no realizing that modding your car is costly and takes time to learn from your mistakes. My biggest mistake was thinking that my first car (scion tC) would be the best thing ever. Little did i know how horrible of a platform it was to start with, well at least for what i wanted to do, i do think they are amazing cars and i rock my grandmothers 5speed tC all the time.

my 2003 Lightning, I made the mistake of letting someone else build it. I spent over $40,000 with them and the fuking thing blew up everytime I picked it up from them. Ended up selling it for 30K and lost a piss load of money.

my regret would also be just throwing away money into the car. It is an investment that you never see a return on. My next car will probably never get modded. I'm looking into Acura TL's. I can't wait to drive an automatic again....no more driving stick while i'm tired, no more heavy clutch in traffic.....just thinking about it makes me excited

1. Letting my 79 trans am go for free after I blew the motor back in 90. I miss it every time I see one on the road.
2. Not saving my money from the beginning to drop an STI motor in my wrx wagon. After pushing the ej20 on the dyno to get more power and blowing it I upgraded anyway.
3. I wish I sent my vf37 to deadbolt to have it modded to be a PE1825f clone from the beginning. The vf37 has been everything I ever wanted from it and I met my power goals BUT... turbos are like breast implants... almost everyone that gets them wishes they went bigger not too long after their in.

Selling my 1984 300ZX Limited Edition Turbo. It had 85,000 original miles and was flawless. It had black leather interior, mirrored T-Tops and gold rims. It was such a beautiful car! Some guy bought it for his spoiled kids who had already wrecked two Mustangs and a Jag. A month later, the guy called me and asked me if I had any pics of the car because his son just totalled it and he needed the pics for the insurance company. I don't even have any pics of the car anymore because my wife threw all of the pics of the car out because my ex was in them.

deciding to try and fix my truck after someone smashed into the side of it pretty much destroying the back, messing up the leaf springs and bending my frame. Fixed the leaf springs but drove around with a bent frame for over a year. gave so many problems. Went through about 3 tires on the back right side in a year. :( I miss my truck before it got hit.

The order I did everything.

Motor- Coilovers- Diff- Kit- Wheels- Paint- Multi Link Arms- Seat- Spacers

Doesn't sound that bad until you figure how long I was slow sr with no suspension so it was good for nothing. Then how long I was open differential, and how long I was rocking a black kit on a grey car, and how long I had sunken battleship wheels. It was just stupid.

I could also build a whole lot cooler, faster, just all around more built of a car if I did it all over again and still spend at least 3-4k less. All largely due to just learning the ropes, how to take a deal, what is a better buy for your money, and all the hookups I have gained along the way.

I don't understand why you would regret something like that. If you didn't do it the first time, you wouldn't be able to do it better faster and cheaper the second time... Learning experiences shouldn't be regretted, the only thing you should regret is making the same mistake twice.

Isn't that sort of the same idea though as everyone posting their regrets? You shouldn't regret your decision if you didn't fall under the same path twice because it was all in the process of learning?

No, what I'm saying is that you regret learning how to build your car. Some of the other things in here are people regretting buying or selling cars, that kind of thing. That's a little different than regretting a learning experience.

I paid 14k for it and I could have had an 03 Jag S-type R for $200 more, but the great thing is I can always sell my car, make a little profit and start over again. my BIGGEST regret is selling my 1992 240sx to a friend for 900 dollars. he proceeded to hack it up, paint it the ugliest possible color, drop an srfunnydet in it, crash it, and then sell it for way more than 900. it was my 1st sports car. i bought it for 600 with a salvage title and went through the whole ordeal to reconstruct it. i made my own short ram intake advanced the timing and put some wheels on it. it was the best car ever.i was out of a job and owed my insurance company money. the mafs went bad and i was a newb who didnt know ****. so i sold it to him for 900. the car was rust free. beautiful shape. i had no idea how rare that was. now i have nothing but rust buckets. im now on my 3rd s13.

Well, I never looked at the STI. I test drove one after I got my Evo and really liked it. But, I guess if I got an STI I'd have the same feeling, lol. well said!

Not diving deep enough into the "Go" end before that of the "Show" end, But all that's being corrected at this time..:)...Learning is the beauty of what we do, but sometimes its just too d*mn costly!
Definitely not making the same mistakes with my lady's ride.

Your regret should be on wasting your money on your collection of POS's

1. Selling my first car, a 1970 Olds Cutlass in great shape, for $300 so I could buy a primered 1978 Firebird (I was 16 and my dad should have stopped me! LOL).
2. Spending a full weekend rebuilding a 69 Camaro 350 and putting it in my 85 Camaro only to have it blow up 2 days later due to an incorrect oil pan seal leaking all the oil.
3. Selling my 82 Regal T-Type for $300 due to a bad timing chain.

I could go on and on, I've owned a lot of cars. But those are my top 3.

Taking a perfectly good modded car and ripping it apart and redoing everything on it.

and even bigger mistake was....

taking it apart again selling everything less than 1 year after doing it the first time, buying everything new again, and letting it sit in my driveway for almost a year.

thinking i knew everything and jumping at the first "clean" foxbody i looked at when i was 16, soon to realize this was not the case and wasting lots of $ trying to fix it up. Being addicted to cars and modding... its sucks. I'm always wanting to do more but don't have the money to do so.

Then buying a stock Integra LS instead of that 95 Nissan 240sx with an SR20 swap.:(
