I'm buying my first DSLR tomorrow, and would like to make good use of it, but it would be great if someone showed me how and why since my previous experience is limited to point and shoot. I greatly appreciate help on this.

Thanks.

personally i found it much more helpful to do some reading and just mess with it myself instead of having someone show me how the camera works. what camera are you picking up?

there are some stickies in the photography section with links to some of the basics... you've got to focus on the basics first if you ever expect to be decent. also read your manual cover to cover and make sure you understand everything in it, even if you have to google some of it.
believe me... focus on that stuff first and it will pay off.

Rebel XT is what I'm picking up. The price was right and I wanted someting like this for a while. Thanks Troll, I'll make sure to read the stickies there.
