soo i was wondering how many times a day do people hit vtec?
im not gonna lie i hit vtec about 20 times a day thats only cuz gas is expensive

Maybe its because I don't own a honda, but I never really felt/heard when vtech kicked in when I've been in cars that supposedly had it. I mean, I know how it works (for as little car knowledge that I have) but I keep hearing that there's a distinct feel/sound...never felt/heard it though.

Oh you'll will know it when you feel it. I never drove a car with iVTEC but VTEC has a distinct engagement.

And to the answer the question, when I drive my Prelude I usually only use VTEC for highway on-ramps. Maybe 3 or 4 times a day, the H22 really has good torque for a 4 banger.

lol gotta love owning a honda, i guess i should get used to this stuff around here huh? haha..and to keep this somewhat on topic, i hit Da VEETAKKKKSSZZZZ about 2 times a day..maybe... i usually just shift around 2500 and baby her.. and to answer the one post about not feeling vtec...single cams unless there is an intake on the car, you really wont hear it, B series or H series are where its at..

Powerful F series??? what? I hope ur only talking about the s2K motor. Other than that they slow. When i hit Vtec my tires spin lol. But i hit Vtec all day long on the highway. Ramps are my favorite. Nothing like 90 on the Bristol entrance to 95 lol

If you wanna save gas, shift lower

I had an 01 LX 5-speed and I got around fine shifting between 2250 and 2500 and got 33mpg city regularly..miss the good ol days

Shifting too low causes you to bog a bit. And you waste more gas gettin the car back up to cruising speed.

I understand that everyone has there tastes but to hate on VTEC is just funny. You gotta have some respect for cars that can make over 100 HP per Liter without boost? And you say that a lot of cars vary valve timing, well yeah now they do cause VTEC came out in 1991. If you don't like Hondas, you got to admit that they have a good thing going with these little motors!

Lol yeah I would, I have a big motor but it's not S/C. It's a 4.6L 4v N/A with 305 to the crank stock.

I like hondas in some ways because they're good in gas mileage and have good reliability, I wouldn't mind having one as a DD. I will admit that they have a good thing going with them though.

ill admit that i like muscle cars, its what i grew up on (dads a huge ford guy)... its just that i like hondas more right now b/c its more of a challenge to make an economy car 'fast' (civics/integras/etc).

i could easily use all my allowed vtecs for the week in one day. i <33 vtecz. I actually have no idea when it engages on a stock f22, but on a b16 it engages right around the same time my pants get tight. pretty much makes my life.

Actually, Fiat first introduced the idea in I think the 60s, IIRC Honda was just the first company to really market the technology, hence people think Honda was the original inventor.

Swap in a crappy motor, strip your ride to that of a shell, and make sure your full coverage is up to par... and leave your windows down for good measure...

just make sure you have a buddy to give ya a life home :mrgreen:
