Well this is car related but I guess it's more of an ethical question than anything else. I wanted to buy wheels, I went to a local shop that doesn't need to be named, and I went with a certain wheel in mind. He talked me out of the ones I wanted, and got me a good deal on a set with tires from a company he does work with. I didn't mind because they looked awesome, but the problem is that they don't fit.

I told him that they didn't fit, and he said I would just have to cut/roll the fenders, and he offered to do that for me at a discount. I declined because I like to learn things myself and blkz06 offered to lend a hand and some tools.

Problem is, now I am having second thoughts. I am not planning on keeping this car at all, in all honestly if I could sell it now I would but I can't insure anything else. I like the car, but it's been three years and it's time for something new. That being said I would really rather not chop the fenders and cause the problem of rust or paint cracking. If that means not having aftermarket wheels at all, sobeit. But I am afraid he is not going to give me my money back for the wheels because he sold them to me at wholesale already mounted and balanced. If he gives me store credit that's just gay because I don't know what else I would buy. Plus I have a good relationship with this shop and I don't want to cause any animosity.

What would you do? I am going to call Monday and see if he will take them back, but idk what kind of reaction I am going to get. If he says "no" I don't want to go to court or something over it, I don't have time for that and I know he doesn't either. He made such a big deal about how he saved me hundreds of dollars and he said I should have expected to modify the fenders when I told him in the first place that they didn't fit. Any thoughts?

Did he/you know they werent going to fit, (before ordering), and that cutting/rolling the fenders was going to be necessary? If he did tell you that, I think your **** outa luck. However, if you didnt know this in advance/before buying the wheels, the I think you are due your money back.

He did not tell me that they would need to me modified. He said AFTER they didn't fit that "[I] should have known." I just listed them in the FS section because I doubt he will take them back. It sucks because I love them, but it's not worth the extra work for me and I have books to pay for for school soon.

i'd keep them and sell your car then buy a car that the wheels will fit on.

i would of never strayed from my game plan, i have a vision of what i want my car to look like and how i want it to perform and i'm not straying much if at all from my vision of the car and so far i'm loving how its turning out.

Yeah I know, I should have stuck with the wheels I wanted but he said he had experice with them and they were crap. And I'm not selling my car just to get another car that these wheels fit on, the next car I get will be 5-lug.

His opinion that you "should have known" doesnt matter. You didnt know, thats his mistake for not clarifying that the extra work would need to be done. I think he needs to take them back. If you had known the extra work would need to be done, you would not have boughten them to begin with...

^ Very true. Although I probably should have asked him as well. It just sucks. I always have to learn the hard way though.

every good salesman will try and steer you away from a product they dont have and sell you one you one they do have and if that means a bit of lying so be it. It's dirty salesmanship but it usually works so consider yourself a victim, it happens. just be happy you didnt get talked into a car that you can't afford and get stuck with horrible payments thats even worse.

as a consumer, you should have researched your purchase before putting the money down.

as a consciousness business owner, he should have told you before hand that they would not fit if he knew, or should have confirmed that they would have fit w/o modification before selling them to you

you both have some fault in this. However, the shop owner, under good faith, ought to refund you your money 100% as he swayed you towards that purchase over what you originally wanted

If he doesn't refund ya, I'd re-sell the wheels, if you got a good deal on them, ya may even end up making a buck or two.

i put them up in the fs section, if anyone bites then i wont even have to deal with him. i'm not trying to make a profit off of them i just wanna break even.

make him take them back. if hes a legit business you can shove them back up his ass pretty much.

while he should return them, alot of stores wont return certain items for any reason. Contrary to popular belief, in PA stores are not required to give any sort of refund what-so-ever.

I would think that if you have known him for a long time, he would work something out for you in the way of returns, but at the same time, if he did "give you a huge discount" then you might be SOL....

Who knows. Gl tho, that is pretty crappy.
