Now of course we all have our match box car stories growing up.
What I'm looking for is what really set it all off for you with what your driving or into today. I've always been into cars no doubt. I've had a 72 VW bug which was my beach cruiser / Skate Mobile, then onto a Lifted Jeep to hual all my toys (dirt bikes / quads) And now the Import thing which stuck hard since 97... read on.
What set off the Import thing for me -
One day my buddy calls me up and says him and this dude are coming over and I HAVE to take a ride in his car cause it was sick fast. They pull up and I remember thinking "this car looks like a friggin turd" It was a Galant VR4 (I had no idea at the time hehe.) This was in 97. So I get in the car thinking "ok bob, just pretend your impressed after he gets on it"..... We cruise out of the development and he stomps the gas.. I flew back in my seat and remember saying WTF, yooo whats that sound (the BOV) holy sh**... ok ok ok slow up theres a turn... We got back to my house, I got out of the car and remember looking back at the same car thinking "dam, that SH** looks mean"
The car was fully built with 20G which I learned all about soon after.
In late 98 I bought my 99 Impreza RS and did the 2002 WRX swap in 2003. I had it since.
To this date alls I think about all day is cars hehe! It's def. time for me to build something else. Theres sooo many different Imports Im dieing to build.. something will come up soon..
whats your story?

you say hehe a lot... its kinda gay...
I grew up around cars, my uncle had mustangs and camaros for as far back as I remember.
I've always been interested in cars of various kinds. I started out pretty much in highschool. My mom had a '73 mustang convertible that I would take to car shows, then in my senior year it basically became my car as I began to buy it from her. That sold 2 weeks before graduation.
After that I had an 86 Celica hatchback, which was mint... really wanted to make a nice auto cross car out of it... then came the 85 Laser XE turbo, then an 05 SRT-4, 85 Omni GLH, and all culminating in me retaining the SRT-4 and having the 69 C/10 project truck.

I used to go to my dad's on the weekends as a kid and I spent a lot of time in the waiting room at the shop he worked at coloring and such while he was working. Then when anything was being worked on when I got older I would be the "monkey wrench" fetcher... Which moved on to lending a hand and eventually being able to do different things on my own.
Always been around them and always will...

The Fast and the Furious, duh.
No, for real, though. My dad was always into cars, always working on them and I would always hang out with him. Difference between him and I: he's into Chevys and other domestics. I'm not sure how I got into the import part of it. I just never liked domestics. I have two brothers around the same age as me and I was he one hanging out around the cars all my life. My dad still can't believe that his DAUGHTER is more into it than the boys. I blow him away with half the things I know.

My story is easy.
My first word was car (besides the typical mamamamam daddadaddadaa baby blabber). Hell, there's baby videos with me saying nothing but "car" over and over.
End of story. kthxbai.

I was just born this way. It runs in my blood. I am the only child out of 5 girls (no brothers) that is into cars and sports and such... I had the tomboy role.
My dad is into domestics, he doesn't understand imports (which is silly), he thinks they're equivalent to hotwheels, lol.
Being around classic muscle cars is how i grew up. My Current relationship has introduced me to the incredible world of imports.
There was not a determining point of interest. I have just always been into cars.
My dad or one of the neighbors would be working on a car, and I would be the kid trying to get under the car to see what they were doing.
I could not be happier, all I can do from this point is continue to gain knowledge. I definitely would not be the same person if i had no interest in cars, I think people of that sort are just... strange.

no interest in cars, I think people of that sort are just... strange.
i couldn't agree more...
people that have no concept of why cars can be, or are, cool or interesting can get really ****ing annoying...
i had one of my buddy's girlfriend's friends questioning me about racing and cars and stuff and was just a complete twat over it all... there was no, "oh, well...whatever" it was a constant barrage of, "i don't get it and it's stupid"
then when I got my truck and people were asking me question she, naturally, chimed in... and started laughing, at me just about, and went on about "oh, now when I need something moved I'll call you"
I told her if she ever called me I wasn't going to answer the phone...
stupid fat ass...

I originally though cars were complex things so it just interested me. One day I just told myself that if I know the inner workings of a computer, cars can't be too much harder and said **** it and started reading everything I could.

I bought a POS, then wanted a car that could perform better then the typical POS. Can't afford a car that performs better then the typical POS. So I'm left trying to mod this POS I have in to something that may perform better then the typical POS.
I kinda just fell into it. No real big story, I just really really REALLY like driving, and I found my first car forum when I got the random urge to modify the elantra, and just recently I wanted to teach myself how to work on car's, so I bought the 240, where the next step is figure out working on engines by building up a KA-T.

my dad has been restoring antique cars since I was born so I've been around cars as long as I can remember. I've been rebuilding carbs/ fixing rust and going to car show/ swap meets since I was in a stroller. Then my brother got he license and we both built his 1985 mustang. Then I got my license and went through 5 cars in 3 years until I settled on my prelude.

RIght when me and a couple of friends started getting of age to get our liscences, we started getting cars. First one of us, my buddy Dustin, got this old 95ish Cavalier sedan, and was studying Auto Body in HS. Well, when it wasnt in that shop, it was in teh yard, and usually me and him working on random **** (stereo gear, headers, intake, w/e). I got my Cav. soon after, and we started working on mine alot. From there, I joined my first forum (v6z24, and soon after, JBO).
Since then, the obsession hasn't died too much. Sadly, I cannot afford to mod my own car, but I am usually w/ friends wreching on theirs when they need help. I just like to soak up the knowledge.

omg!that's what kinda made me get into cars as well.and then I realized rice was not the answer...no but seriously,my dad was always into building basket case BSA motorcycles and wrenching on his harley's.(he was also into classic domestic muscle cars, which at the tender age of 6, I thought his '68 mustang was so awesome.) me being my dad's only child he wanted me to have a passion for working on motorcycles as well. i was never into the whole bike scene, but i did love hleping my dad wrench and i was so fasinated on how the engine worked and what not. so i wanted to get into cars instead of motorcycles.so when I got my license my boyfriend at the time was OBSESSED with volkswagens.it was love at first sight(obviously I'm talking about the dub.) our 3 year relationship was revolved around dubs. fortunatly the dubbing addiction stuck with me,and he his long gone!LOL.

yeah, I guess to add to my story... before that I was heavily involved in MR2s through the MR2 Warehouse that used to be in Souderton, and just being friends with every MR2 owner in the area when I was in highschool. Definatly fell in love with the car at first site, thats for sure.

my brothers much older than me. he had an 83 monte carlo that was SICK but he was never much into cars. his friend had a grand national and when i was 5 years old i thought they were the same car. he sold the monte when i was little and bought an 88 cougar which made its way through my whole family til i ended up with it when i was 15. still got it to this day and it wont be making its way to any other family members. spent pretty much all my money on it through my teenage years (wasted, of course because i had no idea what i was doing). when i got out of school and got a good job i put it together the right way. now i want a new setup so its going to come apart again. i wanted to have it completed in 10 years but seeing as how theres no money and thats less than a year away i think i may have to shoot for 15.

haha you and I have a similar story. I am the oldest out of 2 girls. My Dad was always working on cars (pretty much anything you can think of) but especially restoring a GTO, which was the first step into the world of cars I had. I guess I adopted the "son" role and from the time I was super little I was getting tools for him and tightening bolts. My Dad has a WRX, as does my boyfriend-but I have to give the BF the credit of introducing me to the world of imports. He even got my Dad to do some mods to his WRX haha. Now I rock my little 2.5 RS and love it. I just keeping trying to learn more and more about cars and I love going to meets and hanging out with the tristate gang.

when I was younger my older bro and my one uncle (moms youngest bro is only a few yrs older than me and my bro...so my bro and i atually hung out with him as friends) were always into cars. My uncle has had several bad ass cars in his day, and my brother used to have a 72 Nova track car and he went to Lincoln Tech for engine maintenance and all that. So i was always around them and intrigued by it.
What set it off for me though was when i was 16. I had just gotten my license, and i was at my parent's campground with them. My aunt and uncle came over one morning. This particular uncle used to be a car collector of sorts also....and dealer. I went outside and saw a 63 Ford Falcon Convertible sitting in our driveway. I was like "holy shyt uncle Mike is that yours? thats awesome!!". He simply threw the keys into my chest and told me to go for it. He quickly reminded me of the lack of power steering and such. lol Man it felt awesome to be driving around in such a classic, and I think that's one reason I have a soft spot for classic and muscle cars moreso than tuners and exotics. I like ALL kinds of cars, don't get me wrong, I just have a deeper interest in those. Also because the cars my brother and uncle had were 72 Nova, 93 Mustang 5.0, 72 vette, 80-something camaro race car, LX mustang ( i forget what year)....you get the picture. lol
And when my stepdad met my mom when I was a youngin, he had a 66 mustang. that also sparked my interest.
so yea..thats how I got into cars. but if i were to strike it rich, I wouldnt be out buying a ferrari. I'd buy a 70 chevelle SS, or an old chevy truck like scapegoats.

I didn't know cleanneon was black.
Anyway I started getting in to the whole car thing at a young age. Between me and pops going to car shows or watching my grandfather work on his cars I was always interested in cars. I remember everytime I went to wildwood the only thing I did every trip to the boardwalk was ride the go karts. Even after prom when we went there I made my date ride the karts with me. Its in my blood I guess no other way to explain it.

i got into cars when i was really young by being carried and placed in a car seat,
I then progressed to opening the door myself and getting in and buckling up.
These days I try to just jump thru the window and land perfectly in the seat.

My parents always had droptops so they would just throw me over the top and itno the car.
my dad was a motorhead. Last time i talked to him like 5 years ago, he was working on restoring a bel air. that thing was a boat. i used to change the oil and gaskets with him all the time except...i just bitched and complained about the car falling on or being tired or something weak. He would give me a beer and tell me to shut up. the way all motorhead fathers where.

I was about 10 yrs old sitting in the passenger seat of my moms Jeep when I saw a black tinted out dodge stealth driving next to us next thing I know I hear a roar come from the car and its a mile ahead of us. Its all I talked about for like 6 months, at that point I was hooked.

For me it started with my dad getting a 01 mustang gt vert and he put a couple bolt-ons to make it faster. Then he sold that and got me 2005 mazda6 for me when I turned 16. I joined the mazda6club and pretty soon I started modding the 6 and became interested in how things make the car faster and what effects the car to enable it to be faster and checking out the competition by comparing two cars and why one will win in a 1/4 mile.
So it got me to read on cars online, car magazines, my buddy is a tech at o'neil nissan and we talk cars a lot. Sot that's how I got into cars

my dad for sure. he has worked for Porsche for as long as i can remember. he's an old domestic guy though.. he had a pair of old Nova SS's when he was younger. the thing that actually got me into cars was going to work with him on days i had off from school. as soon as we got to him work i would run into the Porsche/Audi showroom and mess around in all of the cars. i wanted one so bad and i was like 10. haha i loved it.
even though im ashamed to say it... fast and furious really got me interested

Same story here, ever since i was little i loved cars. My dad sparked my interest when i was little by asking me what different makes and models were, and i got so good at it i could identify the cars at night with only seeing the headlights approaching. My family has always owned hondas and acuras, and my first real taste of streetracing was with my 24 year old sister when i was 14 (yes, she races), visiting her down in Miami. She had a bright red 92 integra GSR, and i was in the passenger seat watching her go through the gears beating some dude in a 4 door chevy. Then she taught me how to drive it. So basically i've been hooked on all things car since a young age.

I've grown up with my hands on cars, mostly with my dad restoring mid to late 50's classics. He had a serious collection and I was always their helping out, even at Carlisle and the junk yards. Carlisle was like a damn vacation to him.
One memory really stands out and it got me hooked. The first fire up of the 69 GTO with a built 455 and the damn ground was shaking from the open collectors. He looks at me and says do the first brake torque. He explained it to me and let me rip a smoke show in the ally, I wish I still had the Polaroid my mother took.

My uncle & dad always pushed me to learn how to do my own maintenance on my cars. So it started from there. As i got older, newark became the popular place to be in delaware and there are almost always a few modded cars down there. I learned more about it though from Steph. Chaz, Julie, and Matt helped me alot on the mods and what i should do next

My dad was into cars, and at one point he owned an Auto repair shop. So from that point in time I was interested in cars. Further on I gained more knowledge about cars such as engine types and such. Then, once I got my car, I began taking everything apart and learning hands on. Now, after doing just about everything on my car, I am ready for a another one. :)
My dad still works on cars some what, he doesn't do any major repairs. This is because he doesn't keep the cars long enough for them to need any type of repair. But hanging around at the repair shop is really what got me into cars.
Am I the only here that hates cars?

Its in my blood.. I have ALWAYS been a tomboy, and me and my grandfather ( who raced Nascar when it was on a dirt track ) were always close because of this.. Between him and my dad ( what little time i spent with my dad and mom before a bad family history took place ) I was under a car from a week old. At 5 and 6 i was always trying to help with the cars and maintaining them or repairing them..At 9 I did my first oilchange and tune up on my grandfathers 83 Accord LX ( of course i had to have the bolts and stuff loosened before i could do anything ) by myself for the most part because my grandfather wanted me to know how to care for myself and my own car when I was old enough to get one. After that.. What got me into Imports and Speed more than I already was ( i kinda had a fancy for the pretty little show cars at the time), was a few friends and an Ex.. one had a nice show car that was fast too.. it was a 96 Eclipse GSX that got me hooked on speeding, that in combo with a friends 94 Rx7.. I took like a duck to water and was hooked instantly. Since then, I have made one change in my Driving preference, I went from DSM's to Subaru's , and from straight line racing to Rally .. thanks to TehGc.. I actually think I like Subies and rally More than I like my talon ( which I will NEVER sell ) and Drag Racing ( which im actually Pretty Decent at).. But Pretty much, it runs in my blood..
oh yeah, and I cant STAND dumb chicks who think cars are stupid either.. I call em CurbSquirrels and while they are Bitching and whining about their boyfriend spending money to fix his car up which is affecting their expensive clothing fetish, I wanna hit em over the head with a torque wrench and end their "misery" permanently while thinking they are stupid for Whinging and whining about having a guy who is into cars even tho they aren't. I mean the guy was into that before you came along , if you knew you weren't into it, WHY WASTE HIS TIME AND YOURS?! Those type really tick me off... end rant.

My gf always uses her own money for her things so no issues there. she doesn't even say anything about my spending habits on the car. The funny thing is, since the first day she met me, she knew I was obsessed with Supras. It was only until recently that she told me that she thought it was just any other car until she actually saw one and rode in one. Now she understands why some people are just very passionate about these cars :supz:

Ugh here i go... My dad was your typical metallica rocker, muscle car builder. I grew up at his garage at the time basically. always building little dumb things and watching him work on his cars ( anything from his vega, nova, and his nastiest car i can remember his corvette a 7.70 car) and he would let me drive and **** all the time at like age 10 up. At around age 13-14 he got locked up and i havent really seen him since excepts visits, but thats here nor there. So after that i became closer with my cousin who is 2 years older. Started off building go-ped at like age 15. Doing all kinds of crazy **** to them racing motors, jetted carbs, racing pipes, cai setups etc.. then i got my permit and my cousin was the first one with a car. he came around in a Laser and let me drive it. **** was nasty to me at the time. Got my first car, 92 Chevy caprice classic Police package with the 350 in it :). worked on it, had fun, took it down holestien like an ass. then it caught on fire:P. Then is when i got into imports. I bought my first honda. a 93 civic hatch with a b16. And i started comming out to car meets and meetin a bunch of great new people that i can count on and now consider good friends. and from there on i turned into a junkie when it came to performace. every dollar i earn went towards a new part. i started off going faster by getting and egay turbo kit. AFTER that i became a freakin boost addict. sighhh then my luck a drunk lady plowed me in the side and totalled the shell. so i bought an even lighter shell a CX, and me and my bestfriend redid the swap but better, all name brand stuff, wiring done better etc. etc... Where i stand as of now is every dollar is goign into my motor getting bult so i can up the boost and get into the 11's :) thanks for reading

Atleast she learned... and is accepting about it.. Some don't and refuse to learn or accept it.. and those would be the ones i cant stand ;)

I was always into cars when I was younger, hotwheels on tracks with loops and jumps, etc. I had one of two tier storage case for all my hot wheels and color changing ones, and I always liked racing videogames, Need For Speed 3 was great.
But it really started for me during the summer before 9th grade. My parents were looking for a new car to replace their crown vic and I went along and got hooked on mustangs for a couple months. The sales guy revved a GT V8 for me and the sound was great. I started looking at 60's mustangs, and eventually grew to want a Firebird trans am, both the newer ones and also the 68ish ones. At this point my tastes started to mature and I outgrew the newer entry level American sports cars (mustang, camaro, trans am). My taste became for the more expensive cars. C5 vettes have always been a soft spot of mine though, and I still love old school muscle.
Eventually I found out my Dad has 3 Supras in the past (1mkII, and two MKIII's both turbo), and I started looking up Supras. I found a picture of a MKIV supra and though it looked awesome. Then I found saw the pic on MKIV.com with the RSP supra with the targa off. Then came all the articles on MKIV.com (The ones about the black auto supra running 10's, and the comparos in C&D, R&T, MT, of the supra absolutely owning the competition and being called the new top dog). This was all back around 2000, before most people knew what the supra really was and what it could do.
I was impressed with the overall quality, reliability, stock performance, and the ability to absolutely obliterate most cars while handling 800whp on a stock block. Truly something most cars cant match. Found a Black NA MKIV back in 03 with 39,000 miles and convinced my dad to buy that when he was looking for a new car. I rocked that through highschool and took it to shows in college.
I graduate college last year and the first thing I did was got a loan and bought a Single turbo 6spd MKIV Supra. (Gotta love the comp sci degree)
To me, the appeal is in the power, freedom, and expression. I'm much more a supra specific enthusiast nowadays, but I can apreciate cars that are powerful, well balanced and have potential, as well as cars that are nice and cleanly modified. I cant stand obnoxious body modifications and ugly paintjobs just to get noticed. If you do the car the right way it will get noticed anyway.
I can't imaging going back to a non-turbo car. Theres something about the feeling of gaining more then 200rwhp over a 1,000rpm span that just doesn't get old

Dad has always worked on cars, owned a shop... also had a 911 that lifted the front end. Started around 10 or so , but always had dirtbikes and atvs around which keep me into the moving quick on something with a motor

Didn't really start with me when I was younger. My dad being a Honda Mechanic I kind of always knew that I'd probably enjoy working on cars one day. I liked watching racing and things like that, but was never really really crazy into cars. I guess you could call it a spawning interest.
Then I got my license and my first car, 1997 Civic EX. That's pretty much when my interest was gone and my obsession began. My dad from the beginning taught me that if I was going to do anything, I was going to have to do it right. So I started researching, next thing I knew I ran into a cheap JRSC for my car and slapped the bitch on. Took my dad and I about 2 months to get all the parts together and then 2 full days installing it. That first test drive really set everything in it's place. When I put the pedal to the ground and the car just took the hell off making that awesome blower sound. Next thing I knew, I turbocharged the car and well you all know the rest of that story.
Heck, I have a text message from a girl last night that says "So how's that car I love? It's weird, I normally couldn't care less about cars, but yours is different."
Sometimes, it just takes that one experience to make people understand.

I got pissed off at how much the dealership charged me to change a fuse for my cigarette lighter ($7). And once my dash light burned out on the Ion, I was dead-set on replacing it myself. Looked online, found car forums, read up on it, and got instantly hooked. I was also extremely frustrated with my job at the time and needed to find something that was a complete 180 from work. Call me nerdy, but I like learning new things... and there seemed to be this bit of mystery as to why auto techs could charge so much for presumably simple jobs.
Hardly anyone in my family is into cars. In fact, when I installed my springs, my parents panicked b/c the car was in pieces. :) Closest relative into automotive stuff was my uncle who worked at a car parts junkyard, but tried to teach me too young. (He's proud of me now!)
So I'm completely self taught, and even more shocking is that I've only been doing this for a little over a year.

Senior year of high school, I took the autotech class cause I did all the other classes required to graduate the year before. And I sat with my friends at lunch and all the argued about was which would win on a race track: the NSX or Supra.
Oh and the WRX came out and I fell in love with it.
My father is my main influence. He was always a Mopar Muscle guy... throughout my life he's had a few Dodge Darts (he's still got a 76 Dart Swinger sitting in his garage, which i'm waiting for him to realize he'll never do anything with and give to me)... from when I was pretty young, I'd help him work on whatever... his Darts, his Reliant, his PowerWagon, his Yamaha 650, etc. He's always been a do-it-yourself-er and I always seemed to have a hand in his projects...
When I was in 5th grade, I fell in love with old Air-Cooled VW's and started planning out what I would do with a Bug when I was finally old enough to own a car for myself... He was very supportive and took me to a lot of VW shows. My grandfather (more of a Studebaker/Model A type guy) would also come with, he just always appreciated cars from the early 70's and back (particularly the 30's and 40's)... helped me with a lot of stuff because he had worked in a VW dealership in the 70's....
Anyway, when I was old enough, my dad helped me locate my Ghia, and we did all the work together, according to my 15-year-old vision for the car...
My uncle is actually the one who got me more into the import scene when he bought his 2002 WRX and started modding it... I was always a pre-76 fan before that, but due to his help, I've pretty much come to appreciate pretty much everything, as long as it's done tastefully. I'll never be a fan of the guys who spend several thousand dollars to make their Civic or Integra or whatever look like something from The Fast and the Furious, but if it's modified in a clean way (I especially love subtlety, when the car is modified, but it's not blatently obvious), then I'm all about it.
I also have a sense of humor about it... If I see a guy with a minivan with 20's and a giant wing on it, i can laugh about it and not hate on the guy.
So anyway, that's pretty much the entire story. Thanks for wasting 3 minutes of your life reading it.

I'm another guy that got started by his dad. He had drag raced since the sport was in its infancy, started in the 60's at island dragway in NY with an orange '65 Mustang with a 289 in it, dropping the clutch from around 9k rpm. Once bracket racing came about, he moved to that, building a '67 mustang and winning atco class 2 several times over the years that he lived in NJ, won the ford meet at maple grove in that car as well, back when it was a race and not a mustang show :-/ That car went away in the early 90's and was replaced with the '93 thunderbird super street tube chassis car.
So, I grew up with the Ford Meet at maple grove being the highlight of my year, and then attending all the east coast nhra division one races as I got older. In between there, we were always working on the cars ourselves, and I raced a junior dragster from 2nd grade until I was 16.
So, yeah, by the time I could actually drive on the roads, I was pretty well hooked.

right around when i turned 16 i just developed an obsession with cars - out of nowhere. i didn't get it from my dad, or anyone in my family. i just remember when i was in highschool i'd spend my free time like, looking on ebay at all the cars i could afford locally. this was when i was 16, and my mom gave me a 95 chevy lumina... that was awesome. so since my car sucked i just tried to learn as much as i could about cars, engines, trying to guess track times and dyno numbers etc till i got pretty good at it. then two years later my dad gave me his 98 chrysler sebring lxi, and i guess going from that to a lumina i felt awesome - so i dumped like, 4 - 5k into it, only to trade it in for 2 grand after not having it for even a year.. kbb on it stock was 4.5k, but the economy's awesome, so i said the hell with it, traded it in for 2k and paid cash for my beautifulll evoo. now i just spend all my time detailing it, driving it and outlining mods for it. gimme till june/july n i'll be sitting just under 400awhp, i promise.

ive been taking things apart since i was 5. I owned close to a metric ton of legos (well not quite). I always took apart toys that i got, sometimes brand new. Parents really hated that. When I was 15 i found a lawnmower that didn't run. Spent over 300 dollars with briggs and stratton and got it runnning. New valves, piston. I cleaned and rebuilt the carb. That was my first "engine build". Getting a car was just the next step in line....96 subaru impreza. Got it because i loved the WRC and the WRX...my car was a far cry from either.
got it painted, made it look nice....sold the pos because it was slow and i was out of that phase. Been building cars and going fast ever since.

Gran Turismo 3...ive always liked cars, but after i started that game, i LOVED cars. since then ive also gotten my parents and many of my friends into cars too. My parents cars before my GT3 revelation were a subaru forester and a chrysler town and country. Now they are Dodge Magnum RT AWD, Volvo S80 T6 Exec, Porsche 911 Carrera (996), and an 04 WRX STi for me. my rents are currently considering, a lexus ISF, 09 Audi S4, G37 sedan (or the soon coming G hybrid), Lexus GS450h, Lotus Evora, newer 911, Maserati Granturismo (used), BMW M3, Nissan GTR (very doubtfull tho, not really my dad's thing). Also, we are now making it a habbit of goin to the Peable beach Concours d elegance every year. I got the car bug, and my fam did too, they just are lucky to have the $ to support it, LOL I love all performance cars, but i will say that i especially have the curse of aspiring to the exotics, I tell my friends whose dream cars are like a 300ZXTT or and E46 M3 that they are lucky, because they can pretty easily achieve that goal, me, i plan on owning a bunch of different cars in my life, in that never ending pursuit of Exotica...

mines simple, my grandfather liked old cars and used to tell me stories about his when he was young(grew up in the 20's&30's), then took me to car shows and told me make and models of diff cars. and from then on my love for cars got worse, it had gotton to the point that i could tell what car was what from 10 foot away just by the headlights shape.

Dad was alway into cars. He was also a Jet mechanic for the Navy for most of my life. I grew up working on his '72 VW Super Beetle and then his '66 Mustang.
Its funny that this thread just came back to the top considering me and my dad were working on my Z the other day and I started talking about how I will be his light b**ch no more. We have had the same orange drop light since I was born I swear and until I started working on my cars and friends cars I always had to hold that light for him.
Anyway back on topic. I got into the import scene when a young kid that was in my dads shop started coming around. This was around the time of the first "Fast and Furious" (go ahead flame on lol). I was young and thought the movie was cool and this guy had just started modding his Jetta. When we all started working on his Jetta I first started getting my itch for the import scene. Soon after, my 300z came into my possession. NA and smashed in on the passenger rear end the car came with a 2500 price tag.
Reading everything I could about cars after seeing the fast and the furious saved me from becoming one of those "drift whistle" kids. Working on cars made me an addict. Addiction and college made me broke lol.
Thats how my story goes.

for as long as anyone in my family can remember all the guys were into cars. My uncle had a nasty blown 57 chevy, my dad had all types from a Challenger T/A to his built 87 Formula with a 150 shot. So I grew up around cars, and spent my younger years out on the BLVD in the northeast in the late 80s watching him race. So I guess I just fell in line.... except I drive japanese lol

I was shown what Philly street racing was like back in 01-02 when the boulevard was still poppin and there were nightly meets of 250+ cars at the Interplex and upwards of 500 cars down at the McDonalds on Del. ave on fri/sat nights. My boy used to bring down his slow ass Neon with a K&N (lol) but we still had fun just cruisin around watching all the Supras and 300zx own ish up. Those were some good times. $hit has really fizzed out since then. Disappointing.

I grew up across from a auto shop and i was good friends with the owner so i always hungout and watched him work.
I was mostly into muscle cars when i was younger but my mom of all people got me into imports when she bought a brand new 94 3000gt vr4, loved that car! ever since then ive loved the imports!
first car i had was a 88 mazda 626 when i was 15, never got it running rite and never got my license till i was 17, drove it for 4 months then she blew up. 2nd i had an 85 ramcharger, i lifted it 4 inches, 33x12.5s, front locker, rear lsd, it was a badass machine but the engine had about 200k on it and started to give out so i sold it. Got my sentra which is now my winter beater and shortly after that i bought my first crx bone stock and that was my on going project till i wrecked it this july. Now i have my white crx and the sentra will be rockin till december when shes outta inspection.
definetly gotta blame my mom for my love of cars, she always took me to cars shows since i was about 2, and anytime i was feeling bad all she had to do was take for a drive and i felt better, haha!

My godfather had an ac cobra 427 jet (not replica)
My father's friend Bill raced a jaguar XKE

i dont really know i mean my dad was into them a little when i was growing up but never had any...i think my interest really sparked when i was like 15 my neighbor had a car that was pretty cool but i guess when i was in 7-11 and i saw a mag. with a civic hatch on there and i was amazed that such a bland car could be so great and out of the ordinary and i then found out what more imports were and i loved it all i dont like muscle cars that much because they dont have the same presence as imports do IMO. cars to me are mirror's that reflect the owner and what their about and my friends dont get it at all they had there parents pick out their car. they think every imports a ricer and whenever we driving around they always say "hey look its a skyline" to piss me off...ive come to realize that people who dont ever have intrests of cars never will and it sucks that they cant see what we see when we see a ****ty civic and we realize what it can be but they think its a rust bucket.

I always liked getting in fast and shiny cars when i was younger and my mom never really wanted me to do much with them because i was a girly girl and my clothes were so expensive lol. I got an acura rsx as my third car and decided that i was tired of seeing the "stock ones" all over. So one by one i started learning and doing different things. My mom eventually gave in considering it didnt cost much for "me" to do the work. My dad built me a ramp in the back and a shed to keep tools. My car is better than any purse, shoe or shirt I could buy because NO one has the exact same care as me.

when i was 14 my cousin gave me an 86' vw scirocco that needed a ton of love, he was gonna junk it but i said i wanted it.
i bought a chilton manual, read it, taught myself how to replace the water pump and timing belt and did it successfully the first try.
i fixed a few other things and sold the car before i even had my permit to buy another car that needed work
I haven't looked back since
