Hey I'm new to tristate, been on other forums for years, looking to branch out! At the moment I own three 2002 WRXs. Two of them run, one is just a body that I'm rebuilding with friends,

Welcome aboard! Tell us a little more about what ya have been up to with the 3 WRXs.

Bought my first WRX in sept 05, it was a UTEC stg 4 02 WRX. I then saved money, and swapped it to an STi block with forged internals, STi pinks, VF22, FMIC, and a Cobb protune, I have my mods listed on this car on the extensive mods page, I'll post these on my personal info soon.

Just this May I got hit when this girl ran a red light. She hit me on the pass side rear panel spinning me around while she spun, and hit my suby on other sides. My rear frame was smashed up pretty bad. So my insur company was going to give me around $13,500; they didn't know about all my mods, but I bought it back for $2,500 and had $10,000 to spend on another suby. My suby was ok, except for body damage, so I bought a friends stock 02 blue WRX for $12,000.

I then bought a blue 2002 WRX chassis completely stripped down, off a guy on here.

So, my plan is to take my parts off my first WRX, engine, wheels, gauges etc. and put them on the WRX I bought for $12,000. Then I will take body parts, interior etc. off my first WRX and put them on the chassis while taking the stock engine and trans out of the second WRX I am currently driving and put that in the chassis as well. So I will end up with two WRXs. I will sell the chassis that I rebuilt after the title gets reconstructed.

I have already taken my TBE, UP, intake, headers, gold wheels and switched my Cobb AP to the WRX I bought for $12,000. This WRX had 75K on it when I bought it, never modded, and had never been in an accident. So it became a COBB Stg 2 almost overnight.

So that's the story on my 3 WRXs, soon to be 2 WRXs. It will be a sad day when I have all the parts off my first WRX, and I'll have to scrap the rest of the beat up chassis :( That was my first WRX, and the one that started it all!

I hope I have not confused anybody

I'm confused where the Cobb AP came from because you said the first one had a Utec lol.

I bought my first WRX and it came with the UTEC uniChip, then I got rid of that and did a block swap to the STi 2.5 block and forged internals, kept the WRX 2.0 heads, but did a valve job on them, then got the Cobb AP for a 2.0 WRX, since I didn't have the money to get STi heads, harness, ecu, etc.

I still have the UTEC if anyone wants it

Just out of curiosity why would you switch from the Utec to the AP? Most people do it the other way around.

The UTEC management was responsible for throwing a rod which blew a hole in my 2.0L short block, right near where it says EJ20, hence the 2.5L upgrade, nuff said!

Cobb was a quick engine management fix when I got the new block. Just needed to bolt on my old parts and then got it protuned for top end speed, b/c I liked the VF22 for that. My Cobb protune blew away every tune I had on the old UTEC, not just from a speed standpoint, but the smoothness of the TQ curve felt like stock. The top end speed was ridiculous, killed my friends brand new 07 STi limited Cobb Stg 2, we raced from pull, I was in third, he, fourth, we were dead even at first, but once I hit the upper end of fourth gear I pulled away like a rape ape, then in 5th I was gone.

I had also beat M3s, S4s, and a big ass BMW 7 series, all top end speed above 120mph.

Most people will tell you the VF22 is outdated, and with the horrible lag, it is, but no other IHI turbos; except for the JDM twin scrolls, offer better top end, in that respect it is not outdated!

Sorry to get off on a rant, but I miss the old set-up, that girl had to total my car :bigeek:

Will get them up soon!

The engine management system isn't what blew it up, it was the tune on there. UTEC, when tuned properly, will make an engine run 100x better than any accessport.

I'm sorry, by saying the management system, I meant the tune that was on it, which was aggressive at the time, but I only had 42K on the engine, and I kept it in superb shape. So I attribute the problem to UTEC.

And yes a tuned UTEC is way better than any OTS Cobb Map, but I had mine protuned, which I felt was better than any UTEC tune I had ever had.
Not trying to turn this into Cobb VS UTEC, but I feel that Cobb tuning is way more reliable, and consistent than UTEC is. Just my opinion, since I've had both.

You can by the one I'm rebuilding with my suby buddies, as long as you don't mind a reconstructed title. It should be a nice little set-up a 2.0L with at least an 18G, RA gears on a WRX 5spd, as well as an ACT street disc & flywheel, 750cc injectors, walbro, big TMIC, or if I can find a good used FMIC for cheap, I'd use that, turboback, UP, headers, tune/reflash, wanna keep it around the 350AWHP & TQ range and keep the trans reliable.

So you wanna buy this set up it for around $18K :)

Wasn't trying to turn this into C vs. U just curious because to be honest your opinion kind of goes against everything I have ever seen, heard, or personally excperienced so I just wanted to know the reasoning. Can never argue against a bad excperience and if the Cobb is working for you awesome.
