What do I do with really old gas that's been sitting in my MR2's tank for a long while now? I wanna drain all the fluids and I know I can manage the oil easily just like usual but I don't know what to do with the gas. How can I safely get rid of it? Does anyone want it?

call your township, they will tell you how to get rid of it.

im not positive about this, but maybe you can drop it off like you do with oil at a shop that does PA inspections.

most shops will not accept waste antifreeze and gas because they have to pay someone to take it away. its not like oil. shops either have a waste oil heater that burns the waste oil (that why oil changes are dirt cheap in the winter), or an outside company actually buys the waste oil. your township probably has a set day every month where they accept hazardous chemicals like gasoline, batteries, boat paint and stuff like that.

Drain it and use it in your lawnmower. At $4 a gallon, I am sure someone in the neighborhood will want it.

how much is in there?

the gauge read about a third of a tank so around 4-5 gallons.

I have an electric lawn mower so no go there...damn yuppie parents.

Most of my neighbors are cool but I did wanna go to walmart, buy a siphon hose and say something along the lines of "this will show him not to mess with me anymore" while checking out.

Im amazed nobody asked this.. but How long had the gas been sitting in the MR2? If its that old, then you may not be able to "give" it to anyone because it will end up causing more harm than good to any engine.Thats again assuming you never moved the car in any way ( bounce checks work good to move the Fuel around the gas tank to prevent it from "going bad" so to speak)

I've got to drain a half full tank in the Supra... probably a good solid 8 gallons... and I'm going to have to do this soon actually because I'm getting ready to install my fuel system. Hmmmm. Interested in a good answer here as well if anyone knows.

It really does come down to how old the gas is. If it's not terribly old you can throw it into an old mower or something along those lines. The gas in my Beetle had sat for about a year and a half. Since there was only about two gallons in an 8 gallon tank I made sure it didn't smell like varnish (anyone who has smelled bad gas knows that smell) and filled it up with fresh and hit the road.

i drained mt project car. ended up putting it in a large container and letting it sit. it will all evaporate if left out uncovered...or you could call your township

gas in the supra is about 2 years old at this point... and obviously not interested in running it through any cars i care about. damn, what to do. anyone want some slightly aged high octane fuel for their high performance lawnmower?

Yep 2 years I would do the same. Thats a long time, anything less then 1 year I would see if it stinks and if it smells normal wouldn't worry.

Haha sorry Troll I wasn't asking you. After my coupe got totalled I used a big vacuum pump style thing through the fuel pump cover. I really have no idea what it is called though.

yeah i was just saying... i figured i'd pull the drain plug on the tank, assuming that there is one. hmm... i could just run the pump since the feed line is currently open. orrr i could get some sort of vac pump i suppose.

I haven't spent enough time under a Supra to tell you if there's a drain plug or not, for some reason I doubt it lol. I personally wouldn't run the pump, running a fuel pump dry is one of the worst things you can do to it.

If there's no drain plug, go with the cyphon/vacuum pump.

Yeah... there's a drain plug on Subarus but I'll have to look under the Supra. I do plan to keep the fuel pump and use it (adding a 2nd OEM Denso pump for my setup) so you're right, running it dry is no bueno.

you could take the feed line off of your fuel filter, turn the key on and just aim it into a bucket lol

oops wow you just said that LOL

theres nothing wrong with running all the way down just make sure you dont let it run dry for too long LOL

although leaving it uncovered would let the gas evaporate because it is fairly volatile, i definitely would not recommend doing so. It isn't too safe to let gas evaporate anywhere or....boom

If its outside there is no where for the fumes to build up..
