Thoughts on 2nd gen Ford Probe

I was wondering what everyone thought of a ford probe being a daily driver if the car has been pretty well matenined?? if it is good, or any of the problems that these cars have or are they just junk?? Thanks

I had one. I loved it. I would love to find another one.

You have to have thick skin to own one though, with the whole silly "anal probe" crap. They are fun cars, handle awesome and there is still a huge following with them. and pics??

Ford probe is exactly the same car mechanically speaking as the same year Mazda 626 or Mazda MX6. I had a 626 for a couple years, so I know a bit about them...

If it's been well maintained, that's fine. These things have been known to run well past 150,000 miles on most occasions, however, they have one rather large (and devastating) weak point...

Is it an Automatic or Manual trans? The manuals were great strong transmissions, however the Ford-built automatics in the early-mid 90's were very problematic and it was usually the reason that these cars ended up getting crushed and/or parted out.

So I would say, if it's well cared for an has a manual trans, absolutely go for it.
If it's an automatic, I wouldn't... you'll end up rebuilding the trans before terribly long, I'm sure. the only thing you can do about it is install a trans cooler, which is, at best, just a stall.

i owned 2 mx6's... they are decent cars... not performance monsters but if you leave it stock and treat it well... just like any car.. it will work well for you.

If the car was taken care of they are great daily drivers. Not good for much else. I have owned 7 ford probes in the past and put wayyyy too much money into each of them..including one with corvette taillights and other stupid crap(thus the username) Never again would I make that mistake.

other than that I just dont like them in general to be honest.
