A good cheaper by a lot ole-fashion MBC (manual boost controller) are always better IMO. There are 2 that are widely used by the evo community and they are the forge MBC and the Hallman MBC. Both are simple inexpensive and most of all WORK. I've had a black forge for 2 years and it's great.

Here's the forge< also come polished if that's your thing.

Here's the Hallman:

I have the AEM Tru-boost EBC and I absolutely love it, Its a gauge and controller in one and has alot of cool features for the money. You can really dial this thing to get the spool and boost you want and control your boost spike with the wastegate spring setting. I thinks its a win.

There are alot of options out their for you and evyone has the opinion on what will work, what are your goals? If you ar egetting as flash on pump gas and plan to stay their and not run meth or race gas then a MBC is possibly what you want. If you want the option to run both in the future the EBC is what you want so you cna switch back as fast as you can hook up your laptop.

I've toyed with one of those things before, they're pretty neat.

I personally like electrical ones, but they're expensive compared to the $40 MBCs that work well enough for just about anyone.

I would go Hallman or Forge MBC. They're proven to work. I know someone already said it I thought I would just put another word in :)

I have the same one in my EVO and it is horrible compared to the old ones, I hate it..
The question the OP needs to ask is what would work best with my upgrade path..MBC's are what they are, a bleeder valve. I would rather have a bleeder valve then the Profec B spec. 2 that I have, it is horrible on this car. Also, do you NEED a boost controller? Any tuner that knows what they are doing should be able to hold 22psi without a boost controller, are you tuned for higher bost? if not your car will most likely be slower after you add a boost controller..Alot of variables and no right answer from the lack of info about the car..

Most people are not aware that ECU pressure based boost control is also possible on EVO's (no more boost changing with weather) I have set this up on my friends car and he loves it, he even got rid of his boost gauge!

Boost controller?? Who needs a stinking boost controller! Aside from the comment, I have never had much luck on EBC running high boost(30+ psi). I have always stuck with a MBC and will from now on when I decide to put it back on the car.
