basically i wanna know what you guys think instead.

I was at the intersection of skippack and butler pike in blue bell where the traffic lights chose to be out totally. there was a cop at the light, but not directing traffic. so we were all basically figuring out how to direct ourselves. i finally get up, and a porshe in front of me, is hesitating to go, but finally i go, i start up fast so i dont hit him... probably around 5k to 6k rpm because of how fast i had to get by so i didnt accidentally hit him. the cop was to the right of me, as i passed.

i drive about half a mile down the road, and then make a right onto norristown rd. (still no cop in sight) i then drive about a mile down norristown rd until im at the light where 5 points is (near wings field). im sitting at the light. all of a sudden i see this cop FLYING up to me with his lights on and everything....

light turns green and i start to drive, he pulls me over.
comes up to my car and asks me for my license and registration but doesnt say what i did. i give him my info and then ask 'what did you pull me over for?' he then looks at me and says 'you like to drive fast' i respond, 'you clocked me? how fast was i going?' he says again 'you like to drive fast'

he walks back to his car and then comes back and writes me a ticket for careless driving. i again ask 'what did i do wrong' he says again 'you like to drive fast' i then respond 'ill see you in court' he then laughs.

i take the ticket, and this is what it says, and i quote 'Defendant did drive in a careless manar by accelerating quickly in traffic and continuing to drive at a high rate of speed'

No info on the ticket about how fast, or anything. just checked off 'careless driving' and put a note on it'

you think i got anything on this guy?
also i dont know if this is the case, the cop who pulled me over, was a plymouth-whitemarsh cop, when the offense was in whitpain....

hope to hear what you guys think, should i fight it?

Out of curiousity, what do you think people here are going to say? Even if everyone that posts says you didn't deserve a ticket, does it make any difference? If you feel like you didn't deserve the ticket, take it to court and see what happens. If you want legal advice, talk to a lawyer. As far as I can see, there's nothing unusual about the situation...you accelerated recklessly through an intersection with no lights, as you put it, "so i didnt accidentally hit him" knowing a cop was sitting right there. Sounds like a simple case of bad judgment to me.

id fight it, you coul definatly win, or atleast get the ticked lowered. carless driving is points, so whatever you do go to court.

I didn't quite follow your story but it sounds like you launched your car to beat traffic (or something) which would be careless driving.

yeah I dunno man. any noise over "normal acceleration" in front of a cop is careless driving. fight it though, sounds to me like he wasn't very informative.

he doesnt need to clock you for reckless or careless driving. you think he gives a crap if you go to court? he gets paid for all of his court time, some departments even pay time and a half, even if the ticket gets tossed so you are just helping him out.
please say in court that you launched because the car infront of you was hestitate at a intersection with malfunctioning street lights. lol
next time dont run your mouth and be that guy that thinks he knows the law better then the cop. he isnt going to help you in court, will prolly talk to the judge before hand and make you out to be a douche.

if everything happened the way you said it did, you'll most likely get the ticket and points. cops hate arrogent people for the most part, well the ones i know. and for the acceleration through the intersection, as everyone said you thought you were trying to do a favor by getting through without hitting anyone but that does conclude for careless/wreckless driving and he had a good reason to stop you and give you the ticket. None the less, good luck in court and hope the cop doesn't remember the attitude you gave him.
