my mustang. I have a feeling though that I will never go through with it until I can just afford a jetta.

I usually think about selling my truck, but every time I have done that, I usually get low-balled, and I usually tell the potential buyer how much it actually is worth, and they never call back. As stated from TurboTagTeam, I am kind of getting out of cars and modding them. I'm thinking about driving my truck until it just dies on me one day, hopefully not for a long ass time, and just work my ass off and buy an evo or an sti and do nothing to it.

With other cars I've owned this "should I sell/move into something else" question was not uncommon for me. Since I've owned my Supra for the last ~9 years I don't even ask the question and when somebody else brings it up I usually say it will be buried with me...alluding to one of those mythical magical horses that are buried with the honorable warrior when he dies...or my kids will end up fighting over it...since they seem to know that I'm not selling it, once in a while they still say "dad, when you die can we have your Supra?" Having said all this B.S., I can imagine changing my mind under the right circumstances...e.g. lottery hit and purchase of a McLaren F1.
i think about it pretty much daily... well, there's about a week or two leeway right after i buy a new car to the point where I get used to it and it's not as thrilling anymore...

I think about parting out and trading in my xB daily. As crazy as it is, i want a Cadillac DTS. I dont mind footing the bill for gas. My other car is a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis, and thats a hog on gas. I've always liked big cars, and the Scion doesnt fit my needs anymore.

If I had some extra cash lying around to total up to my down payment then tax title and what ever I'd buy one in a heart beat. :)
I think I found out what it was though, so it seems like it would be an easy fix for the mechanic to fix.

I used to think about selling my Maxima all the time. It never really made sense though economically at this point in my life. Then I got a really well-paying summer job and bought a 2nd car I really wanted so I didn't have to sell the Maxima anyway. It was a win-win.

Every other day. The reason I want to get rid of it is because I drive it to much. It gets boring driving the same car 60+ miles a day.
I love my car. It was/is my dream car. I've had it since new. I dont think I would actually sell it, or at least I try and convince myself that.

For my daily, all the time. I drive a Neon SRT-4, and the trannies are junk; Hence the reason why I wouldn't mind having another DD. My Z32, never. I've owned 5 (two twin turbos, three non-turbos), and I love them. They are super reliable, and capable of making massive power with little mods (TT).

I think about selling my car here and there, although I know it would be better to hold off until I own my own house. I'm waiting for the housing market to bottom and I still feel at this point I'd be catching a falling knife for another 10-15% hit over the next 6-9 months. That being said, the only thing that would make me feel otherwise is if someone put out a car that had similar stats to my M3 with 400lbs less weight and not be a domestic or cost upwards of 6 figures. It's a pretty tall order so I think it's safe to say that I'm sticking with what I've got for the near term.

The thought of another Civic or Metro has passed into my head but the thought of my car being paid off, gets 36 mpg on a daily basis, can haul a ton of stuff and has having Recaros probably brings me back. After my Eibachs and rear sway bar going on, i'm throwing my money into buying a nice road bike.

Recently its been the EVO... I'm on the fence about selling it for an X. actually going this saturday to finally test drive teh MR. unless it totally blows my socks off, which I highly doubt it will, I'm not doing anything.
