What Would You Do?

im sitting in my room with the back door open. its quiet out. i hear a noise, so i go to the door and look out. i see a guy crouched down on the second floor porch of the apartment behind mine trying to pry the sliding door open. never seen this guy before. i grab my phone and attempt to call 911, but i cant. everytime the phone rings once and then beeps and says "call was lost".

this goes on for a few minutes. i tried to call at least 10 times. then a car drives by, headlights shine on me and he sees me and takes off. i have no house phone, just my cell. now, mind you, theres a lot of shady activity that goes on between 3 or 4 apartments out back. this is one of them. so, obviously, im not too concerned with one asshole breaking into another assholes apartment, so im not going to get involved with that.

but, there have been a lot of burglaries in my neighborhood in recent months. i got a good look at the guy, so i can give a description. the 2 biggest problems im having right now:

1. what happens when its a real emergency and my phone doesnt want to call 911?
2. what if im not home when this guy comes back and my house gets broken into?

im extremely pissed at verizon right now.

problem is they're all thugs. i caught one of them looking in my car last summer and almost busted his jaw. next day he came back with 5 people. im not scared of them. in fact, i would LOVE to catch one trying to break into my house or cars. but im not the type to fight anyone over anything until i have to. so i just try to keep to myself. but i will defend whats rightfully mine. i work hard for my ****.

Even just a $20 A month plan for a house line would suffice to ensure you are able to call 911 in an emergency. IT also saves on time in the event you cant talk but can dial.. They know the address the # is listed to and can arrive fast compared to the lengths to track a cellphone down.. ask for the most basic of basic for a house phone.. If you need it, its there and wont drop the call. Never Skimp on safety.

As far as The "protection" ideas go.. Just remember that whichever route you take, our Justice system is so effed up that injuring a criminal for breaking into your house or car, or even if he slips and falls he can sue you as well as press charges.

as for what i would of done, i would of threw something at him and then hid, while then calling 911. if my phone didnt work because verizon tends to blow, i would call up verizon and bitch immediately and tell them to fix the signal in my area. if they didnt and anything happened i would hold them responsible. if you are in an area where you should have service and dont they should fix it.

if u find a beater cell phone, im pretty sure u can dial 911 without a plan, just for back up, just always have it on with the charger plugged in, and called verizon and tell them your situation

The middle east would then hear of this from the mexican embassy and realize the error of their ways and call off the jihad on our asses.

honestly if some dude breaks into my house and i feel threaten then yea, **** him. but i know what the law says and that i have to get away, well i also have the right to protect my home. if he is unarmed and i know he doesnt have **** on him, he will get a baseball bat upside the dome and that wont be fun for him because i get the bat around pretty damn quick. if i cant tell if he is unarmed, ill fire a warning shot (if there is time), if he keeps coming then he will get shot.

but to answer your question better, if you feel threatened and cant get away like he has you cornered and you fear for your life, then yes shoot him before he has a chance to kill you.

well theres no quiet way to open my screendoor, so i just opened it and he kinda hid behind the wall where i couldnt see him.

I would invest in some serious home safety, quality dead-bolts/doors, properly functioning window locks, personal safes for the irreplaceables, etc. and the gun. If you feel you are a competant shot then dont shoot to kill, shoot to injure. I imagine its much easier to win a self-defense case where the person didnt die. Plus, what kind of a person can actually do any damage with a round in a knee/hip/elbow, or stomach. From what i hear the stomach hurts a whole lot but is a slow death, usually due to loss of blood.
