I just think that this is pretty crazy

http://news.yahoo.com/story//ap/20080813/ap_on_fe_st/odd_million_mile_truck

CATAWBA, Wis. – The owner of a 1991 Chevrolet Silverado that's traveled more than 1 million miles is parting with what he affectionately calls his "old girl."

Frank Oresnik said his pickup with 1.03 million miles goes on sale on eBay on Thursday night. The minimum bid is $30,000 and the auction continues for 10 days.

The 58-year-old northern Wisconsin man says he wants his pickup to go to someone who can display it because it is so unique.

He hopes it sells for more than $100,000.

Oresnik attracted national attention in February when he reached the 1 million mile mark while doing a live interview on National Public Radio.

He says the truck has had four radiators, three gas tanks and five transmissions but the engine is still original.

Whats so special about a truck that made it over a million miles? I bet the engine is on its last leg. Give the engine a good beating and all the carbon deposits that are holding the engine together will fall apart and bye bye engine.

wow you guys are haters! lol. seriously think about. How many peoples engines here would last over a million miles?!?! and 350,000 miles is a hell of a lot....but a truck that reached a million miles is an extremely rare thing. Granted, I'm not saying its worth anything near what he wants, I'm just saying the fact is its extremely rare to see a gasoline engine go to that kind of mileage. Plus that thing is mighty clean lol

but where all the engines in those cars completely original, I think it is over priced, but for an engine to run for over 1 million miles and none of the gaskets ever be replaced and the engine to basically be untouched I think its a pretty big deal, a big over priced but worth being noted.

If I pay such money for a truck I would expect it to take a beating. Plus, will that truck even pass emissions? I know of a few 3gen Accords that reached 400k+ and still pass emissions. Doubt that truck will pass.

On his ebay he listed sources for this information. I honestly dont know how credible all that is, but I still think it is pretty bad ass that the truck is running 1 million miles strong.

I am not an idiot. I know the metric system and the standard system pretty damn well. I only work with it everyday of my life, and last time I checked I have the mental capability to tell the difference between the two.

My 2002 chevy avalanche is just about to roll over to 400,000 miles. Orig motor, trans, etc. I had to replace the pass window motor twice, two wheel bearings, brakes, little **** but its still running like a champ. I work the hell out of the truck too pulling cars, boats, bobcats, etc all the time. When I hit a million miles i'll sell it for the low low price of $70,000

Chevy built a good AV here.. now the 2007 escalade on the other hand...3 months into ownership had its motor swapped under warranty and a few other problems fixed.

That is not what I said. I said that if you GIVE it a beating, the engine has a good chance of failing do to the carbon build up holding the rings and everything together.

Now, you say that it already got a beating. Yes, it did, but if you give it some more it will fail. So why buy a Chevy truck for a such a high price only because it went a million miles? The guy paid 20k(around) for that truck when it was new, so how does mileage increase its value?

ehhhh the 350 is a pretty bullet proof motor. Like I said, our 1500 has 350k miles and is beat on CONSTANTLY, as it's a work truck, but still starts on the first crank and runs great.

ItsStetch

lol why the hell would you purposely beat a truck that you know has one million miles on it? thats just retarded. i dont think the guy deserves the money hes asking, thats not what im arguing. im saying the truck has taken a beating merely by being driven that many miles but you dont seem to understand.

So I should treasure the truck just because it went over million miles? Plus, beating on the truck with that many miles would show how durable GM really is, not saying that it is, but a good way to tell. What do you have to lose, another mile?

If an engine is well taken care off, it will last. I know a guy who has 410k on his Honda, and he beats on it everyday and it runs like a champ.

i didnt say that. its obvious the truck can be driven, its gone this far already. How durable GM really is? are you ****in serious. you must be confused or something because for some reason you cant comprehend the fact that this truck, or any other vehicle for that matter has gone 1,000,000 miles. so you would buy it and beat it to see how much longer it will last, christ youre stupid

What will the truck lose if I beat on it. Maybe my understanding of beating is slightly different from yours.

On another note, it also depends on what condition were those miles achieved. Highway miles aren't as rough on an engine as city miles.

HOLY GOD A DOMESTIC THAT LASTED OVER 60k?!?!?!

Wow I'm impressed.

Anyone ever do the math and think about how much it costs to drive that much? With todays gas prices it would cost me around $125,000 to drive another 750,000 miles on my mr2 to make it a million.

True enough.
Good portion of the UPS tractors over 1.5 million miles and this old guy from NH had over a million miles on his MKII diesel Jetta and VW let him have a Touareg....for a week.

So how is his Silverado so special?
