the way hes describing it, it may take a little more work than just that although that would work for normal maintenance cleaning

I must agree but my engines are always clean doing the same thing....I use simple green on my Evo and used Ardex Mean Green degreaser when I worked for a highline dealer. I always used a wash mit to get everything because just spraying it isn't going to get everything, we know that. Also make sure you keep the car and engine wet when using these products as they can and will stain your paint. Not really a big deal as you will polishing the paint afterwards because it will strip the paint down.

Just make sure you use a pressure washer, it really helps break up the grime. After it dries I like to LIGHTLY dress everything with a high quality tire/engine dressing to give it that bling. Good luck and don't be afraid to get into detailing, it shows you really care for your car!

Kind of related question here... do you guys think that simple green would make a good wheel cleaner too?

GUNK citrus engine degreaser. Hands down. also turtle wax rubbing compound for the sides of the engine bay. Get a rag, a scrub brush, hose, and go to town. Be careful about pressure washing. I just use a regular garden hose, and it does the job just fine. Cover your intake, and I also cover my battery.

^looks good but I must say any degreaser in a spray bottle is going to get the job the done. Why not use a pressure washer...please enlighten me. In my life I possibly degreased about 1000 engines and only had a problem with about 5/10 of them not restarting. If the owner would of used the proper dielectric grease like all ignition systems call for, this would of never of been a problem. Also if you have a open filter element take it out and stuff the intake prior to cleaning. This is also a great time to degrease and if called for re-oil your element. The heated pressure washer is what makes your engine look great without the elbow grease. You know what I'm saying...Work smarter...not harder! If I didn't do this for a living in the past I would of never posted.

I hate that citrus stuff.
I might work well, but your whole car stinks from that stuff for a few weeks after using it. I cant stand it.

Oh this I know. I just meant if it was good as a spray on, rinse off kind of wheel cleaner or if i should stick to the eagle one stuff i was using.

if you rinse it off well enough, the car wont smell like it. even a little missed spot will bake and have that smell.

I never said to not use a pressure washer. I just said to be careful :bigeek:

I've had water eek into places it shouldn't with a hose. a loose electrical connector, etc could get knocked off with a pressure washer, etc. I just said to be careful, that's all.

I just tie a plastic bag/grocery bag around the intake. fits snugly, and keeps the water out.

I hand scrub, only because it gets all the crap out, especially if you have an EXTREMELY dirty engine bay. there's only so much a pressure washer can reach.

Although, the 3000GT engine bays are abnormally cramped, so, that could be why washing by hand does a better job.

everyone has their own way of doing it.
