If two filters have the same outlet diameter but are differnt lengths does one have a better performance?

ex. This one has a longer shape

VS
This one is shorter

will one give me better performance than the other?

the performance depends on the person....... this belongs in the "no homo" thread, lol, but who makes that first one? i would say it depends on the materials used to make the filtration device, different cloth could mean better flow

noooo lol im not talking about the filter brands or materials at all. im just asking about the shape. if the shape of either increses the performance. i already know which brand i want, just not if one shape is better of the other

+1 the media itself will decide that. I work with micronic filtration everyday and let me tell you more surface area is usually better but I bet they flow the same CFM.

short ones usually just get laughed at. But to be serious, If the air has an easier path in because of the larger surface area, I guess that would be better.

Air filters don't really have or make performance.... ie. you would probably not notice a hair of difference between those 2 filters. Unless one of the filter elements is cheap Chinese knockout which actually disintegrates in air..... then obviously that would would be suckier.

technically, the exposed surface area of the filter element determines flow capacity....but even still your engine's headflow is ultimately what limits the volume or air entering the cylinders.

i'm going to kill myself now.

im betting the longer one will flow a bit better just because of less restriction due to more filter surface area ?

anyway. no matter what the material, you can always make it flow better by soaking it in gas or something. although it wont filter as well

edit: damn some guys already beat me to it. but i just noticed, the short red one has a small patch of filter on the end in the center, which adds to its surface area
