Before I start, I know there is another thread about PA emissions but I do not want to high jack his thread.

Anyways, I have a 89' Accord and I was wondering how does emissions go for PA? I've searched Google but it wasn't very descriptive. Is the car going to get the sniffer stuck in the tail pipe? Just in particular what things will be tested?

I am not worried about it not passing, but I just want to know so I can look over everything before I go. Where I am located now there aren't any type of emissions.

The car is OBDI so basically if the CEL isn't on and it passes safety inspection I think you are good to go. Keep the ECU happy on OBDI cars here and I don't know if they'll even throw a sniffer on it...

Well this car doesn't have an ECU nor a CEL. The car has a 2 barrel carb on it, and just about everything is vacuum operated. I have the EGR valve unplugged as the diaphragm has a leak, but it passed the sniffer in Texas with no problems at all.

I just went out to check my EGR valve as I thought it didn't hold vacuum. Well the stupid shuddering problem I had at 2k rpm went away right after I found out the valve is ok and I hooked it back up.

Stupid picky Hondas:mad:

Gonna have to run it on the dyno

Gonna have to run it on the dyno

I don't mind that. I am just curious because in Houston, the car ran on the dyno with the sniffer. Then they tested my fuel cap and gas tank to see if it holds pressure.

it depends what county you'll be getting it tested in. different rules for different counties in PA

For most counties in PA, any car before 1996 need to be put on the dyno with the sniffer. They will be tested for tailpipe emissions as well as the normal gas cap test.

I am not sure what county Lincoln University is in. Last time I had emissions done( 3-4 years), it passed with flying colors.

Ok lets get this straight. The rules are what is done under emissions depends on the area/county the car is registered under, not where you get it tested. There are some tests that require extra equipment (ie. sniffer) that some shops won't have. You can also use this calculator to determine exactly what test is needed.

worst case you get dyno sniffer, gas cap and visual. some counties just get visual and gas cap. make sure all vacuum hoses are hooked up correctly or you will fail the visual. actually, you SHOULD fail the visual. i always just did a quick sweep if i didnt think it was a set-up car.

Thanks for the tips. All of the vacuum lines are hooked up for sure or the car would run like pur ****.

Thanks for the link CiZiN, I will check into that.

That link under the " Visual Check" states that the technician may check or should check the OBD( ECU). Well, what if you do not have an ECU? I have a control box for the carb but it cannot throw any code, it doesn't even have an LED to blink to show any code.

my car ('95gst) registered in lancaster, only gets visual inspection. although when i had my '91 300zx, which was registered in lancaster, tested in west chester. it got a dyno/gas cap test. so take that as you will

well not saying everything is perfect but if you failed the dyno, you could have fought it. They also probably didn't even look, they just did and emissions test as they do all day long.

I am sure it is if equipped. That is usually how it goes.
