Hey I have a cool story, Saturday night I was down philly going to the races, Crossing over the double decker bridge, so a silver srt-4 wants to play, so my boy who is driving his 99 civic si with a type r swap drops it into 3rd gear. The srt-4 does the same, we are neck and neck until my boy hits 7500 rpm doing around 120mph, we started to pull on this srt-4 Holy #@*%. That same day earlier we dynoed his car at xotic motorsports, he layed down 172 at the wheels. Compared to a stock srt-4 laying down 232 whp stock, I was really surpised we were pulling. And I dont even know if the srt was stock, it may have some mods. I just :eek: :P thought I'd tell a cool race story.

nice story. the si weighs a lot less than an srt, so you have to factor that in. plus the stock exhaust it killer top end, so the srt probably fell flat on its face after 120. very impressive for a si though, not too many out there than can hang with an srt. good job :thumbup:

Not many that can hang with an srt? Come on your not driving a ferarri. yes they are quick for a 4 cylinder but there are still alot of cars that will walk you.

Stock WRX can barely hang with a stock SRT from a roll.
No way will a Civic Si, even with the swap.

I wasnt saying anything about wrx's beating srt's i know they beat wrx's, I came to accept that fact a long time ago. Also, as far as a stock srt vs a civic si with a type r swap yes the civic can beat the srt. especially in a top speed run. any turbo car with a stock down pipe will fall flat on its face at higher speeds. small turbo+ restrictive down pipe= no more go. throw in the fact that the type r motor has great top end and that all boils down to srt losing. In a striahgt drag race the srt may get them cause a stock type r runs like a 14.4-5 but im sure if he did a swap he isnt fully stock.

considering that this si with a swap was putting out 172 fwhp, i doubt that there's anything else major done to the car.

I drive a wrx... clearly stated in my signature.. the ghettoest wrx! I havent been beaten by any srt-4 because i dont drag race on the street and have never been to the track. I bought my car because it is good in all weather and good in the twisties. Drag racing is racing in its simplest form and while its fun to watch i dont really care for it. Yes an srt would beat me but oh well, i really dont care. I dont have a hard on for srt's i have a love for all cars. Now back to the topic at hand, I have a rsx type s and the 05's are putting down in excess of 185 to the wheels with and a pretty good tranny(running 14.8 and 0-60 in 6.2sec) so I find it very hard to believe that your buddies swaped civic(172 fwhp) beat and srt(13.9 in the 1/4 mile). I realize thats not top end but at 100 i would figure the srt should have 3 cars easy(actually very easy) on a swaped civic(172).
WHat prob happened is the srt driver had a half of a brain and started to coast at 120

Yes but we arent discussing modded vs non modded. by that logic anything can beat anything. if you took an srt and an evo and an sti and did all the same mods my money is on the srt coming in last. if you took all 3 of them stock with the same driver my money would be the srt coming in last. im not saying the car isnt quick its just not the rocket that the drivers of the car make them out to be. that is all i have been saying from the beginning. yes it is quick for a 20k car but as far as overall performance goes the sti and the evo are superior but thats why they are payin an extra 16k for their cars.

No tranny / clutch enjoys being dropped at 5k. And not many cars will last long if you continue to drive like that! lol

And if you spend the same ammount on each car (which is the only fair way that I see), the SRT would win, hands down every time. This is only because you would have 10-15k to mod with more than the others tho (If you count the base price in your #'s).

The SRT is the best car ever made...In history...It is better than a Lambo, civic, maybach, porsche, ferrari, benz, honda, ford, chevy, pontiac, saturn, vdubb, subaru, shelby, nissan, mazda...You name it, and I can give a reason that the SRT is better! lol (I really hope you sense my slight sarcasm!)

With an sti i dont think its that bad... there trannys are pretty strong. With my wrx its so bad... but if ya feather the clutch just enough you can get a really nice launch no wheel spin and no boost loss.

Just to throw in my .02.

1. As someone already said, driver error. An SRT can run 15s w/a crappy driver. I watched one run consistent 15s.

2. I hate hearing everyone quoting hp numbers and ****. Like nothing else matters. My god, this car put outs only 170 and this one puts out 230. OBVIOUSLY, the 230hp car should win. Just not true all the time. There's also weight and gearing. My old PGT put down 175whp but I kept up w/turbo'd 2.0s putting down a decent bit more than me.

Bottom line, I believe the story. I am NOT bashing srts, but there are a lot of morons out there buying them up that can't drive worth a ****.

I dunno I'm feelin matt on this one. I admit the SRT is a good car. and we're all happy dodge decided to put out a decent car. But I've seen the major neon boost on this forum and I think the SRT humping is reaching all new levels.

If the SRT were a girl on this forum all of you would have leg humped her moneymakers off. I think thats what Matt was trying to say. Personally I'm tired of hearing "OH SRT4 this. and OH SRT4 that."

We all like our cars, and to some extent think its the best at a certain aspect (I mean thats why we bought them). But I'm tired of having to hear from all you NEON owners out there how your car is the best. If I wanted that propaganda bull shoved down my throat I'll watch some TV. Dude, at no point did anyone mention a price tag. Yes, there are no cars for under 20k that can hang with an srt. But the comment that was made was "NOT MANY CARS CAN HANG WITH AN SRT-4" there was no mention of price, no mention of modded vs non modded, no mention of if i took the extra money i saved from not buyign your car and put it into mine id win. It was simply stated as not many can keep up. Im sorry if it comes off as if i hate srt, i dont. I am the original person to post this thread, for you non believers out there, my boys SI is very quick for its setup, i've seen him beat cars from SRT'4's to 5.0 Mustangs. I dont lie. And those of you who are in denial, well that sucks for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I drive a dynoed 318 AWHP 99 eclipse. I know what fast is, and for the setup my boy has, his car is pretty quick.

LOL, I also like the 5.0 comment. This is a tough thread to get into. I do agree that the SRT-4 is an awsome car for the money. I do however think alot of the owners can not drive the cars. I have only raced one SRT-4 and I believe it was an 03' so 215hp right. I did end up beating it by more then I figured. Not sure if it was the driver or not. I don't get why you guys are always argueing over them. I don't know about the Si but they are very quick top end from what I have seen. I honestly don't see how the Si could beat the SRT-4 after 120mph. Whoever said if it was from a stop is right the SRT-4 should have been many car lengths ahead by the time they hit 120mph and the dude in the SRT-4 must have let of or couldn't drive.

Lauching any car at 5K is rediculous. Are you guys actually saying you have traction even launching that fast. If you do that is amazing. I know I can't even leave of idle without the tires spinning which is pretty beat from racing from a stop. Good Luck to your guys trannys. Especially the EVOs lol

If anyone bothered reading, the comment that Not Many Cars Can Beat an SRT or something like that was NEVER posted. The comment clearly stated that it was referencing Si's. Which is a true comment. How many Si's were produced...thousands upon thousands...how many of them are modified to run sub-14s...hundreds?...a thousand? either way it's nothing compared to the total number of Si's on the streets. And I think it's worth noting on any forum that your friends Si laid the smack down on an SRT. As my boy already says..."If you don't race you lost" LOL...so whether he let off the gas or couldn't drive, he didn't finish what he started. As all of our favorite movie says "It doesnt matter whether you win by an inch or a mile, winnings winning!" So I say congratulations to ur friend...that's a bada$$ car he put together, i wish him luck with everything he does with it. I love all cars. I choose not to street race so I've been beaten by everything...I could care less, if it makes the guy with the Chevy Cavalier sleep better at night saying he beat an SRT then whatever.

Unfortunately there are a lot of a$$hole SRT drivers, just like every other car...especially Mustangs...LOL (j/k Mustang guys!). I don't think nor have I ever thought that the SRT was Gods gift to the automotive industry. But it does make a statement in the industry and it is the King of IT'S class (FWD 4cyl Sport Compact Car). And even holds it's own in the other classes (RWD/AWD, V8, etc...)

Everybody should be proud of their car and respect the cars of others cause we're all out to do the same thing...have fun with our cars.

If the Civic ran a 13.96, then he’s gonna be pretty fast on the highway. I don’t find it hard to believe he outran an SRT-4. The SI builds a decent amount of speed once they’re rolling.

EVOs and STIs have crazy grip from a launch. All wheel drive is totally different from using two wheels. I launch at 5500rpm with 35,000 miles on the car and have the stock clutch and tranny. No problems. (The driver is also important on a 5000rpm launch.)

I stated in a previous thread that my dogsh!t SER ran with one on the highway, and all i have is intake header and my speed limiter removed. at 130 i was still ahead.
