My wideband took a **** probably last night or this morning. I guess last night wasn't bad enough to notice, but today man, the car is just POURING fuel into the cylinders. Car is bucking, spewing black smoke, and can't easily go over 30mph.

This sucks.

Good thing I have a brand new AEM unit in my back seat. Guess I'll be installing that a bit later.

I am assuming you have O2 feedback on. You are going to have to calibrate or sync (can't think of a better term) your 02 sensor voltage with your ecu.

what management do you have? that's why i usually run open loop and disable o2 in my management after its tuned.

Very ****ty dude. Why did you run the WB post tune anyway? I've been told on many occasions their not good for long term use and foul up pretty quick under daily driving conditions.

Edit: or does your MS need the extra varience in voltage to run properly as opposed to the OEM? Never messed with MS.

My car was never fully tuned. It was on a baseline that I fabbed up to get it going. I've never been able to have someone else drive my car so I could tune it. No dyno shops I know of can tune an MS.

That, and most people I know run WB's at all times with no issues.

I got what I paid for. I paid very little for that 2B0 unit, and it was garbage when I got it. It fried up 5 hours after the first install, and I rebuilt it. It lasted for...what, like 2-3 years after the fact? Hoping the AEM wears better than that.

And this is based on the fact that no one really makes decent tuning stuff for Saturns. Even the AEM EMS that is used in other cars says to constantly run it. There's too many variations for temperature and whatnot to not run it.

I've run with a wideband 24/7 for 2 years. Drives me insane not to have one, best gauge on the market that you can buy for just about any car out there hands down.

OP, why is your megasquirt relying on the wideband for the tune? It should be the other way around, wideband should CONFIRM your tune, not BE your tune.

I've run with a wideband 24/7 for 2 years. Drives me insane not to have one, best gauge on the market that you can buy for just about any car out there hands down.

OP, why is your megasquirt relying on the wideband for the tune? It should be the other way around, wideband should CONFIRM your tune, not BE your tune.

I'm relying on the wideband TO tune.

Saturns are tuned stupid rich from the factory, but they still got 46+mpg.

Yeah, how do I get to the "disable wideband below ***rpm"? My boy did it for me, but he was using megatunix. My laptop is windows, so I'm stuck with regular megatune. (MS1v3 MSnS-e code older Q )

I need to play around with the coolant related air density settings some more, and play around with some more AF tables. I'm good on that stuff, but I can't do it while driving.

I hear good things about that system, the next big project i get that is my management of choice...or rewire an OBDI honda ecu if possible and go that route :-p it makes sense to run it constantly because from what i heard MS you get to declare your inputs, which is what draws me to it, and if you think about it...factory ecu uses O2 inputs majority of the time aka closed loop.

Correct.

The MS is a very very easy system to get used to. Don't bother reading the FAQ's or directions. They're confusing as all hell. Find someone that's well versed in it, and they'll get you what you need to know.

I have my idle set to open loop, and then just leaned out from the pulls that it was getting. The reason for that is when I had it set to closed loop, it couldn't compensate fast enough. It would idle slightly different, the MS would pull and pull and pull (cause the reading is slightly slower), then the WB would go lean, then it would add and add and add. Rinse, repeat. It would sound like a cammed car. It was annoying.

No I think I wasn't clear enough, as the sensors on a WB are made to be precise and not upto the task of 60k plus miles on a car like a stock narrow band is. Not saying they can't last longer just that they are built more for precision than durability.

I fully agree that it's a great tool to have in your car.

By this of course I mean that megasquirt is making adjustments based off of what the wideband is reading. Which is why, when it took a ****, so did your tune.

What you really should do is take a few hours, disable closed loop all together, and fine tune your driving to be in the AFRs that you want. THEN turn closed loop back on. This way the ECU will only need to make minor corrections if any at all and you will have better driveability and better gas mileage. Not to mention, if your O2 sensor takes another **** all you have to do is turn closed loop off again and you're back to not washing out your cylinders with $4.25/gal fuel. :wink:

datalog, then tune the car using the log. As long as you can read all the parameters right, you can do it that way.

#1 I can't help you with, lol.

#2 I do all the time. You just have to drive, datalog, and then park. Make adjustments from what your datalog says, then drive some more. Or, get a buddy behind the wheel and just have him toot along around town for you.:wink:

Ok you go to Basic settings - Exhaust gas settings. Then where it says "active above RPM", you change it to what you want the RPM to be when the EGO correction starts working.
