i always wanted to buy a car in Cali, fly out and drive it back stopping in cities along the way. it would be pretty fun, and you could get cars that you really can't get here in the condition they are in for climate reasons.

a nice fall or spring day so you can cruise windows down with a breeze. Philly to Toronto to visit the hockey hall of fame. Then stop off on the way home for a day or two of some nice fishing. I'd probably take my cousin since he's a big hockey fan like me. I'd bring my 500+ cd collection for plenty of good tunes (since my ipod got jacked by some scumbag), a camera, cooler with plenty of cold gatorade, pretzel nuggets and goldfish crackers for snacks. lol
I already drove straight through Philly to lake Buena Vista, Florida. That was a pretty fun, but long trip.

Since I have a lot of family in and around Toronto, I've done the Philly to Toronto route many times, just about every which way possible. IMO highways = mostly boring; but back roads thru upper PA and the NY Finger Lakes area is beautiful.
As for what car I'd take ...sure I'd like to take a Porsche Carrera GT or one of the Ferrari masterpieces like the Enzo, or a hot Lamborghini or any number of other fantastic cars; but aside from such fantasies I'll just take a car I already have, so it's my Supra; one passenger = a nice babe, one I could be sure would enjoy the trip and not be a drag, and take minimal luggage...buy what we need along the way.
I have friends who took a road trip a couple years ago up the East Coast using as many coastal roads as possible, all the way up into Nova Scotia ...that looks like one of the most beautiful road trip around this area and I'd like to do it one of these days.
But the one local dream road trip that's on top of my "must do" list is the Tail of the Dragon: http://www.tailofthedragon.com/ Here's a map of the road showing all the twists and turns:

Touring America in a Corevette. Touring Germany in a m5. Touring Japan in a skyline. Touring Italy area in a Ferrari. Sweden in a Volvo. You get the idea.

Makes me miss the suby just thinking about that...
Ferrari F40 or a BMW M5
id bring a friend or a chick who doesnt complain
i would drive down to miami and hit the 1a coastal highway
in spring weather, with 70-80 degrees during the day and 60-70 at night with clear skies and low humidity
then from there id drive out to vegas, then head to san diego blasting through the desert on the way, then id drive to LA, then SF, then take the coastal highway up to the coast and maybe stop at laguna seca, then driving home i would take as many states as possible back, or just fly back.
stuff id bring
ipod
satelite radio
valentine 1 radar detector
cb radio
scanners
a laptop
2 gps's
paper map
sunglasses
my dslr
a video camera would be sweet to film the whole ride
painters tape to decorate the car
and im sure theres more im missing but thats about it
