I went to grab a sandwich at wawa today. I noticed that tomatoes were missing from the options. I thought nothing of it, and ordered my sandwich. Then while standing in line, I heard some of the workers throwing out the premade sandwiches. I thought it was odd, but I bought my sandwich anyway.
Then when I got home I had a funny feeling and figured Id call up wawa and ask them what was up. Turns out that anything with tomatoes was pulled for possible E-Coli contamination. They said that no one at their store got sick, and that they just got an email from their main office telling them to pull the products just in case.
Even though my sandwich didn't have any tomatoes on it, I went back and got a refund. Better safe then sorry. All of their food gets made in the same prep are and if one thing is contaminated, then there is a good chance that all of it is. Figured you guys would want to know.
I ate a wawa sandwich today, I didn't get tomatoes though, my mom did on hers and she's fine.
come to think of it.. I did get the sh!ts.. hmm....

Yeah, I notice that. They were definitely trying to keep it on the down low. I mention that they should have a note posted or something, and they said they did somewhere by the register, but I never saw it. If they had something right at the computer where I place my order, I wouldnt have bought it in the fist place.

I dont think your going to get deathly sick or anything, but the fact that you got the ****s proves there was something not right with the food.

Steps to ensure that you don't get sick from buying prepared food.
1) Grow your own tomatoes, lettuce, pigs, flour, etc.
2) Make BLT.
If you're not going to eat at Wawa because they bought some bad tomatoes, don't go to the grocery store either. You might buy the same thing. Don't go out to eat anywhere either. Fast food - forget it. They buy tomatoes too.

I'm not one to say that WAWA has great hoagies because they don't, but when I work late its real convenient to stop there on the way home and pick something up. No longer will I do that though, the last 4 times I went there after 9 and ordered a hoagie (no tomatos) I was up and sick to my stomach all night. It only seems to happen when I get them at night...so I wonder if its the mayo or cheese being left out of the fridge all day. Something to think about

And probably because there was one remote case somewhere that had a problem. Most of the time they err on the side of caution, so they don't want to run around yelling the sky is falling when all they are doing is protecting the customer and thier ass.

I wont eat at taco bell because of that anymore. Always gave me the ****s and then when they had to close their stores for a few weeks because of the e-coli, i finally gave up on them.
I will eat wawa again, just once this issue is cleared up.

I ordered a hoagie at wawa this morning, and the guy took my roll into the back, pooped in it, and wrapped it up. He said that I was safer eating his poo than the meats and veggies that he should have put on my hoagie since they could have e-coli in them.
I agreed and took his poogie. Pretty damn tasty too.
But for real, I had a wawa hoagie today and I'm not dead yet.

They said it was a problem with their supplier in Florida.
It's not "Our" Supplier..It was something that had happened in Florida and Many Food Corporations around the States are following Suit with us...It's a Precautionary Procedure to prevent a possible threat to our Company

Nothing was contaminated at ANY wawa ANYWHERE...But I can see your concern...Sort of.
Yeah, I notice that. They were definitely trying to keep it on the down low. Nothing to Hide from our End...When we get recalls stores react to them accordingly and by the sounds of it you went in around the time Wawa sent out the message to each store...About 2 to 3 hours later they Posted a Sign for us to print and post in our stores stating why we didn have Tomatoes and why we had no pre made sandwiches.

Sorry to hear that but Maybe your Body doesnt like the food you give it...Or maybe it Is wawa...who Knows...I happen to love there food (I only eat toasted hoagies and Hot Hoagies though.)

i never get hoagies from there, they suck. But i do get meatball subs all the time, that is the only thing i can really count on being any good I LOVE our Meatballs...And you must not get good people making your Hoagies...if you came to my store you would Def enjoy a hoagie made by me :)

you guyz call it E-coli i call it "the sh*tz". but thats nothing a good mag and matches won't take care off...
Wawa rules....in fact I'm chewing on a 2' right now along with a 6 pack. Back in the day when me and my dad were installing Dish Network our route was planned around Wawa stores, they were the only store that carrid ketchup flavored chips. Plus the dinner pricing right now matches my cravings for tuna hoagies...

It was on the news today. Tomatoes in general are contaminated with E-coli but they don't know where.
http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/NEWS/2008/NEW01848.html
"FDA Warns Consumers Nationwide Not to Eat Certain Types of Raw Red Tomatoes
The Food and Drug Administration is expanding its warning to consumers nationwide that a salmonellosis outbreak has been linked to consumption of certain raw red plum, red Roma, and red round tomatoes, and products containing these raw, red tomatoes.
FDA recommends that consumers not eat raw red Roma, raw red plum, raw red round tomatoes, or products that contain these types of raw red tomatoes unless the tomatoes are from the sources listed below. If unsure of where tomatoes are grown or harvested, consumers are encouraged to contact the store where the tomato purchase was made. Consumers should continue to eat cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, and tomatoes sold with the vine still attached, or tomatoes grown at home.
On June 5, using traceback and other distribution pattern information, FDA published a list of states, territories, and countries where tomatoes are grown and harvested which have not been associated with this outbreak. This updated list includes: Arkansas, California, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Belgium, Canada, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Israel, Netherlands, and Puerto Rico. The list is available at www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/tomatoes.html#retailers. This list will be updated as more information becomes available.
FDA’s recommendation does not apply to the following tomatoes from any source: cherry, grape, and tomatoes sold with the vine still attached.
FDA recommends that retailers, restaurateurs, and food service operators not offer for sale and service raw red Roma, raw red plum, and raw red round tomatoes unless they are from the sources listed above. Cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, and tomatoes sold with the vine still attached, may continue to be offered from any source.
Since mid April, there have been 145 reported cases of salmonellosis caused by Salmonella Saintpaul nationwide, including at least 23 hospitalizations. States reporting illnesses linked to the outbreak include: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. Salmonella Saintpaul is an uncommon type of Salmonella.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections particularly in young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, the organism can get into the bloodstream and produce more severe illnesses. Consumers who have recently eaten raw tomatoes or foods containing raw tomatoes and are experiencing any of these symptoms should contact their health care provider. All Salmonella infections should be reported to state or local health authorities.
FDA recognizes that the source of the contaminated tomatoes may be limited to a single grower or packer or tomatoes from a specific geographic area. FDA also recognizes that there are many tomato crops across the country and in foreign countries that will be ready for harvest or will become ready in the coming months. In order to ensure that consumers can continue to enjoy tomatoes that are safe to eat, FDA is working diligently with the states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Indian Health Service, and various food industry trade associations to quickly determine the source of the tomatoes associated with the outbreak.
FDA is taking these actions while the agency continues to investigate this outbreak with state and federal partners. Such actions are a key component of FDA’s Food Protection Plan, a scientific and risk-based approach to strengthen and protect the nation’s food supply."

everything has pretty much pulled tomatoes off of their menu until the contamination is controlled.
McDonalds, Wendys, Numerous sit down restaurants have.
It's just a precaution right now. Until, that specific wawa posted a sign saying that someone who has purchased food from them and gotten sick, i wouldn't worry.
