I think the 3rd gear grind was a common problem on '03 trannies, since it was the first year of production. '04+ trannies supposedly have the problem fixed (not sure in detail what they changed in '04 though specifically).

Actually 2003 to 2005 they went through alot of revisions on the trans, something like 10 different ones. The main problems were 3rd and 5th, there was people having problems all over my350z.

Sorry to hear about your dilema, you could always get the trans TSB and look at the parts break down, or shop manual for the repair.

the bracket i'm talking about is the "Control Lever Housing"...seems like the rear trans case is different because the holes don't line up...but the control lever housing fits perfectly on my last trans...

If you can get me VIN number for a 2003 and 2004 Z I can check FAST to an get you the part numbers. That should show you the part numbers and if there is a difference.

been there...nissan sayeth there was only one control lever housing ever on any 350z or 350z trans...so i'm wondering why is the rear trans case different or does it not fit this "universal" control lever housing...

I thought I would be able to tell with FAST, but I don't have 2004+ MY coverage.

Checking with the VINs may show that there are two different part numbers. Sometimes what the dealership says is not entirely true (unless you have a guy you really trust).

put the old tranny in, bring it to nissan. If its an 03 it should still be covered by the factory 6yr/70k miles powertrain warranty and they can swap it for free. The 3rd gear grind issue happens allllllllllllllll they time. People just get it swapped out for a new tranny for free, im going up tomorrow to get mine done on my g35.

turbo's and warranties are not so friendly with one another....but according to my local dealership they say my warranty expired in april...so its void x2...i went back to the dealer today to talk to an A-tech...they printed all sorts of schit out for me and it seems that the dates that the different transmissions were produced, so were different "control lever housings" or they have different part numbers...so i'm PRAYING that if i order the bracket thing that was produced the same time period that my trans was produced (32868-cd400)...i'll be good....

i just can't believe that a part that i didn't even know existed could make my life suck so bad...i hate pulling in the driveway with my moms van seeing my z up on jackstands with parts hanging from under it...

Stop driving like an asshole and your problem is solved =P

you know that's NOT an option so stfu...http://smiliesftw.com/x/poop.gif
