Holy effing ****. What did I do?! LMFAO! So I finally got my exhaust finished up. I did a "custom" 3" straight exhaust. Car has a header that collects at 2.5", then its straight 3" from there back, no cat, no muffler. Yea it looks cool but I dont know if I can stand to drive this thing like it is haha. It is hands down the loudest ka exhaust I've ever heard. I dont have a cam that takes video with sound, so until I get one, you'll just have to wonder what it sounds like. For those of you who go to exton on fridays...beware. You'll hear me coming when I get off the bypass! BTW....this sounds dumb but on an s13, if you put a different rear in (j30 rear) does it affect the speedometer? Because if not this car is a lot faster then I thought it would be!

EDIT!: Now have a video. The one long run I made was 4th gear, ~50mph to ~100mph (on a closed road couse, and it was computer generated, on mars) I apologize about the quality and aim. I thought I had the camera straight but I just had my tripod ziptied into the back seat lol.

haha let me put it this way, no you dont. LOL it sounds absolutely horrid. I HAVE to put a muffler on asap because I'm gonna get pulled over daily if I dont. I also have to get some new suspension on this thing ASAP because it is the worst riding car ever.

So what you're saying is it was an excellent purchase? LOL

the car or the exhaust? lol I'd say yes to both! The exhaust will be fine (hopefully :bigeek:) with a muffler on it. suspension will be taken care of shortly.

I meant the exhaust. Did you just buy the car too? I would assume a muffler will work out just fine. What's up with the suspension?

yea I just got the car. The suspension is just cut springs. no good. the exhaust, its not even a brand of exhaust of anything, I just bought 3" piping and welded it together.

Well congrats on the coupe buy. And yeah, cut springs suck! What are you going to get to replace them?

full 3" on a mostly stock motor... isn't that going to be counterproductive?

Don't you remember the thread you made were I told you to use a resonator? See why?

I thought so too, but in all honesty all dyno charts prove otherwise. KAs like to breathe.

nothing special. I dont have a ton of money to throw around on this right now so I'm just doing a set of megan coilovers

what they said

YES! I do see why! Does anybody around downingtown/coatesville/west chester/exton have a 3" inlet muffler they would want to sell me? Seriously, I cannot even drive the car it is so loud. I drove it like 20 minutes to my friends house and was mad by the time I got there.

A turbocharger would quiet it down nicely...

Anyone who wants to hear it come to the meet tomorrow!!! hahahahah
It is completely and utterly obnoxious.

yeaa i had the same problem thanks to some rusted clamps around the cat. Sadly i couldnt get to do the exhaust yet so i ended up running headers with about 3 feet of 2 1/8 piping. My ears hurt inside the cabin lol

i have the stock muffler and cat, with a 3.5'' HKS Dragger exhaust w/NO reasonator, so i know how you feel. Ever since i had to put it on, i absolutely hate driving my car. I will admit though the car definitely pulls a bit nicer up top.

Indeed they do, theres debates almost weekly in the Altima section of Nissanclub about 2.5" v. 3" exhaust on KA24DE's. Consistently, 3" has higher peak HP & torque. 2.5" gives you a bit more low end power but thats about it.

I completely love it. I think I'm just gonna use a vibrant resonator and hope that quiets it down a lot. I dont want to put a muffler on it.

yea a snail will def quiet her down a bit. my car with open DP was loud, but nothing to get excited about. now im running custom full mandrel 2.5 from the turbo with a 40 series flowmaster at the back and my car is so so quiet it kinda sucks. u want my 2.5-2.5 flowmaster?

I'll try to get a vid for you guys of before and after. I'm really hoping the resonator will take care of it. I got the bigger one of the 2. Even if its not much quieter but it gets rid of the nasty raspiness at certain rpm's I'll be happy. Right at 2k rpm it sounds like a bi-prop airplane. Literally sounds exactly like one flying overhead. At 3k it gets so raspy I can't deal with it I have to shift or punch it to get past like 3300rpm.

my buddy brandon RBS13 had an ebay header with full 3inch into a muffler and that was obnoxiously annoyingly loud! i can only imagine what urs sounds like.. lol and guys when he tells you its loud..hes not lieing..my buddies scared small children and old ladies lol

Well, I just finished welding my resonator in. It helped a little bit. It got rid of the raspyness at 2k rpm which is a big plus, because now I can actually get up to a normal speed without it bursting my ear drums. If I get on it though, its really no different at all, which is ok because once I get past like 3500-4000 its not as raspy, its just really loud. But I figure if I'm racing or doing whatever, it wont drop below 4k anyways so meh. It was money and time well spent in my opinion, because its much more drivable now. Another thing I'm pretty happy about is that my welding has improved 10 fold from when I first started welding. (which was only like 2 months ago, and I've welded very few things. this was my biggest project so far) The slag splatter is still pretty bad, but I'm also only using flux core, so I guess that is kind of inevitable. Hopefully soon I'll get around to getting some gas and hook all that up, and hopefully that will help make things a bit nicer looking. But for the most part I've got the hang of it. Also need a better mask. (hand held mask FTMFL)
