except the voyager makes calls and teh touch doesnt..also for 10bucks its not going to be crazy accurate, but it would be fun looking at cornering g's and what not

Yeah lol I left out the main feature (phone)

Yeah I doubt its worth picking up a touch for just this app..even though I can get 1 for like $80 or less probably.

I just upgraded my touch to 2.0 and saw this. I'm waiting until its hacked for free, I'm not paying $15 for it.

WOWOWOWOWOW. Just bought this. AWESOME isn't the word. Put a little duct tape loop on the back and stuck it to my center console/armrest and went out for some fun. Didn't have enough room to do a 1/4 mi but i got a 330ft time of 7.97s @ 47mph. My max lateral G's were 0.75g right and 0.73g, but I have to try again to get some better numbers. Theres so many cops out right now its ridiculous. Max braking G's was 0.47, max accel was 0.40.

I have it on my phone now. The g meter seems to work good, but I'm not sure about the acceleration stuff yet because I haven't had a chance to open my car up yet. I'll do it on the way home tonight from the local car meet since that's at like 11pm haha.

The other problem is, I have NO WHERE to mount it in my car where I can easily glance at it (like you would a gauge).... but I guess I'll have to come up with some cool idea. I have some spots that COULD work, but they don't meet the mounting criteria that it says about being straight up and not crooked....

but who knows. We'll see. Defiantly worth $13

How do you know the G meter works well? Compared to? I might seriously buy an iphone just for this

On the 2.0 Firmware, hold the lock button and tap the home button and it will flash the screen white for a sec. Takes a screenie.

Seems to work well for me. Gotta try and beat 0.75G

ok ok, I shouldn't say that. In my personal experience which is ZERO lol, I think it works well. As far as reacting to what the car is actually doing, it works good that way. But I do not know if the actual reading are acuarte or what because I've never been put in a situation where someone said "this is going to be 1G of force" and then been subject to it.

BUT.

I love the 1/4 mile part of it. Being that it's midnight, I went and took 2 runs (and probably woke the entire town up). Keep in mind, my car dyno'd at 117whp w/ 123ftlbs. I also plugged in an accurate 2660 weight and set it to 0% drive loss which according to the app gives you WHP estimations.

My first with a crappy launch was:

0-10: 0.97
0-20: 2.23
0-30: 3.44
0-40: 4.97
0-50: 6.80
0-60: 9.06
0-70: 11.52
0-80: 14.91

60' : 2.82 @ 24 mph
330': 7.33 @ 51 mph
1/8 mile: 11.02 @ 67.7 mph
1000': 14.17 @ 77.6 mph
1/4 mile: 16.83 @ 84.3

max speed: 85.7 mph
max accel: 1.14 G's
peak HP: 110 HP

--------------------------------

second run, better launch, more concentration:

0-10: 0.89
0-20: 2.01
0-30: 3.27
0-40: 4.51
0-50: 6.28
0-60: 8.11
0-70: 10.20
0-80: 12.84
0-90: 15.63

60' : 2.69 @ 24.8 mph
330': 7.01 @ 53.2 mph
1/8 mile: 10.55 @ 70.4 mph
1000': 13.53 @ 81.1 mph
1/4 mile: 16.03 @ 90.8 mph

max speed: 91.7 mph
max accel: 1.14 G's
peak HP: 119 HP

The test will be if I make it to the track sometime soon and compare my results.

wouldn't zero driveloss be crank/brake horsepower

3kgtslflip
08-01-2008, 01:22 AM
If you put lets say, 15% drivetrain loss, it will add that on top of your current hp, so then it would be crank, i think.

I definately have to get one of these.

http://www.proclipusa.com/choosecountry/choosecountry.aspx - vehicle specific mounts, going to get one for the 350z :)

DPancoast

it says

"enter estimated drivetrain loss as a % in horsepower calculations. typical values are 15-25. enter 0 to report wheel hp."

Damn my automatic family sedan, haha, my 0-50 is dog slow. I need a street long enough to do a 1/4 mi run. Highest I can get to on this back road (which is flat/straight) is ~55 ish.

DPancoast
08-01-2008, 01:31 AM
haha yeah I had the same issue with finding a road long enough. I tried it like just acting like an asshole on the way home from a light, but I ran out of road really fast.

Then when I actually had time tonight to go to a road near my house, I was scared to blow by a cop, so I was driving up the road and looking and then turning around and praying a cop didn't pop up out of the ground.

Plus my car is so damn loud... uber fail lol... but uber win to this app.

the4g63
08-01-2008, 01:37 AM
Seems pretty accurate if DPancoast's car makes 117whp and it read 119 on his good run. I'll have to make my g/f put this on her ipod touch. When I can drive I'll have to see what kinda power it says my car makes. It was evoscan on-road dynoed and I got 345 at the wheels, and that's supposedly pretty accurate.

Nice results. I wonder how much G's my car can pull. DPancoast, was that G reading from straight line acceleration only or was it from like a skidpad like test? Stock Supras pulled .97 on the skidpad, and I don't think I've ever come close to that (~Driver mod needs some more balls)

DPancoast
08-01-2008, 11:20 AM
The G's in my 1/4 mile are from acceleration. But when you are in the actual skidpad screen of the app, it gives you real time g's in lateral (left and/or right), acceleration and braking. This is the only part that has me wondering because it seems like you could mount it in different places and it would read more or less, but I haven't done any kinda testing yet. I'm probably going to fab up some sort of mount/bracket so that it floats rather than being attached to a solid surface... OR I might just cut a hole in my center console for my I phone and run my iPod cable for my headunit to it so that it acts as both a level solid place to use this app, and a place to plug in my phone to charge/run music off of it...plus I would make it look nice of course.

NickS
08-01-2008, 02:00 PM
How would it read more or less in certain spots? If the phone is secured, it's secured.

Nors
08-01-2008, 02:30 PM
it says

"enter estimated drivetrain loss as a % in horsepower calculations. typical values are 15-25. enter 0 to report wheel hp."

Ooo, I was thinking it would subtract the %, but it looks like it adds it. Makes sense.

DPancoast

I just feel like it could make a difference whether it's on my dash or my center console because of different forces in the car. I dunno lol.
